  1. Sounds like you might have bad gas or water in the tank. If you can purge the tank and put fresh gas in, and a fuel detergent with a water remover in it. See if that clears it up.
  2. Yeah, that's a tough call. Used comes with the question of how used? and new comes with the big price tag. If your gonna use keep the car for a long time I would look into used parts and find one yourself that you are comfortable with. Rather than some guy how doesn't care ordering it as cheap as they can to get some profit margin. Then you might be able to look at the car it's coming out of and how much mileage it has. Maybe even get certified or warrenteed rebuilt parts? But at the very least I would try to get the part myself.
  3. A couple ideas, one, replace the thermastat and make sure it's not leaking from around there. Second is to check the temp gauge sensor. Make sure your not getting a false reading. Also, check the over flow container. Make sure your not leaking from the bottom of it. Sometimes over time they can get brittle and crack. Even with the 90 degree turn it should be ok. when the motor gets up to temp, the hoses soften up and expand. And sometimes the residue from rad fluid can last awhile. So the smell might be around for a little bit from previous leak being blown all over the motor.

  12. Well, I don't know what your background is, I mean mechanic, welder, engineer or what. The 4GR-FSE your looking at with 9k miles on it? 4k for the motor, and you'll need the trannyand ECU. The issue isn't about how much space you have in the engine compartment. this issue is where the motor mounts are located in relationship to the drivetrain lining up. For example, if the motor you looking at putting into the car is smaller than the stock motor, but in order to line up the tranny to the motor you have to raise the motor mounts and narrow them, the top of the motor could still stick right thru the hood. Your going to have to do alot measureing and research before you can just shove any motor in your car. I will say that anything is possible though. If you have the expertise at welding and understand the dynamic torque that is exerted on the welds and metals, and you have the mechanical experience to change over all the neccassary issues, then you can put a chevy 350 small block in there if you want. But then it raises the question, if you do in fact have all that, then why not buy an engine block already made to fit, and then build your own motor the way you want it ( Better fuel mileage, or more hp) and then put it in. Dollars to sense should come out ahead.
  13. Have you already done the engine bay measurments and motor mounts? Not to mention your gonna need the transmission, and probably need to custom make a drive shaft. And isn't the 2GR-FE designed for front wheel drive, along with the tranny? That sounds like an interesting conversion, expensive also. Not to mention the motors you have listed are big $$$$$!!! I would think for a 92, you might consider the 2JZGTE aluminum block Supra motor. Inline 6 that produces more than enouph HP and no VVTi. You'll still need the rest of the drive train, and some custom work.

  16. hahaha ohh yes, we even built a bed in the back of ours! mine didn't have a radio either, and the A/C was busted... We drove from california to pheonix, AZ in 117 degree summer weather for 7 hours.. probably one of the longest days of my life. it felt colder to keep the windows up haha. We managed to fit 6 people and their personal belongings, a bed, and a full band's worth of equipment (drums, guitar cabinets, heads, you name it) in that beast and still have room for a cigarette lighter TV! and thanks smooth! yeah i hear that a lot with the vocals :) 6 people in a van thru 117 degree heat? Now that is dedication without reservation!!!!! Just be glad the van didn't break down!!!! I'm not a musician, nor do I play one on tv, but I am an avid music lover. I'm really diggin finger elevens "paralyzer" right now, and one of my all time favs is stabbing westward " save yourself ", of course I'm old school, Metallica will allways rule.
  17. That's not a stupid question. Here's a list off the top of my head, AEM- EMS ( This is the one I'm using.) www.aempower.com HKS- F-CON V PRO www.hksusa.com MoTec- MLS/M2R www.motec.com Unichip GP Series www.unichip.us Unichip-Q series www.unichip.us Power Enterprise- CAMCOM CC101 www.powerenterpriseusa.net GReddy- E-MANAGE www.greddy.com Spectre - EMS PRO www.spectreperformance.com A'PEXI- POWER FC www.apexi-usa.com Hydra EMS-Nemesis Management www.hydra-ems.com A'PEXI - AFC NEO www.apexi-usa.com And then there is Jet. If you can't find a tuner, and your not even close to understanding how to tune, then you can call 877-808-3600, or go to www.jetchip.com You tell them what year, size motor and any modifications you have done, like exhaust and CAI. They will send you a package that will give you step by step info on how to remove the ECU. You put that into an overnight UPS baox they provide and you ship it to them. They get it the next day and reprogram it for you, then overnight it back to you. You reinstall it and there you go. This is probably the most cost effective way to go also.

  19. haha yeah i'm a drummer. i'm not playing in a band right now but i used to play in this metal band until about a year ago: www.myspace.com/theymurderedmiracles nothing major, just some mid-west/west touring and good times! I love chevy vans. I was looking at a bigass dark green one but I got mine for $600 at a police auction instead! No real engine problems either, just a low idle speed and a corroded battery. and some prison tags on the inside haha Very cool!! I went to the site, Great music!! Singer not so much to honest. But the music was tight. I'll post a pic of the beast next week. LOL!!! Dude, that's too funny. That's where I got mine. The Seminole county Sherrif's auction. It was a CSI supply cargo van!!! I paid 1300 for mine though, sounds like you got a better deal. It has 193,000 miles on it now. Runs good. Needs a tune up. but that's all. It didn't even have a radio in it when I got it. Blows cold a/c. To give you an idea of how big this thing is, from the back of the driver seat to the rear doors is just over 10 feet !!!!!!!
  20. and yo heyoceanfloor, you played or play in a band? what instrument?
