  1. Last fill up was 74.25 @ 19 gallons @ 3.92 a gallon in chicago. I get about 18-19mpg combined city/highway (halfway is only about 5-7 miles per day)
  2. Hi I need to replace a few of the interior light bulbs in my 96 LS and i remember reading a thread either on here (maybe clublexus but pretty sure it was here) that said i can get the bulbs from radio shack versus the dealer bending me over. Can someone link me to that thread and/or just give me the part numbers? thanks a lot
  3. My girlfriend's saturn had the thermo stuck open, wouldn't get above the first white line.
  4. Coolant temp sensor could be bad or you might need a new thermostat (stuck open).
  5. You have to understand that not everyone on forums are here to help, others register and post spam or attach things and try to create problems. It was just strange that your first post was an attachment and a compressed zipped file. I'll download it and see what happens and report back.
  6. Strange first post, i'd be careful of downloading a zipped 1 from someone where this is his first post.
  7. Honestly, try using a Magic Eraser. Go slow and see if it comes out. I spilled a pretty big glass of wine on my friend's carpet in her apt. We "dabbed" it up as much as we could and then used a magic eraser on the rest of it. You'll never know where i spilled it ;)
  8. Only problem with synthetic on a high mileage motor is whether or not it will leak as previous poster has said. Try and see if you get any leaks. If you do, i'd just use normal oil.
  9. I almost like the look of the 05 avalon better than the 05 430. It almost seems like Lexus went in reverse from the 1st/2nd gen LS to the 430s, seems to be more boxier. Avalon looks smoother.
  10. No offense to the previous poster but STI owners tend to be car enthusiasts who know how to drive so i wouldn't look for him to be missing gears or smoking the tires off the line.
  11. Just take out the spark plug in #1 and rotate the crank until you hear the big WHOOOSH. that's the compression stroke.
  12. 2006 IS350 vs 2006 WRX STI is gonna = STI beating you no matter what you do UNLESS they really don't know how to drive stick. I looked it up for you and real world 1/4 times for your IS is in the 13.8-14.2 range based on driver abilitiy and the STI is more in the 13.3-13.6 range THAT'S A LOT. So hope that he doesn't know how to drive and you might have a chance :)
  13. There really is no "safe level" of boost. you just need to find out how much boost you can run with 93 octane for the compression level your motor has and make sure it's tuned rich enough for the occasion bad tank of gas you will get from the pump. No matter how much "safe boost" you have it only takes a little bit of detonation for the "boom."
  14. This is a 10.8:1 compression motor on pump gas and you guys/girls don't want to spend the extra .20 for premium? I hope you like detonation lol, make sure that your warranty is good too.
  15. So what did you do to hook it up to your factory system? I am currently researching what i need to do to get the D3 to work with my 96ls400 system. thanks
  16. I truely wish that Lexus would be more relaxed about this as well. however, i can absolutely and totally understand their decision. Lexus could have install a passenger sensor or something. but why? honestly place yourself in their shoes. why would you spend more $$ and effort toward this when you don't have to. by going the extra mile, you are presenting more points of failure and potentially more litigations. it just isn't worth it. disclaimer screen and telling the owners not to cut wires "may" be enough to cover their butts. but if they can show the court that they went as far as voiding the warranty in order to stop people from doing the mod would be gigantic plus for them in litigation. and it doesn't even cost them a penny to do it. it's simple economics. it just make sense for them NOT to do this. i do think it's shame that we can't do more about this. but i absolutely can't fault them at all. i would have done the same thing. besides, in my opinion, Lexus' nav still is one of the better ones (factory or aftermarket) out there. i've had nav systems from bimmer, merc, porsche, garmin and lexus. i'd rate lex's system close to the top. D.J. . ← ← A kind reply to DJ: :) I understand your point fully; do everything you can to avoid litigation! The McDonald Corporation (golden arches) places a warning on all their coffee cups that the beverage is hot. This warning was placed there because of a multimillion dollar suit that was won by a person that ordered coffee, drove away and spilled the coffee in their lap; they did burned some very delicate areas! To extend the lunacy of this suit, I wonder why car makers put cup holders in their cars, since they have lead me to believe that my hot coffee will be safe in their holder and will not fall in my lap...and why not put govenors on our cars so we cannot exceed speed limits or require a test on the owners manual before we can drive our cars. Better still put a lawyer in the back seat to protect their interests...All Rediculous! I think that we expect too much from others to take care of us. There is something called personal responsibility that adults should understand. We should know there are hazzards out there and we should take care of ourselves. Not look to somebody else to do it, or the real catchall: the government. Yes, I do object to that safety warning and I would like to make changes to MY automobile without the manufacturer penalizing me. I apologize for this dissertation, I'm an old guy that been around for 77 years and have seen progress impeded by rediculous product liability litigation and frivioulous suits.:cries: Sorry to bring this back from the dead (i was searching "navigation" and was reading this) BUT the person did not win the suit because the coffee was simply "too hot" and being frivilous. They won the suit because McDonalds was serving coffee KNOWINGLY TOO HOT that if exposed to human skin would produce 3RD DEGREE BURNS UPON CONTACT. Now why were they doing this? Because most people bought the coffee and really didn't begin to drink it until they got to work, by then it was "cold" by most coffee drinkers standards. So they began to serve it too hot and it worked, for a while until it spilled and did the damage it did to the plantiff. McDonalds was penalized accordingly for this in my opinion. How would you have like to have happened to you? Now i'm no lawyer but i do believe this was a good suit. Sorry for the outburst, but this case always hit home with me when i learned the REAL facts about it at business school. Thanks
  17. I'm going to do this to my 96 LS400 eventually, it's exactly what i want. Awesome pics.
  18. Well oh well, i'll learn to live. Car runs great and recently had the 90k service done and brakes when i bought it. I'm loving it.
  19. Awesome, now when you say manual are you talking about the service manual or the actual manual with the car? I have the one that came with the car and did read through it but didn't see anything like that.
  20. Just a couple things i have questions on because i don't know if the car has these features or not: 1) Does the car have automatic locking doors once you reach a certain operating speed? 2) If the answer to #1 above is no, can you make that happen? 3) When you are finished driving the vehicle and you go to open the door, when the doors are LOCKED i noticed that you CANNOT open the door unless you actually unlock them. Is that normal? I mean, my old beater had that option LOL. 4) Are there any cool secret hidden features that i don't know about the car. Thanks for any help
  21. Buy off ebay from a dealer, they always advertise their ebay prices and/or cars.com price much lower than what they are advertising it at the actual dealership.
  22. Thank you for all the kind responses, also that $1200 includes the water pump. Thank you.
