  1. If I add an amp to my rx400 for an aftermarket stereo, where do I hook it in? I know I can't go off the starter battery, so where does it hook to? People are doing this on prius so it must be able to be done.
  2. I rented a prius recently and it did seem to say that it recharges the 12 battery at 4 amps or so. So that being the case, obviously the car is not running off of 4 amps, nor is it just running off an alternator without being filtered through something. So, there has to be a place to connect high powered devices such as car stereo amps to the car and such. Does anyone know where that place would be?
  3. the heat definately will drop your MPG, but I just drove one for 800 miles in Arkansas and was getting 38MPG going 80MPH on the highway. When I was doing lower speeds on other roads, I was over 40 MPG. That was with it 45 degrees out and the heat cycling on and off. Maybe she is putting her foot down too hard always causing the gas motor to come on.
  4. I would connect directly to the battery, as the cig lighter or the a/c plug out back will only handle about 100 watts and I need more like 250 watts.
  5. when the car is in the ready mode, I assume the batteries are connected? So if I hook to the starting battery, won't it drain the main drive motor battery until it kicks on the engine?
  6. but I would leave the system in the ready mode, if the battery starts to drain, won't it kick the engine on automatically?
  7. Hi, As the subject says, can I run a charger for my RC helicopters off the 12 volt battery in the rx400? I'm assuming if I leave the car in ready mode that the gas engine will kick in and charge the battery if needed. I'm just concerned with all the crazy electronics and stuff that I might break something. The charger would draw around 25amps or so for 20-30 minutes at a time.
  8. As the subject says, will a 7.1 nav disc work on the 2006 RX400H?
  9. yes, was more hoping someone hasd an older disc they wanted to get rid of. You know like 6.0 when they went to 6.1. Don't need the latest and greatest, but something with better POI's would be nice. I will try to search for the link. If you happen to find it, let me know.
  10. Does anyone have an old nav disc they aren't using that they want to part with or maybe want to make a copy of their nav disc for me? My wifes car is on like 4.something and would like to upgrade her a bit. I don't want to go up to 6.1 as I understand there are problems with bypassing the motion restrictions on it. My wife has a 2006 Rx400/
  11. as I understand, on the 2006, you can get the lockpick, but you won't get override if you upgrade to 6.1 or above. That kinda sucks.
  12. yes, the agree is not that bad, but not being able to do anyting while I drive is a nuisance, so if I can take care of the whole thing with one device, I'd like to, but getting ahold of coastal seems pretty tough.
  13. yea, only problem with those is they don't get rid of all the annoying nag screens. Really leaning towards the costal product as it seems it now does with with the factory dvd. You can't change the map disc though or you lose some featueres.
  14. Hi, I understand from awhile back that their are two choices for ipod adapters. I have a 2006 rx400H with the navigation. I understand vaistech and coastal tech both have ipod adapters. Question is, which do people prfer? I know that the coastal tech one wouldn't work on the cars with rear entertainment system but not sure if that has changed. If anyone has any info about these units, please let me know. Thanks Rob
  15. Hi, I have isolated the majority of my squeaks to the rear seats, apparently the armrest section when its up. What did people do to solve this? I don't just want to leave it down all the time.
  16. thing is you can go to zapworld.com and check out the zapX that should be out around the end of 2009. seats 5, does zero to 60 in 5 seconds and gets 350 miles to the charge. Yes its all electric. Its supposed to be like 60K. Why would anyone want to buy a hybrid at that point that gets 25 mpg if you are lucky? I love my 2006 rx400H NOW, but later, I will be buying an electric vehicle. IMHO, don't wait, buy now or wait and get something better.
  17. I wasn't going to reply to this but when I saw the part about most rx400H's don't have rattles and squeaks, I about fell out of my chair. Do you work for Lexus? I call BS on this post, who are you kidding? I'm back at lexus after this weekend so for the third time they can tell me they don't hear the roof rack banging away while I drive down the highway and they dont' hear the back of the car squeaking away. My corvette corvertible has less squeaks, as does my jeep wrangler. I had to take the privacy screen out of the car. The thing comes with a privacy screen, it should not need to be removed. They said throw it in its compartment and it will be quiet, yea right, it made more noise. So plain and simple, BS BS. I guess you never read anything about the first-year Mercedes SUV. It was so full of squeeks and rattles that sales plummeted for years. I don't think they ever fully recovered from the bad press they received after that fiasco. Even today, Mercedes Benz has one of the worst reliability ratings of any carmaker. I think if you were to poll RX400h owners, you'd find that the majority of them have few-to-no rattles or squeeks. Ours is virtually perfect in that regard. My interior lights turn off after a few seconds of closing the door. Not being to use the GPS protects Toyota from getting sued by all the sue-happy leeches out there. It's sad that there are so many, but they are there, waiting to sue after a collision that happened while they were entering an address in the NAV system. The ML500 gets 12 MPG in real-world city driving - no thanks! Yes, other gasoline-only vehicles are quieter during brisk acceleration, but that is a small price to pay for the extra power and twice the fuel mileage if the RX, IMO. Have you ever compared the "real world mileage" to that of any competing SUVs? The Mercedes and Volkswagens are horrible and the BMWs are not far behind. I'd go broke driving any one of the German SUVs, believe me. It sounds like you never test-drove your RX before you bought it. While this is not the vehicle for everyone, it is rated #1 by Consumer Reports for very good reasons. I kindly suggest that you buy the Mercedes and don't forget to wave to us as we pass you at the gas station.
  18. guys, I'm about to sue lexus, this is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I have to use my phone to dial numbers which is more dangerous then touching the screen. Lexus are a bunch of morons. Someone mentioned that you can cut a wire and have it work while driving. Can someone tell me how to do that please. this is a 2006 rx400h. Thanks Rob
  19. As the subject says, are their any performance options for the gs450H, to get the thing to go faster? I am thinking of one of these over a corvette, but I don't know if it will satisfy my need for speed.
  20. I'd like to know too. I can't get mp3's to play on my 2006 and it is fully loaded with everything. I've tried the front, the back, the sides (just kidding) and it will play nowhere.
  21. right, but this is a 2007 you are talking about, I have a 2006 and the functionality is a lot worse. We too have a problem with people not being able to hear us well.
  22. As the subject says, is anyone using newer tmobile phones such as the samsung trace or sidekick 3 with the 2006 rx400h bluetooth and how do they work? I read on lexus site that aside from the motorola phones, most of the phones have next to no functionality. Can't hear ringing, can't see signal strength. Frankly, I think Lexus majorly botched the job on this car and really should fix it.
  23. well I'll post my thoughts. This freaking thing is a rattle trap, honest to god, it rattles more than my wifes(now mine) Jeep Wrangler. 1st, I got a sound like beebies or something rattling at drivers ear level. Sounds like maybe the seatbelt height adjuster or something. Only when I drive over serious bumps like brick roads that we have a fair amount of in Florida here. 2nd, something from the back of the car. The privacy screen was making noise, like the fabric is just rubbing together or something. I had it in the back fully extended but with those clips that touch the tail gate pushed back so there should be no noise. Then I tried it with the screen not fully extended. It was about the same. Now I have it laying in the back of the trunk, its almost just as bad. Service tech said, thats just the way they are. Are you kidding me?? oh and its gets better. The roof rack rattles and they tell me its designed like that. No joke, it really is, go touch your cross slats, you will notice once side is kinda loose, thats the spring mounted easy one handed movement design. apparently, there is no noise if you load the rack up. So I just have to listen to a metallic noice from the roof rack every time I drive. Honestly, the best part about this car at this point is the RES and they didn't make the volume loud enough so I can barely hear the damn thing. Sorry to vent, but I'm pretty frustrated, I can't even use most of the phones with the blue tooth as most have next to no functionality.
  24. I was told by the lexus dealer that if you pop off the back plastic pieces, the crossrails will slide ride out. How hard was popping off the backplastic pieces?
