  1. All the Lexus in Korea is relatively new as they started importing 3 years ago. They are very expensive because of import tariff. LS430 costs $95000, ES330 $48000, GS300 $59000, prices out the door including tax, fully loaded. For some reason the GS400 is not available, even though V-12 Merc Benz and Lamborghinis are. They are seldomly seen in Seoul, but if you go to the rich neighborhoods, you see them pretty often along with S-class Mercedes and 745Li BMWs. In Singapore, LS costs $200,000!
  2. NO it will not, it may look same but airbag module is totally different - 98+ has new-generation airbag system.
  3. You mean BMW 635 CSi, not MB (Merc Benz)?
  4. 95 to say the least! I have a 95 and even that model is starting to look dated. The 90-94 alreday looks oudated. Doesn't mean that they're bad, I mean heck a 1990 will last to 2050, it's just that I personally like having the newer stuff for anything - from clothes, computers to plasma TVs.
  5. What model year did they first incorporate the auto-shut doors? First time I've ever heard of it, sounds damn cool
  6. My 95 LS400 tranny feels very harsh when shifting 2nd to 3rd gear. It feels like its having a spasm and doesnt feel smooth like Lexus should be. I recently had a complete flush with Toyota type 4 from Brakes Plus. The problem was even worse before the flush. Otherwise the car runs excellent with 110K miles. What could be the culprit of this problem? Do I need a new tranny? Would adding some liquids like dura-lube or stuff from Lucas to tranny help?
  7. It is real wood, albeit a very thin layer veneered onto plastic
  8. Depends on what kind of caprice. I had a 1995 model, cop-car with a Vette LT1 350 motor. It was conservatively rated at 260 hp and 345 lb-ft torque. -Off the line it would definitely smoke ANY lexus - even 300hp 3200-pound SC430. -Midrange, 50-90 mph, probably close -Top end, 100+ mph the Lexus would be better. Thats when the aluminum 32-valve V-8 suddenly wakes up at 4000+ rpm and storms like hell to 6250 rpm. Also its helluva lot more stable, confident, smooth at those ultra sonic velocities. You could buy those cop caprices at auction for like $1500 - good cars to have around just for fun or as a back up car
  9. The newer motors are just as strong and durable as the old ones. The Merc is a better status symbol. The Lexus is a better car.
  10. 1) Look how ugly they are. Big, boxy, and frumpy, totally has that go-go 80s look of excess, too-much, and overkill. My 95 Lexus looks much nicer. 2) I hate the way they make the driver look like he's trying way too hard to LOOK like he's rich. Lexus doesnt do that. Lex is understated elegance, no gaudiness. 3) They are extremely expensive to service and horribly complicated for the average person to work on them in the garage. They are extremely well-engineered, but will have problems with high miles. The timing chain must be replaced (will destroy the engine if it breaks), its a few grand to do so, it always starts leaking oil near the chain cover. Otherwise engine and tranny are super strong. The A/C system is known for problems, esp. freon leaks and the compressor. A few grand to fix those too. Also known for motor failures for power seats, windows etc.
  11. I have the same problem with my 95 LS400. The right chan went out with low distorted volume, it got worse until right chan ceased completely. I replaced the amp, it did not help. I replaced the Nak headunit with a used one and it fixed the problem. It still does it sometimes, maybe 2% of the time. Banging the dash will often restore the sound. If that doesnt work, I crank up the vol all the way and turn balance knob to the right chan. It will all of the sudden clear up and sound is restored.
  12. I had the same problem - a channel went out on the Nak. It's not always the amp, it could be the headunit. I replaced the amp and it made no difference, so I replaced the headunit with a used unit. I would not send anything to carstereohelp, they dont know what theyre doing. They had my Nak unit for a month and they could not fix it. I finally told them to send it back.
  13. I really don't think it's necessary. The Lexus dealer is going to pressure you into replacing all sorts parts if they are not like brand new. Don't be surprised if they tell you the car needs $7000 worth of work. Definitely check if the t-belt has been replaced (most important) Other things you can do it yourself, like the oil, trans fluid, engine sound, etc. I bought mine with 100k, not one problem in 10k miles, except the Nakamichi headunit went out (bought used at junkyard for $150). I bought the car late at night, didnt even bother checking it, just drove a few feet and deceided to buy it.
  14. Someone here can do Carfax checks for free?
  15. Who told you 98 has better headlights and more horesepower than 99? They look the same with or without HIDs and both have 290 hp
  16. Youre lawsuit is so frivolous its beyond belief. You are going to lose against Toyota, the world's #2 automaker. Also they have dream team of lawyers that will annhiliate your legal ramification.
  17. exterior dimesions are exactly the same, gen 2 has wheelbase lengthened by 1.4 inches, has 2.6 inches extra leg room in rear. I think its a much better car than gen 1, without all the problems of dash lights, AC lcd going out all the time, they are now quite affordable
  18. I'd go for $7000 - the extra money spent repairing the car does not increase the value of the it because the bluebook assumes that the car is free of all those problems. I've seen 95+ now going for about $9000, they dont have as much problems with ps pump, dash lights going out etc
  19. My 95LS Nak stereo had the right chan. cease. 3 shops attempted to fix and all failed. Even carstereohelp.com , a very well known shop, couldnt fix it after a month. I couldnt find a used unit anywhere, searched ebay for 2 mo. Looked up under car-part.com and it gave me 20 hits, lowest selling for $150, avg selling for $350. I ordered the cheapest one from m&m auto salvage in VA and it works perf. Seems like nobody in world can fix these
  20. also what you can is to do heat your pants in the dryer or oven to warm your buns, or place those hot packs on the seats!
  21. A local shop quoted me $600 to change timing belt, water pump, idler, tensioner, plus additional for bearings only if it needs it. Is that a good price? I know its a good shop - I took my FJ60 Toy Landcruiser (pain in a$$ to work on)there for years and they did perfect work
  22. you dont have to be tall to enjoy a larger car like LS...I'm only tick under six feet and even I feel cramped in a ES... as for Tauri, I've seen many V-8 Lincoln Towncars go 400,000+ miles with proper maintenance
