  1. I was proud of this....check this out....I took a magazine holder, the kind that you might see or find at STAPLES for holding magazines that you want to keep on a bookshelf. Well I found one that was made out of thin but sturdy, satin black plastic material that matched the black runners really well. I measured the slots left behind and with a utility knife cut the four pieces (they were about 1 3/8" X 4 3/8"). The ones in the back are slightly longer by the way. Anywho, because the pieces that I cut are plastic I was able to create a curvature to match the black satin bars imbedded on our car....with me still? I'm trying to be as clear as I can be...so then I used the 3M automotive tape to secure them down and I'll tell you, people have been impressed. It's not "custom shop" smooth but "Boy Scout" clever and it worked really well. Only Lexus folks might see what I did! I'd take a picture but you wouldn't be able to tell....I have the pieces on in the photos that I have included and from those, there's no way that you could tell. You'd have to get on my Nerf Bars to see what I did. I just like figuring things out myself and I LOVE the car without the racks more and more. I just added two more pictures (above)) to show you the way the roof looks after I added the plastic pieces to cover the bracket slots left behind from taking off the roof rack. I hope this helps, Rey
  2. Yes. I thought at first that it was a bit harsh since I wasn't tellling anyone that they HAD to take off the rack but then I figured that it was't meant the way it was written so don't worry. Thanks for the clarification though. At least now if anyone is even considering removing the roof rack there is a picture of mine to help in deciding. Have a great holiday season and many blessings to you and your family and friends. Rey
  3. I understand Tom, it took me a year to get the courage to do it but as I said, it's all just personal preferences like color, wheels, etc. My last car was a PT Cruiser and it was made to accessorize so I still had the "bug" to change things on my car. I teach at the Art Center College of Design where we produce some of the best car designers in the world so I am surrounded by clever leavers as far as how cars look. Anyway,it's all fun. Our cars are often an extension of our personalities and I am just glad to have such a great car made by such a far thinking company. Happy Holidays and I wish you all peace and love, Rey in sunny L.A.
  4. I can respect that of course....It's such a great car that we should all just be happy we have one,eh? Have a great day Lexers! I do agree that at least the racks are done with a sleek and elegant design, I can go either way and right now I love my Princess without but like a hair do...I can always go back!. Hooray for our differences, eh? Your RX400h buddy, Rey
  5. I hope these pictures help. I really like my car without the roof rack. In over a year I have never used it and more than likely never will. Our RX looks great either way so don't do this unless you feel pretty strongly about taking it off. Note on the picture with one of the corner pieces, that the corner piece has to be lifted and THEN pushed forward to be free of the yellow pin. Note I also have "HYBRID" emblems and logotype. All free from the dealer...well, after spending so much cash on this baby, they better throw in a few measely emblems,eh? Rey Bustos in sunny L.A.
  6. Now THIS, I've gotta see! Of course...I'll take some pictures soon. I really like the way it looks. Sorry about the lack of photos but I will do that soon. Rey Bustos On their way "Husker...".I found some plastic that matched the channels pretty well. I simply cut them to size and fit them into the openings and as I said, the roof line looks fabuloso! It's amazing how a little change makes such a big difference. My RX400h actually looks sportier and because it looked so tall the lack of roof rack brought it down only a few inches but visually it looks like a lot more. Pictures soon,I promise. Rey in L.A.
  7. Well I did it. I have an RX400h and I love this car like a pet but I have never really liked the roof rack and they all come with it,at least I haven't seen one without one. Anywho, I took it off and the car looks really very nice and the lines are cleaner in my opinion. In case anyone might think do this I will try to explain the way I did it. First I put on gardeners gloves, the kind that are cloth with little black rubber dots all over them...it's not required, just what I had,but I felt that it made the job so much easier and with less risk of scratching the "Princess" or me. OK...there are four end pieces, two on each side front and back of the front to back main bars running along the roofline,on all corners....it's tricky but as you lift, and it's not easy, push the front one forward towards the front windshield and push hard. It may feel as though it'll break, but it didn't with me. It will give with a little force. yes, it made me nervous because I didn't have a manual and the dealership always wants to charge an arm and a leg for anything so I didn't dare have them do it.....well there is one vertical plastic yellow pin that resembles the doohickeys that you put into drywall to be able to secure a screw and that is what's holding the end pieces down. I took that one off for both front corner pieces and for the back ones just did the same except I pushed up and back towards the back of the car. Once all four of the ends are off the 8 bolts,2 on each corner, were now exposed and ready for a quick ratchet (sp?) loostening. Voila, all came off in one big section, the cross bars attached and all. For easy storage there is only one screw per corner keeping the cross bars in place and it all comes apart and can be stored like skies. I think the car looks fab without the rack....there are little channels that are left exposed but I covered them with automotive 3M tape and black eectrical tape over them but you can figure out a better way as I will but for now...it's beautiful folks! It's a great car with or without so only do this if you were like me...not happy with them on,never needing them and curious about how it would look without them...well, it looks great! Rey Bustos, happy with my Lexus in L.A.
  8. Reply to the decals...I got one from Cafe' Press and it was a Hybrid synergy Drive decal and it was really bad. Cheap and not worthy of our 50K car. Just leave it clean. As I said, I did get Hybrid emblems from my dealership at no cost. Rey Bustos, artist in sunny Ca.
  9. I got three Hybrid Synergy Drive emblems from a Prius(Lexus dealer in Glendale got them for me gratis) and they are on the sides and the back and they look great. I also got three "HYBRID" logotypes as well. I don't care if they're "Toyota",it's not a bad word ya know...and I love the fact that everyone knows my "Princess" is a hybrid...AND a LEXUS!. The add ons might only be noticed as add ons by Rx400h owners. No one that I know asked if they came with the car. Really... Rey Bustos,CA.
  10. I think that I found out the problem,at least it worked for me. I don't use the privacy cover in the back cargo area. Fine,so why a rattle I asked myself. Well it turned out that when I drove the car a few feet with the rear hatch open...no rattle. So for me it was that the little plastic locks for the privacy cover were back against the hatch and should be pushed forward towards the front of the car and away from the hatch, make sense? "Voila"! Rattle gone...well.... Then I had a different rattle...oh darn ( I didn't use that exact term..) what now?...well the new rattle seemed to be coming from the back seats. I finally found the problem and here's the solution...ready? The back seats when pushed all the way back create a tightening of the back of the seat, which actually vibrates at a cetain speed and rattles against the main portion of the seat...so by moving the seats forward a little the back panel attached to the seats loosens up and doesn't contact with the main seat so...voila#2! No rattle. I hope all of this makes sense. We paid too much for this great car for it to rattle! Rey
