  1. Just 2 days ago coming around a long corner I changed lanes in order to get out of the way of another car, just as I turned the wheel I hit a bump instanly sending me across the road into the curb destroying the passenge-side rear wheel and most of whats attached to it. I dont know much about mechanical work on cars so Im lacking of the names of the parts. ......Well the wheel is dangling, bent, and sticking out of the car, and when I gave it gas to try to pull over more...no wheel spin at all. The axel is broken off from the wheel, the lower arm connecting to the bottom of the coilover is bent, the upper arm looks like it needs replacing too, theres a couple of other little arms that are broken but other than that, I dont know. At First I saw all that goop and thought my coilover had busted (if that makes scense), but It looks alright, and straight.... Or at least I really hope so beacuse I just put them on less than a month ago!.....I guess I'm goin to a body shop, or my neighbor knows someone who could come to me, and possibly fix it at my house...and I guess hes real cheap. THE WORST PART IS I hadnt been driving the vehicle for a while so I didnt have full coverage with my insurance, needless to say Im totally F***ed. I need to do this as cheap as possible! Im 20, in school and short on funds. I can get a loan to fix it as soon as possible, which is what I need to do. I found the parts at a auto recycling lot...I know a quality body shop but its not the cheapest, he says without looking at it...It would be $380 for all the parts in that area including the brake line and stuff, not including the sub-frame because I think its ok....and then It would come to about $875 with installaion. I think Im probably going to go through with it unless this is somthing that can be done on my own, or if someone knows a place in the San Diego area that will do if for less, and wont half-!Removed! the work. So is this somthing I could do with another person? The pictures kinda suck
  2. I did seafoam not to long ago and saw absolutely nothing, and I dont really drive the car all that hard so I would think there would be some build-up in there. I did into the gas tank, intake, engine block.....maybe I should have done the brake booster line but Im not positive where that is. Seemed really odd to me but anyways I changed the oil, got NGK iridium plugs, new OEM wires ($120), and a new head gasket because mine was done for....So that may be why It didnt work, I dont know.
  3. Ya that sounds good, I do have the jz-ge in-line six though, so like you said It will have a different effect opposed to your V8 (forgot to mention that). My buddy had a Prelude 4 cyl. with a 50 shot and I heard he still took off, smaller engine smaller car but Im sort of guesing it would give me a nice kick on the straights....In the long run I just need to at least be able to out run an average sport/luxury car. First im doin Dragon t.c. , lsd, I would really really like a 5spd conversion but I need to talk to someone whos done it.
  4. Some time in the far future (after my other little list of mods) I was considering a 50 shot, just for a little somthing extra, opposed to it being my main power upgrade. I knew NOS wore engines like no tomorrow, but I was thinking (assuming) just a 50 shot would let me get away without destroying anything, but im probably wrong.
  5. Yah I had to do new head gasket, spark plugs, and wires but I wasn't about to take apart my intake manifold. So if your unexperienced like me I wouldnt mess with it, I saw what exacly needs to be done. Oh yah my plugs were literally flooded w/ oil, thats how bad the gasket was.
  6. I just put in Tein type basic coilovers on my sc300, Im very impressed. I was going to go with the superstreet coilover but decided to save the other couple bills, and Im glad I did because they did just what I needed. The difference is night and day with these and with my 9" tires in the rear I feel like Im driving a race car compared to stock. I have it set as low as possible with no rub , its finally starting to look how I want it (Ill post some pics soon). So needless to say im very happy with my choice. Question is, what can I do to get my steering tighter (a stiffer feel in the wheel itself ). Would it be sway bars? or those lower control arms and bushings like you guys were talking about? I think I might get a front strut bar because they arn't much $$, but would I feel a difference with that? By the way Im planning on that Dragon T.C. and the SAFC piggyback ECU with engine tuning. Thanks for your opinion guys.
  7. Whoever is telling you his BMW is better than yours has no sense of stlye whatsoever. In terms of sheer design, the 1st gen SC is better than a BMW anyday, even the new ones and especially your friend's old piece of junk. The SC was so pioneering when it came out. Your friend's BMW is nothing more than an unreliable German box of metal, in my opinion. Don't forget to remove your spare tire and anything else in the trunk, 1/4 tank of gas is all you need to lighten the car up a bit. And of course remove anything else that isn't bolted down. I agree completely. Personally I'd take a customized SC over any german car anyday. If I had a million bucks and could only have one car, It'd probably be the SC300 5 spd, (with about 40k dropped in it). How rare the car is would be one of my favorate things about it, everywhere I look I see a damn BMW or Benz and they all look the same. The SC can really turn some heads, no one knows anything about it, or what I got. I'm on 18" black rims w/polished lip deepdish in the rear and 9" wide. I've got aftermarket intake, exhaust, and I can safely say Im the only moded SC you'll ever see in my area, and I kind of like that. (acually Im 20 and Im prob the only one under the age of 50 with this car in my area but its cool). If you havnt already, check out intellexual.net and read up on the heritage, and all the awards it won and what not.
  8. If my memory serves me properly it is 5.3 qts. with a filter change. 4.8 with filter 4.5 qts without, straight from the SC 300 manual You two say 5.3, or 4.8, pepboys says 3.8, The Lexus dealer ship says 6.0... So at the end of my crap day I've decided I should have just continued with eyeing out the dipstick (which has worked fine for over a year)...It ended up being probably about 5.8 quarts,
  9. Pepboys says 3.8, so I did that then it seemed low. I normally eye it out with dipstick but I want to know exacly. I dont have a car manual either. thanks
  10. Then how do I find a good aftermarket intake? Theres houndreds for the IS
  11. Looking to get a new intake. I might do the BFI intake design which is the best that can be done, but im not sure if I still have the box required to do it. So I need to know if the IS300 or GS300 intake will fit my SC300. I thought it would scince its the same 2jz motor. Thanks for the help anyone
  12. What is a Apexi SAFC piggy back system all about, and what exacly should a good engine tune consist of? (obviously a newbie) Ok so the Dragon T.C. is now first priority, after I purchase the Tein coilovers, either the Basic or Superstreet series. I live down here in the San Diego area, can you recommend anyone up there on putting in that torque conv. I know a good place but I'd rather drive up there if I could save some money, or stress. I have custom built dual 2.5" piping exhaust, pinched slightly at the bends, but topend out beats the v-tech and rsx-s. Im deffinatley am going to look seriously into the BFI exhaust system, or atleast somthing with a completely enclosed air box keeping any warm air from the intake. I think my car is compatable with the GS or IS intakes but im not sure, any idea? (same 2jz-ge) And how about some kinda racing chip, or computer? I've heard for some cars that can mean big power gains. Thank you for your time.
  13. Hey Jibby I know Im off topic with this but I know you can help me. (I dont know crap) Im tryin to get some ideas on how to get my 94 SC300 (automatic) to preform better. In the next few weeks I'll be putting on Tein coilovers, and I got 9" wide hankook tires in the rear, needless to say handeling will be superior. Now I plan to follow a couple of mods you've done like- Some sort of intake (I only have cone filter), do you know if my cars intake is compatible with the GS00, or IS. Also do you think I should do Dragon torque conv. first, or do the rear end , I dont need to top at 145mph, and 0-40 is WAY too slow on these cars. Electric cooling fan is on the list, and maybe even a little 50 shot of nos someday. PLEASE HELP WITH ANY AND ALL IDEAS ON WHAT I CAN DO Thanks alot Jibby I really appreciate it.
  14. I've got some ideas on doing my suspension aswell as somthing else for power but I need some opinions on what to do. First off I need to find a site that is really good for finding SC parts... Suspension. I've been planning to get the Tein superstreet coilovers but have been thinking maybe ill go with the Tein basic coilover to save money for a torque converter or somthing. Does anyone know anything about the Tein basic?? Are they worth it or should I dish out the other $250 for superstreet. I already have 18x9 Hankooks that grip the road probably 60% better than stock. Car will look so much better dropped 1.5". Power. I REALLY NEED SOME IDEAS on what to do with getting this car faster without going turbo. I know I want to do the rear-end, anyone know how much that will cost, or if getting a Dragon torque converter would be better? also Ive thought of an electric cooling fan. Please give me ANY ideas on little things I can do. Also Is my SC300 Compatable with intakes for the GS300 or IS300, I thought they were but gotta make sure. What about the part for the air flow sensor (right behind the filter) anyone else think that looks restrictive how it is a bit smaller that the rest of the intake. Thanks alot for your help.
  15. Yah i didnt really take long enough to look at it when i posted that, about 25mins after that i figured it all out so tomorrow im goin at it. anyways im just hopin this will fix my problem
  16. hey JIBBY- I picked up a can of seafoam and im getin ngk spark plugs. Ill have to read that thread on the seafoam again but thats all good, but i looked at where the spark plugs are and i noticed that piece of steel going across right behind the plugs, am i supposed to take that out? How do i go about doing this, first time ive done it (obviously) and i dont wanna F up. I appreciate any help thanks and sorry im a little off topic
  17. I wouldnt do that, but i still need to getem in the car. disassembly/assembly but ya im getin good plugs and wires and i got a can of that seafoam
  18. How am i gonna get to those plugs? I returned the bosch and I looked at some ngk's, 6.99 a piece, i want some good ones, but at the same time i dont want to pay $10+ for one. Anyways im kinda stressin it and i just hope theres nothin more wrong, But any comments on installing the plugs/wires and whatnot would really help. Thanks
  19. Thanks for the input How much you think i should pay to have fuel filter replaced? Today i bought new bosch platinum 2 spark plugs and a can of sea foam. Im just really really hopin everything will work out. BUT i looked at where the plugs are at... how am i going to get to those under there? also this is the first time ive changed spark plugs. Should i get the wires to go with the spark plugs? Check engine light is off Anything else that might help to maintain my engine/tranny? Thanks again
  20. As of yesterday my car seems to be driving as though it is running out of gas, constently. Low rpms, like at an idle it starts getin all jumpy and puttin out a little bit. When i accelerate its on/off like its not getting enough gas, but power seems to be there. It also seems to get better as it warms up. Nothing was wrong with the car before, other than when i would first start it it would have way less power, and a less smooth idle, but only for the first few minutes of driving. (which is unerstandable, its 12yrs old) Check engine light is off. I dont know what to think, im a newbie and basically dont know anything about mechanical work, i have very few ideas on what this could be Any help or even just a comment would be greatly appreciated Also im in the north county San Diego area, anyone know of a good place with someone whos worthy? im willing to go as far as i need to for someone legit to take a look and help me with other mods. Thank you
  21. how much are the dragon torque converters, and how much do you think it will boost me up in hp. Or would you do headers first?
  22. I got 123k miles and i found that 5w30 was just to thin for how old it is, (but in prime condition) So i use 20w50. also i had a leak inbetween the engine and the tranny, that little gasket needs to be replaced but it fixed the problem for a while. Car seems to almost run smoother also. (or maybe im just trippin) I do every 3,000 miles also
  23. please help.... My ECT doesnt work?! the button itself is very loose and swivels back and forward easily, and doesnt change anything. Ive had it broken scince i bought it and decided its time to take care of the problem because i may me missin out somthing. What does anyone think? seems to have all the wires connected under shifter panel. I also have my 12disc cd changer with the Nakamichi system, but wont work, not the fuse(but maybe somthing related)??? My steering wheel is stuck almost all the way up and my passenger window contorls are on and off too anyone know a place thatll do that kind of work without tryin to rob me thank you
  24. city driving i deffinatley use it, or anything 45mph or less. otherwise i feel like its going from 3rd to 4th and back to often. when its off it prety much just means it stops shifting at 3rd gear, right? or does it acually have more power in those low gears???
  25. I have 122k on my SC300, the tranny fluid is nasty, but im afraid to change it cause ive heard stories about it messing it up. Could someone PLEASE help me out here, thanks.
