  1. Lexus doesn't own dealerships and they don't recieve profit from maintenance or repair work. Anyways I bought a $40,000 automobile and the manufacturer specifically says not to extend the oil change interval when using synthetic. So...I follow the manufacturer's reccomendation. Why should I trust you? I'll trust the manufacturer of my vehicle. To me, its not worth the chance of having issues with warranty work, or explaining to a prospective buyer why they should trust me and why I ignored the factory maintenance schedule when I go to sell the car.
  2. Thats fine as long as you realize that you cannot complain, or opine about or on what happens in this country for the next decade at least because you did not do your civic duty and cast your vote. You don't have to vote for either of them, there are several third party candidates that are going to be on the ballot. Do some research...maybe you want to vote for one of them. They're not the only race thats being decided this election day either. Don't just waste your right and responsibility to vote because you don't care for the candidates.
  3. He's kidding JC lol
  4. Seriously, I bet they wish they'd have held off on the project now lol
  5. Are you saying that fuel injection service is not needed at 30K (or any time for that matter), or that it is a rip-off, or what? Yes to all. Modern gasolines have a lot of detergents in them that keep the injection system clean, if you use quality fuel then I don't see how the fuel injection service would ever be neccisary. Lexus doesn't reccomend it in its maintenance schedule...if it was neccisary they would have. If you run regular, I might do it, but even then still probably not.
  6. And like I said, as someone who has detailed a lot of cars, the single stage black Lexus paint comes out so well after a detail...
  7. My headunit is OEM, I have the OEM Mark Levinson/Nav unit. I use the standard Sirius antenna. Mine is actually installed inside on the rear parcel shelf next to the brake light. The wireless FM modulators don't work well if you aren't in an area with no or few FM stations.
  8. Looks great, congrats! A word of caution. These tires aren't appropriate for most...if any Lexus sedans. They are T rated and don't come any higher than that, which is not enough of a speed rating to for sure maintain the driving dynamic of Lexus sedans that come equipped with V rated tires. Perfect for the Civic, etc, but not right for a Lexus, BMW, etc.
  9. I looked at them before I just recently got tires and was intrigued. Their prices weren't nearly as good as TireRack, but very comparable to other local places. Only issue is they can't do an alignment, I always align my cars when I have new tires put on so I'd have to go to a shop anyways.
  10. Happy Birthday!
  11. That vehicle is probably 3 times the cost of an IS...not a fair comparison there...
  12. People have done that and they've been given differing answers. What I'm telling you is a fact...every black Lexus I have ever detailed, running a whole gambit of years have been single stage. Its easy to tell because when you pull the buffer pad off the paint...the pad is black from transferred paint. Do you think I'm lying?
  13. Nobody's going to steal your XM antenna... You can hardwire the FM modulator in with an FM switchbox into the antenna jack behind the radio. This is how mine was set up before I had the Vaistech unit. No static this way because while the XM tuner is on the FM reception from the FM antenna is totally shut off.
  14. This is how most stock temp gauges are...
  15. I don't think they will fit. I read somewhere something about the LS460s having a weird hub design that made aftermarket wheels a difficulty. If thats true, I don't think they'd fit on a '97...
  16. The fuel injection cleaning is precisely the kind of cash cow dealer thing you want to make sure is NOT included in the service.
  17. Personally? I don't want the dealer's porter to drive my car 200 miles round trip.
  18. I don't know if that was just people confused or if Lexus really did clearcoat some black for a while. I had heard reports from some detailers that did some black Lexus vehicles in that period that were clearcoated, but I have seen firsthand current model Lexus black cars that are definately, unquestionably unclearcoated single stage. So...I dunno. *I* have never detailed a black Lexus that had a clearcoat. The Meg's paint cleaner is very mild...you need something more abrasive. I'm 99% certain your IS is single stage.
  19. XM and Sirius as we know them are going to go away eventually. They have just come out with new tuners that can get Sirius AND XM programming. If you want to recieve Sirius programming you will need one of those new tuners because XM doesn't have enough bandwidth to broadcast both. I'm sure Lexus is deveoping a tuner that can get both which is what they're saying. If you don't care about ever getting Sirius broadcasts too by all means get the XM tuner, but eventually to get all the content available from SiriusXM you will need a tuner able to recieve both.
  20. I disagree. Now is the time to buy one of these cars if you can. The market is REALLY soft, people aren't buying anything so if you've made the decision to buy, and you comfortably can, you shoud do it now. If my business weren't so tied up with all this mess I would pull the trigger on a nice 06 LS430 right now. They're a steal. As for the cupholders, they're okay.
  21. No, the OEM Lexus kit will not work. I have a Sirius kit (a standard plug and play kit) installed ib the armrest of my car and connected via an AUX-in from www.vaistech.com I have the iPod kit so I can control the iPod through the car's audio controls, but because of that I cannot control the Sirius tuner with the car's audio system, I have to open up the armrest to do that. BUT, if you don't care about the iPod they do have kits that will control the XM/Sirius directly.
  22. I really don't, I've heard the 3M is the best. Used to be the 3M had a lot of orange peel but the new film doesn't. Most people don't know what brand film they have...
  23. I would hire a lawyer honestly...
  24. Sorry about your loss! Luckily you're okay, cars can be replaced...people cannot. The 2000 is visually identical to the 1998 and 1999. The only difference is if it has the platinum edition package then there is a special color, one tone paint, special wheels and black pearl badges, special wood inside and a textured leather trim. The 99-00 also has daytime running lights, the 98 does not. Any visual difference you're seeing is in your head ;)
