  1. What is the trick to replacing the Parking light bulb on a '95 SC. More to the point, I don't want to remove the headlight as that appears to be a big job. My wife has little hands but what direction should the bulb turn in order to remove it. Damn some things are tight in this car... Counter Clockwise?
  2. O.k, I just scheudled it for Monday at 4:30 ... I will take photos. Thank you for prompting me to light my own fire under my !Removed!. -L
  3. I have been ignoring my rip, but am going to tend to it in the coming week. I know a guy who performs interior repairs primarily for dealerships. I have seen his work before and he can nearly make it invisible though I still think it is a vinyl repair. That said, stop into a dealership and ask them who does their interior repairs. I met this guy through a Volvo dealership. If you take my advice visit a high line dealer for the referral.
  4. Yakima offers roof racks for an SC though Thule does not. http://www.rackattack.com/YakimaConfigurator/step1.asp When identifying the vehicle I inputed 97 SC as that is a cut off year for many companies. The roof section of the vehicle is identicle with the earier generations if I am not mistaken.
  5. Oh well. now they are now going to try to paint mix into the doors... Lets see what comes out of this one. In case this goes south, I'm looking at a nice flame job int the fenders or a 2 tone car....:cries: I would recommend being a bit more assertive with this. The paint mix is a lousy remedy when all that needs to be done is a repaint on the front of the car. Seriously, I would very nicely suggest an entire redo and if that strikes them !Removed! then contract a solid shop for the repair and bring the former to court. Truly, the ball is in your court with some photos. The mix will never, and I mean never look right.
  6. My .02 ... I have a '95 SC 400 in black and it looks identicle to your 'before' photograph. Further, I had light dents in my right door and left door/quarter panel and had a shop shoot the sides of the car in November. The original paint is represented by the LF fender and RR quarter panel and the job matches perfectly. I could be mistaken, but I thought the majority of shops were matching paint through utilization of technology. (Shoot the car with a scanner and analyze paint with software...) Most importantly, this is not rocket science and you contracted that paint shop to match your original color. They did not and thus are still under legal obligation to do the job you initially requested. I do not think a clear coat would cause this problem. Good luck
  7. I think calling BMW's junk is extreme. I still have a '86 e28 with only 111k miles that runs strong and look great. I agree that everyone should own one. The 5 series is just a uniquely crisp handling sedan. Further, I can find 0-60 times that put the cars near neck and neck. Time to throw down and run a strip :o
  8. I looked on Ebay (quickly) and did not see HIR bulbs. What are they? I usually stick to Silverstars as I melted a wiring harness on my Volvo with no-name aftermarkets.
  9. I have had a few BMW's in my day and I suspect the 540 would take you. Mind you it would not be a slaughter, but faster nonetheless. Hey...look at it this way...for every half second faster he is that will cost him an extra $1,000 a year in repairs :o I received a Corvette for my 17th X-mas. I totaled it within two months around a telephone pole. Go easy on the Lex for the next year. It is awfully fast for such a young driver. Enjoy
  10. Your SC looks great. Is it lowered? It sure looks like it....
  11. Nearly all factory windows are tinted less the windshield. Frankly, I have had numerous cars tinted in my day and the factory tint matters very little. As the prior poster mentioned the installer can best field that question.
  12. I would suggest reading through the thread found at the top of the SC300/400 forum entitled "Tell us about your car, its mods and probs". There are 76 post that identify the common problems encountered. ;)
  13. Just to throw an additional option out there... I chose to reduce the cost of the job by purchasing no-name Rotors (Korean) and high quality ceramic set of pads (to prevent squeaking). I replaced all four on the car this way and 3,000 miles later they are great. In retrospect, I have seen some other members post some extremely low prices for cross-drilled rotors on here that I might have considered, but just know that there is a lower cost option that functions quite well.
  14. 1995 SC 400 (black/black gut) Purchased @ 109k now have 113k for $5,400 wholesale 3rd owner (CARFAX = 1st owner repo'd at 60k :whistles: ) Has honeycome BBS style 16'' rims with Supra Offset in rear...changes the whole stance of the car Completely stock less painted pin stripes and even has stock Mobile Phone w/ antenna Adjusted Silverstars so I have high-beam bulbs in both low and high slots....a must do Repainted gray painted area on driver/passenger door adjacent to window due to chips It is interesting as I purchased this car for my father who always loved them. Due to a divorce I absorbed it as an asset largely to help with a few things. I never thought I could like an import but I love this car. The one mod. I am near certain to do will be installing an aggressive torque converter. I am told this will drastically solve the female demographic 0-30 time making it responsive like a Vette. Problems I have encountered what appears to be normal problems: PS pump leak....toasted alternator....replace...may need a rack as well....will know within days Headlights clouded...in 1 hr I wet sanded and buffed to near new condition RR taillight had moisture in it...bought replacement on Ebay for $120 shipped Timing belt replacement in the next two weeks..tentioners, water pump, plugs/wires etc. ($$$) Sunroof had considerable wind noise... oiled and improved Passenger seat jammed...pivots - this is a !Removed!, still have not fixed and expect it to cost $300 + Passenger door lock actuator issues... on the to-do list Replaced Antenna Mast (easy) Rotors and Pads all around ... Korean rotors (inexpensive) w/ composite pads (expensive)...works great Dash needs two backlight bulbs...no biggy CD changer naturally broken, replaced with second hand that was broken too(returned)...use an IPOD I intend to keep this vehicle for some time. My wife likes to name cars and assign them a gender...she thinks the SC400 is a !Removed! man...I still call it a her. :chairshot:
  15. If it is of interest I have a rack you may be able to have (approx. $190). I just had installed a new Power Steering pump and Alternator. The original diagnosis some months back was that my rack was leaking so I purchased a rack ('95 SC400) and have yet to install it. The pump dripped and fried my alternator before I got a chance. In the next few days we are going to throw it up on the lift to determine if the rack is in fact leaking or the pump was just dripping on it. Either way I feel your pain. I will offer this. When I sought the rack I was not concerned with the brand, but rather found there to be two different set ups. I belive one has wires running into it (perhaps with a module) that have something to do with the speed sensitive steering. I don't work on it myself and hope this is not incorrect information that leads to more confusion. Either way I spent some time and have the correct rack. In regard to the worth of the practice know that it is no small job in reference to paying someone else. I have a good friend who is my tech. and cuts me a very fair deal but if I recall correctly he estimated it at a 3-4hr. job start to finish and that it is, "no fun". Find a competent Import tech and they should be able to do it. My concern with not replacing it (113k miles) was that it would shorten the life of the PS pump and did not want to leave spots on friends driveways. It is a value judgement involving how long you intend to keep the car and the present expense. If the car is in uniquely fine condition you might drive it to 200k. I will post again shortly with an update. Hope this helped.
  16. I thought I would share this as I am so happy with the results. Using a dremel in five minutes I buzzed off a few pieces of plastic on a set of 'Silverstar' high beams and placed them in the low beam slot. Excellent mod and easy to perform B) . Now it will be interesting to see how long the bulbs last. Probably well known but I thought I would throw it out there. Between this and wet sanding/buffing the exterior of the lenses I can see again at night . I read of this on: http://www.intellexual.net/faq.html
  17. Well, much like my seat my schedule is jammed. I had my tech. take a look at it. He removed the seat and stated that I needed a regulator he thought. It is a shame I did not see it as I am confused on what to order. Does this seem right to anyone? I visited 'Lexus of Pembroke' online and they do not offer a regulator. The 'drilling down' of the website ultimately leads to a new seat quote at $1,300. There simply must be a cheaper solution. I am not in a position to dive into this myself and need to order a part for my tech to install. Any help is appreciated.
  18. I have a '95 SC 400 and the passenger seat is jammed on one of the tracks. Has anyone else encountered this problem? As one side still functions it essentially pivots instead of back and forth movement. My tech suggested replacing the entire track for around $250. Any thoughts appreciated...
  19. Why can I not send email? Must I sign on as a gold member ($50)? Much thanks...
  20. Hello, I would like to purchase a used Rear Right Tail light for my '95 SC as the current one is stained with water. Naturally, I have been looking on Ebay and phone TAP rather regularly. I thought I might see if anyone here has one available for purchase. I believe a '96 is the identicle style and I have no interest in upgrading to '97 style. I am restricted from email for some reason which I suspect involves a $50.oo membership fee so please email me at option00002@hotmail.com much thanks
