In South Florida, with the rapidly expanding population, it is important to us to update our discs annually. The disc data is up to 2 years old when you receive it. So your 2006 disc has 2004 data. Alot has happened in 1 year. Addresses. maps, poi and others. Plus the increase in new exits on the interstates and turnpike are helpful for planning new routes when travelling on trips. Dealer is charging you too much for the disc. Installation is simply ejecting the old disc and installing a new one, just like a music cd. My two cents

Version 7.1 in Gen 3 isn't any different to me , but the maps and poi's are much improved, new roads and hotels that weren't in the previous. Version 7.1 in Gen 5 has eliminated the "I agree" screen and the maps and poi's are much improved, new roads and hotels that weren't in the previous. 'my two cents'

What's odd is that I can go to Mapquest.com and it will direct me to my front door with no problem. Do they utilize the same data as GPS? I don't know if they do or not. You are from Weeki Watchee, I drove by those signs going to and from FSU on Highway 27, 28 years ago

GPS gives your computer its' current location, but without updated map data it doesn't know whether or not there is a road there. I fly with GPS, but I use Jeppview to land and takeoff.
