  1. Any chance you've lost one of the dual horns? It could be the panic is just using one, and then you'd also have just the single note on regular horn.
  2. If it's still the original, time for a new belt. Even if it is newer, it could be glazed and no longer pliable, causing the squeal.
  3. It's a way to get you into the dealership. Glossy is not the style most Lexus stores go for.
  4. I recall in all the materials that came with the car there is a caution that the 400h wheels have a higher weight capacity. It's not the size or offset issue that most tire dealers would research, but I'm not sure many would look at weight capacity.
  5. Try www.Leatherique.com Absolutely great product, Pristene Clean cleaner then Rejuvinator Oil conditoner. It can truly do wonders, look at their site. Low sheen, good aroma, apply with hands it's so neutral. I've used it on 3 MB's and now 2 Toyota/Lexus products.
  6. Is your overhead console switch set to turn on the lights with the door opening? There's a 3 position switch there. My '06 has the very dim footwell and handle lighting when the doors are closed, bright when open. You also must have the dash light rheostat turned up for them to work. There are a number of "conditions" in the manual. It appears the footwell lights are on full when the door is opened and dim when closed, so if you have bright lights when the door opens you're getting power there. It's possible the '08 dropped some parts of what's described in the manual ("equipment may vary...."). There's also a switch in the rear that brings on the rear lighting with the hatch.
  7. I got mine at the dealer, custom for the RX, and it does fit exceptionally well. I don't recall the brand they sell, and the salesman went and got it for me when we bought, so there was no charge, but it's the aluminum cloth skinned version, rolls up with a velcro strap for storage. addendum: I've used these folks on several cars, as well, and they do a nice job, same materials as my dealer's but a different brand, Fast delivery. Canvas Works/Heat Shields

  9. I've had HomeLink on probably 10 cars now, all worked fine with rolling code openers in 3 houses. I have had no problems following the instructions in the car manuals, accompanied by the instructions in the garage opener manuals regarding the learn button on the garage opener.
  10. Correct, brake application is not needed on 400h key ignitions. Push button start on other Toyota/Lexus cars does require it.
  11. Did I miss something??? was there suppose to be a link on this to link to other thread? I think he was encouraging you to do a search, yourself.
  12. In town, you'll be ahead, but the more driving over 40 mph, the less difference in fuel mileage vs a normal engine. I get 30-31 while staying in our (small) town, but on a 150 mile trip on 2 and 4 lanes at 55 or 70 limits, the trip mileage is only 28. Both are with fuel economy conscious driving. The 400h has great acceleration, especially off the line, but you'll see a sharp drop in economy.
  13. We have 25K + miles and have just about finished the first set of GoodYears on our 400h. Reading up on this brand on the 400h ... it doesn't seem that they are famous for great wear. Compareing 25K to the Michelins we just bought for our other hybrid? 90K mile warranty! Now THAT's what I call a warranty! For whatever reason, Lexus and Goodyear chose a tire with a treadwear rating of only 280 on the Goodyear Eagle RS/A. Many Michelins (and other Goodyears) had ratings near 400, so I don't expect a lot from mine (5k now, no abnormal wear patterns or noise yet).
  14. Electronics are sometimes fragile when you jump them. Not saying you did anything wrong but--you're under warranty so just let the dealer fix it all, and let him know you had to jump it. You might get a new battery under warranty and they'll sort out the gauge.
  15. There's an additive, as well, at auto stores. Put the contents in the tank, and drive it. I used it many years ago on an 83 MB diesel. We drove low annual mileage and the engine developed detonation. Literally, after about 20 miles with the additive in the tank, it stopped the detonation and it never returned. Good stuff, but if you already use Chevron it would be overkill unless you're trying to cure a problem.
  16. You need to be cautious with that practice. It's possible to pull fuel instead of vapors into the charcoal evaporative cannister, and cause some problems with warning lights and $$$. I believe the cap says stop at first cutoff.
  17. Yep, too much lift, numbness, too little, discomfort. I've been driving that long, too, and I'm not having a problem with the RX. It's odd that I can find immediate comfort with a non-power seat when I have the occasion. Put it in slot 4 and I'm good to go. Give me an 8 or 12 way seat, and memory 1 is for the current test, memory 2 is for the last one that I could live with! There are some good books on performance driving that give suggestions. Jackie Stewart published one.
  18. I'm 6', too, a little lighter, but honestly if I put the seat back all the way, I could barely touch the pedals! 'Just shows how proportions vary. Most performance driving schools say you should be able to touch the carpet behind the brake pedal in determining driving position, so you can safely operate brake and clutch. You have apparently adopted a different position or you have very long legs, but I'd say try moving forward and raising the back part of the seat so your head is nearer the ceiling, keeping the backrest fairly upright, and then lift the front portion of the seat to give you some support. Steering wheel should be in a position where, with arms extended, your wrist falls on the top of the rim. That's one school of thought, there are others. Just a suggestion, try it for a day. I have pretty bad sciatica problems, and extended leg driving, on cars where I had little choice, aggravates it.
  19. Maybe they heard there was some ..... coming at 40 mph through the deep water on the temporary roadway, and they were getting out of the way. :chairshot: Seriously, drivers should never drive into any water that appears more than a few inches deep. You're asking for trouble, both as wwest described and potentially mechanically or even a crash.
  20. Basically, your manufacturer warranty assumes no modifications of any kind, so it's not so much how it affects the vehicle as the fact that it's there. If you ask in advance, the dealer will say it may void your warranty. If you have a problem, he may fix it under warranty, anyway, but modifications with any non-Lexus part give them an out if they need one. He's stuck in the middle on warranty reimbursements if the factory won't accept his claim, and it's tough to seek a "good will" warranty after the normal time or miles if you have a modification. It's kind of like your car insurance that says "no racing" but you took your car to a good driver's school and wrecked it. Now, what?
  21. Why do you say so? It's running purely on electric, just like the PS, and it appeared to have no effect on fuel mpg nor acceleration performance last summer. Plus, it's instantly cold irrespective of engine speed. Maybe a load on the standard battery, I can see, but not the hybrid system. See also discussion Denso A/C The electric power to run your A/C either comes from the ICE running to charge the hybrid battery or the ICE running to move the vehicle so that during coastdown/braking the energy can be recovered to charge the hybrid battery. Either way it initially came out of the end of the fueling hose at the station. There are NO free lunches nor perpetual motion machines. When it's hot, A/C is worth whatever it takes, electric or belt driven (getting us back to an RX 350 topic, not hybrid). And the switch on the dash disables it.
  22. 'Glad you found one. You'll like it. Had there been any available, I probably would have, too.

  24. Yes, Auto will default to having the compressor run. It controls temp better, and it dehumidifies. I believe the compressor will turn itself off at about 32 but I just punch the A/C button whenever I don't feel A/c is needed. Fortunately, it stays off until you reselect it or hit Auto again, even with car restarts. Most cars I've had recently operate this way. Regarding noise, although you don't describe it, there should be none but low fan sound. It could be something entered the system and is hitting the fan or some piece was improperly aligned at manufacture. Without a description, that's a guess. Take it to the dealer.
  25. The thread takes on a life of its own, and we've never heard back from the originator in 5 days. 'Probably bought a Jeep. :chairshot:
