  1. The on board computer is always generous by around 3% but since I have 255/55 tires, or 3% bigger, I factor that in and my calculations and the computer line up pretty closely now. This last tank the computer said 27.6 and I calculated 27.56...tenths are as close as the computer registers....so it worked out the same. ...just to remind all of you, that's the best MPGs I've had since I bought the car almost three years ago. I drive normally, carefully, but not granny-like. I really do think that the L.A. freeways are PERFECT for hybrids. I am lucky, I don't have to commute but lately I have been on the freeways more and it really pushes the MPGs up. It's the constant traffic here that makes the hybrids do great. I used to get so mad in traffic..partly it was the waste of gas just sitting and moving 20MPH then stopping, moving 20-30...etc. Now it really has made a difference in my emotional state! I'm basically in golf cart mode for miles. Rey
  2. Every other new vehicle I've bought, I have started keeping track of mpg manually. I know that it is an indication of lots of things. I'd love to know what it is over time. I thought that it would be pretty easy to keep track here. I guess I'll have to choose between mileage tank at a time or some other logical unit. Thanks for the information. We feel good about the first tank 27.1 mpg I've never, in the three years of having my 400h, have gotten less that 24MPGs and my previous best was 27.1....UNTIL today...a whopping 27.56MPGs. I do it on paper so it's accurate. But for the most part I get around 26. I do mostly in-town driving. The fact that this last tank went to 27.5 was because I had longer drives and anyone here in L.A. knows that the traffic is often slow and allows for not only the car to be very warmed up but also many slow coasts which make the MPGs go up,up,up. 3. I agree, I do it by rote. I usually have the MPG window open but when I use the map, I don't really remember having to push the "I agree...", but I must because the map is up. However, the last time that I had my car in for service I was given an ES350 and I did like that the "warning" window shuts off after a few seconds..but I was SO glad to get my hybrid back. So far I've had an RX 330,350 and ES350 as loaners and none feel as good as the 400h. It must be the CVT , the power on the highway is so much better in the 400h as well. The cornering on the ES is obviously better though. Hey, while I'm at it...how come Lexus decided not to have the fancy keyless entry and push button start on the 400h? I loved that in the new ES350! Rey
  4. Yes, I like them more now than when I put them on and I do agree that it looks great with all four. Thanks. I know the stuff that I add on isn't for everyone, but that's why this forum is so nifty. Everyone gets to express themselves and if anyone was interested in adding anything to their RX, it's good to see pictures from a fellow owner and their opinions on the items. To date I got: Front bumper lip, side chrome nerf bars, Toyo 255/55 18 tires, side visors, sunroof wind deflector,I had to add the wooden steering wheel...That's it. anyway, it's all fun stuff. Remember, it was only last year that my car was dowsed with acid and had to get a complete strip down and repaint job along with all of the plastic trim that had to be replaced...so I am just glad that I have that all behind me now! Happy trails, Rey
  5. Every Lexus dealer seems to be great but replacing the tires was a very unusually nice move on their part. Anyway, I find that different tires have an optimum tire pressure and with my Toyo tires it feels like 38psi is just perfect. The dealership now sets it at that when I come in. I also got a small tire pump at my local hardware store,OSH, for under $20 that I keep in the car and a pressure gauge and periodically check the pressure to keep all four tires at exactly 38. I would love to know an RX owner that has the Alenzas just so I can compare them with my Toyos. I have a few areas around town that I know to have really rough patches of road and I used that as a gauge as well as a tight curve on the 110 frwy(one of the oldest freeways in the country and quite an "E" ticket ride!) ,they are both great for evaluating tire feel and performance. The Good Year tires were softer but cornered terribly. Anyway, I am too happy with the Toyos and will more than likely buy them again...if they ever wear out! I'm glad that UCLAAlum got such a great deal and an understanding dealer. They...all Lexus dealers must now know how bad the original GYs are from countless complaints . Rey
  6. I got my FIRST set from ebay with a place named REN-SPORT...they were fine but one of the visors I later noticed wasn't as nice as the other three, it was a little warped and wavy....I went back and forth with these guys, sent pics...even OFFERED to buy the one and pay for shipping. I didn't hear from them again so I went with another ebayer, "ezplus" and they were awesome. Same set of four $19.95 "Buy it Now" price as opposed to the $9.95 from Ren Auto..., this brand is "JDM" different brand than the first pair, but identical! So in essence, I bought four more just to replace one defective one! I was OK with that,it all seemed a good price to me. These guys were great, they got them to me lickety-split and they were perfect. So now I have three new ones as back up. I liked them so much that I decided to get the sunroof visor from WeatherTech from another ebayer and I am really very happy with all of the visors, side windows and sun roof. I can now drive with the sun roof back without all of the noise that I hated before...just go on eBay and type in "Lexus RX vent visors". They were listed as, " Lexus RX330 vent visors by JDM, 2004-2006" from "ezplus2003" and of course the 330 is identical to the 350 and 400h as far as windows are concerned,up to 2008,even 2009. Anyway, get them, they are fab! Yes, I don't mind that they adhere to the outside...doesn't bother me one bit. They look great,my car looks great and they don't have any way of interfering with the windows. When I had to take the defective one off, 3M tape is reversible so it doesn't damage the finish at all if you take them off for whatever reason. The roof one attaches even better, with screws that are placed into another piece that sits in the channel, the shield/visor is in between the piece in the channel and the screw. So any time that you even wanted to take off the roof shield/visor for whatever reason, you simply unscrew it and the car is exactly the same as before! I was scared when I saw the screws(two) in the package until I realized they don't screw into the car at all. The sunroof slides the same as before, no problem. As I said, the side visors were "Buy it now" for $19.95 but they WILL go down to $15 if you offer them $15.! The roof visor I believe was about $60...anyway, I am really jazzed with them all. Even at 80mph,they are the same as when I didn't have them! No matter what anyone says and I am driving the same distance on a tank of gas...but I've only had them one tank! But regardless, I love them. Let us all know if you get some and post pictures. Have fun, Rey
  7. Yep, that's it. they are about 1/4" bigger all around so now my computer MPGs are really close to my calculated MPGs! The Toyo S/Ts are a wee bit bigger, not like MONSTER TRUCK sized! But they look more like they belong...in my opinion, of course. I teach at the Art Center College of Design, world famous for car design, so to me the stock size just looks wrong, too small. Again, it's just an opinion. Anyway, the Toyos really ride nice and smooth and handle great even in the pouring rain...as seldom as that is in L.A. that is!. I think that as long as we don't have those stock Bad Years, er, I mean , Good Years, that came with some of our cars, your already way better off! Toodles, Rey
  8. I know everyone loves the Alenzas but from what I have read, the tires that I have on my 400h, Toyo S/T's 255/55/18" are rated better. The fact that Tire Rack doesn't sell them makes it invalid to say that the Alenza's are the best since they don't have a rating for any Toyo tires. The Alenzas are the best that they SELL for our car. Just something to think about because I have had my Toyo's for 15 months at this point and they are fabulous. I do live in L.A. so I can't address weather issues but these tires are the best I've ever had in the rain. I also like the more aggressive tire pattern, but then that's why some people DON'T like them. They were supposed to be loud after 10K miles, as told to me by a Lexusclub member, but they are as quiet as they were when they were put on. They are wider so they simply feel more sure-footed and the ride is great. I was thinking that after these I'd get the Alenza's but it would take a lot for me to switch...but they are barely worn so I don't have to make that decision for a while so I'll leave that open. Rey
  9. Look at LauraW's post on "Best Ipod integration for 2008 RXh"... scroll down and she mentions this,if I remember correctly, after talking about other technical info....good luck , this forum is great for things like this. I have always gotten great advice and info from the good people on this site. Rey
  10. Be sure to check out the reviews of the Bridgestone Alenzas here and on Tire Rack. I had the same complaint w/my Michelins and absolutely love the Alenzas. They are quiet, smooth, and offer excellent performance in both dry and wet conditions. After I purchased them, I deliberately drove through puddles and rain-soaked roads at high speed-no hydroplaning whatsoever! Happy shopping! Rey-Vent Visors really compliment your design-congrats!! Thanks so very much. The good thing about 3M tape is that it is very secure but it can be taken off so if I don't like them for whatever reason, they are off baby! But I love them right now. About tires...... yes, I knew a lot about the Alenzas and have heard only good things. I also know that Tire Rack doesn't have any reviews on any Toyo tires because they don't sell them so I looked them up and they got even better reviews than the Alenzas but I know that they are both amazing tires. I simply made my decision between the two....drum roll please...on looks! I also know that some people don't like the more aggressive look of the Toyo S/Ts...but then, that's why we all wear different clothes, shoes, etc! Thanks again...I think that at this point I would get the Toyos again but the only other choice for me would be the Alenzas. Thanks and be well my friend. Rey
  11. Thanks. I know that there are better fitting types but I wanted to try these since they were so inexpensive and so far they have been fabulous. If someone posts close ups of the $200 visors and I like them a whole lot better, maybe I'll get them but for a total of less than $30, I couldn't pass these up. As I said, it came with the rear door visors as well but I didn't like the way they looked overall. Rey
  12. I live in L.A. so rain is infrequent but I can tell you that the first rain after I bought them I paid very close attention to the ride and they were fabulous! Really. It's easy for me to buy something, not like it and try something else but I will get these again. But as I said, I am no expert on tires in different weather conditions. It's never extreme here and I am never in snow nor a lot of rain. BUT...and this is a big but...when it does rain here it is different than many other places and more dangerous due to accumulation of rubber, oil, stuff on the highways and streets so I especially liked how well the Toyos handled in those conditions. My 400h came with the Good Years which are the worst so I only have that to compare it to but it was a blessing in disguise to have had to replace those tires in the first year and got the Toyos. Hope this helped...oh by the way, I am so glad that I got the visors on my side windows. They have really made a nice difference and even at 80 MPH I haven't noticed ANY sound difference and in the slower speeds, it's actually reduced. The only thing that is on the con side is that my drivers side visor has created a blind spot but I have gotten used to it. It warps the view when I look towards the post, like when someone is crossing the street. Rey
  13. Well there is absolutely no change in the basic body of the RXes especially in regards to the windows so some vendors just haven't added the 08 to their description but the vents fit all of our new RXes. But I am glad that you got the whole shebang and look forward to seeing it all together. I'm not sure if I want the bug deflector but I might want the sunroof deflector. Rey I didn't know about the body style being the same. This is my first Lexus so thanks for the info. I was also uncertain about the bug deflector but my windshield currently shows evidence of a need thanks to the insects in this area. I also have about a mile of gravel road to drive on to get to my home so I worry about gravel chips from cars (and kids on four-wheelers) ahead of me. I am not thrilled with the 3M adhesive attachment for the bug deflector but I couldn't find one that mounted with screws. At least all of the items will match so I guess that's a plus. Are you a dealer by chance? I noticed you said 'our new RXes'. If so, sorry about the royalty check comment earlier. No offense intended. :) Much appreciative! Vanessa No, I am NOT a dealer, I meant "ours" as in...yours, mine, the people on this forum. Oh, I have used 3M adhesive many times with different vehicles, it is great and nothing to worry about! The good thing is that it is all reversible if you ever want to get rid of something that you adhered with 3M. Rey
  14. Do these fit up inside grove where the window is or do the stick on the outside? Can you post a close up picture? Lenny Outside. I know that there are different types but for the price, under $30, I had to give them a try. I'm happy with them and if there's something that comes up, I'll post that too. I will post close ups. I think some people won't like the outside fit type that I got but I don't mind. They look good and after I post close ups then anyone interested can decide for themselves. Rey
  15. I received the vent visors that I bought on eBay and they are really great. I can actually drive with my passenger window down four inches without the odd wind tornadoes inside the car that I had always experienced. They were a total of a little over $28 including all four, shipping and since it was a California vendor, tax as well. Anyway, I didn't like the back visors so I opted not to put them on. They are very streamlined and quiet. So far I'm happy. I love the fact that I can actually drive with the windows partially down now....anyway, you might notice the chrome headlight trim as well and of course, my nifty front lip and GREAT Toyo tires. The tires are 255/55/18 so they fill the well just a wee bit more but look much better and that wee bit more made a big difference. Notice, no roof rack. OK here are the latest...as you can see, I'm fickle...I now have all four visors on! Oy Vey...I crack myself up. I figure I'll live with them a few days and decide whether to keep the rears on or not. I now like them! Ayayayee...what am I going to do with me? So now everyone can see,if you are even interested in the visors, if you like them or not or if you want just the fronts...etc. Thanks to silly me you can pick...or not. Rey
  16. Actually Vanessa the info came from SKperformance so we have him to thank. I might put the front ones on and see how they are and I also ordered the sunroof shield. I took my roof rack off and it did not make one iota of difference in regards to noise,MPG,no difference good or bad, so I am trusting that adding the low, sleek, sunroof shield will not make any adverse difference. 3M tape is reversible so I am going to try the side window shades anyway. Keep me posted as to what you will do. By the way, I'm OK with people calling me by my real name....Rey
  17. Thanks, I might not put them on. It was only a $28 loss. Rey
  18. Rey
  19. James, I don't have run flat tires but I hear that the produce a harsh ride. Something to consider when we have a cushy ride. I have had my Toyo Proxes S/T 255/55 18"s for over a year,14K miles and they are the best tires I have ever had...and they look amazing to boot! Rey in L.A.
  20. OK, I just bought a set of four on eBay. I'll let everyone interested know how they are. The grand total was $28.77 and they looked great. They had multiple views on an RX 400h and they looked really nice. They were $9.95,plus shipping and Ca tax, since they and I are in Cali...so the $28.77 was everything. I'll post pictures. Plus last week I got some headlight chrome trim that I need to take a picture of as well. Rey
  21. Check eBay, I just saw some,a set of sour vent shades, for $19.95, 14.95 shipping, the company is "JDM". On Amazon I found some from "AUTO VENTSHADE" all four for $69., $11.99 shipping They all look the same to me. Rey
  22. Vanessa, the thing that I didn't like about the "As Seen On TV" window fan was that there was a permanent strip that had to be in place along the top of the window and it made the window vulnerable to break ins. I live in L.A. so we don't do anything to make things easier for the morons that take advantage of good folk. They don't mention that flaw in the commercial. I might do the window vent shade mentioned. Thanks for the link "RX400h" and Tom.... and Vanessa, if you get the vent visors, do us a favor and post a picture or two OK? Also which ones that you get and how much. Happy trails, Rey in L.A.
  23. If you could post a pic that would be great. I have a friend with an LS600 that I'm going to visit this week. I'm going to compare our systems and see if they look the same. No need to apologize, Ray!! If my response had a grouchy tone to it, it was only because I was irritated with my experience with the dealer. Oh good, because I never intend to be disrespectful. I have to tell you though, even the time that my GPS didn't register the street names, it actually didn't even have the streets at all...no lines, grid, nothing, so I don't know what's up with your GPS and I am surprised that the dealership has been of no help. Good luck.
  24. I'm really sorry, the "Sticks" remark was in reference to the only time that I saw what you displayed, and I WAS in the sticks... I meant no disrespect to you or Las Vegas...which EVERYONE knows is not the sticks! I was just trying to be funny about my experience. Anyway, you should never have had that problem in Las Vegas! As a matter of fact, the whole thing that you experienced sounds fishy to me. I think there's something wrong with your GPS and they don't want to admit it. Rey
