  1. thanks Jim..I checked with a local shop that specializes in NAVS and they said that the problem is that the disk is not formatted correctly. Apparently the guy that sold it to me tried to reformat at it on the internet and this is the result...no bueno...the same shop said my ECU may be bad because my old disk (which by the way I found!!) said "check hard disk"...this has become such a pain...
  2. started it this morning and still same error "cold for disk"...any suggestions Dc and 1990LS? I am on the verge of just giving up the Navi entirely..
  3. GRRR!! Installed it but when I turned on the car I get a "cold for disk" message...what the heck does That mean???
  4. I was able to finally buy a navigation hard disk from a 1999 Lexus GS300. Much to my chagrin (and to my ignorance) it appears the disk wont fit in my ECU!!! the "disk" seems to be about a half inch wider than the slot. am i missing something? I thought I just slipped in the slot and it was plug and play. Do I need to remove the ECU and take the lid off the ECU? my car is a 1998 so I figured the disk was the same as the 1999. I have attached 3 pictures to illustrate my predicament. Thanks in advance as always.
  5. thanks for the help guys..the prob with Ebay is that all those nutcases want 1k for a new ECU which I am not willing to pay..I will ask around at Club Lexus. As for the software, there will be no more updates since the drive is absolete and cannot hold any more gigs of info..that is per the dealer...
  6. I went by the dealer today and they confirmed that the disk was missing. Apparently its a pretty common part that is stolen since it costs 600 bucks to replace. They said the hard drive is seperate from the disk since the disk just plugs in and out. Apparently its pretty easy to just unplug the disk and walk away. So I am back to square one. I placed an ad on craigslist so hopefully I can luck out on that...Ebay hasnt had one in a long time...
  7. I am confused, the entire computer is bolted down and there is a slot where the "wafer disk" is inserted (pin connection) Why would the drive be destroyed??? According to Sewell Lexus its just plug and play!
  8. Thanks for everyone's feedback, I always say the "disk" but what I mean to say is wafer shaped hard disk. Apparently it was hoisted from my car shortly after I bought it and took it to 2-3 body shops for estimates (bought it from salvage auction). I never stopped to check if the GPS worked after every stop and after I found out it was too late to accurately pinpoint the shop that did it. I have scoured and made phone calls but I have been unable to find someone willing to sell me their hard disk. I didnt think it would be hard to find but it has proven otherwise. If anyone has one lying around I will gladly buy it.
  9. I'll see what I can come up with for you. ;) thanks!! very much appreciated!
  10. Hi Fellow Lexus owners, I have a 1998 Lexus GS 300 and unfortunately my wafer shaped hard disk to my navigation system was stolen awhile back. The disk drive is still in place but no disk!! The dealer will sell me a disk but wants the my old core or there is a hefty charge. Do you know where i can get just the disk to make the navigation complete? I know the last update was in 2004 but I still want to have it just in case. I have had no luck in junkyards or independent parts dealers. Help!!!! I have included the pic of the disk I need: thanks for everyone's help!! -Raf
  11. Hello, I bought a 1998 GS 300 with the navigation a while ago. I had some body work done to the vehicle after I bought it and never used the Navigation until now. I got an error that read "Hard Disk Error" after I popped the trunk and checked the navigation system I found out the hard drive disk was not there. I am pretty sure it was there when I dropped the car off but since I got estimates from 3 shops I am out of luck in regards to holding someone accountable. Sewell and other dealers are charging $360 for the updated (2004) hard disk, however, they are still wanting the core and charge $500 without it. Anyone have a disk I can purchase outright or any other ideas? thnx :( -R
  12. Has anyone encountered this problem? I have a 98' GS 300 with the Nav system. Lately whenever I turn it on the Lexus Logo comes on and stays on for about a a minute or so before going to the menu screen. Normally it should revert to the menu screen in a few seconds. Anyone have this problem, will it get worse?? thanks for your help
