  1. Maybe when rebates on American cars FAR exceed their purchase price, I may buy one. On second thought...nah....
  2. Lexus....and it's not even close, IMO.
  3. carfax reports aren't worth the paper they're written on.
  4. I think for $1400, Id go for the 2000. the 98 is a five speed, BTW. I do think if you looked you could do better though...I bought a pristine 98 with 98,000 on it for 10,500.
  5. They stopped making the Turanza LS-Vs? I just put a set on my LS a couple months ago. I can't imagine a better tire for this car at any price. That's too bad.
  6. It seems maybe just the slightest bit high, but not enough to be a deal breaker if you really want the car. I just bought a 98 with 98,000 miles...totally cherry....for $10,500. To me, $14,000 sounds about right.
  7. I've had my LS400 for a couple months now and have run into exactly ONE instance where a drink didn't fit in the holder. I can't believe this is such an issue.
  8. I love that after living with really noisy tires (they had cupped and are really noisy anyway) since I got the car a couple months ago,,,,when I put on great new tires today, I finally feel like I HAVE a Lexus. Whisper quiet and smoooooooth! Now for that alignment.....
  9. I was about to post about the exact thing. My 98 is really hard to launch smoothly from a dead stop. Then I feel a flat spot just before the 1 to 2 shift. So...this is normal for this car? Just changed timing belt and plugs and I was hoping that would make a diference, but it's excactly the same.
  10. Just wanted to bump this. The tires on this car are driving me insane. Anyone else have any suggestions? I put Yoko Avid T4s on my LHS and they seem pretty ok for a not real expensive tire. But I'd love to hear from others. Thanks.
  11. I, for one, am glad he posted. I need new ones too and wasn't about to pay that kind of money.
  12. usually about $50.00.. :whistles: sorry....had to do it...
  13. Thanks for the info. If anyone else has any plug or tires advice, bring it on! Now...ANOTHER question. The headlight lenses on my last car had yellowed/clouded really badly. On the LS they're still nice and clear. Anything I shood do to KEEP them that way? Thanks again!
  14. Hi guys! I was posting her last year when I thought I was getting an LS400. That one fell through, but a week ago I finally found one. It's a 98 in GREAT shape...98,000 miles. Of course, I totally love the car. Here's my question though. There's a slight flat spot upon light acceleration that I notice in low gear. Since the motor will be apart for timing belt anyway, we'll change plugs, etc too. (I don't know when it was tuned last). As far as plugs...do you REALLY have to use the Densos ($13 a piece locally). Has anyone used good ol Champs or Autolites? I also see Accel has plugs for the car. Also...the tires on the car seem all wrong.. Bridgestone Potenza 009s...they're noisy and a bit hard riding. So, suggestions on tires will be welcome too. Thanks in advance!
  15. I really love Zymol, although it's only good for 5 to 6 months. But it looks great and does great with imperfections...swirl marks, etc.
  16. Still looking at cars and have a question: what exactly is included in the Coach edition? This pertains to a 97. Thanks yet again.
  17. Yah...you're right about doing mostly highway driving. I guess I was just surprised by the handling. On a positive note, my mechanic will do the timing belt and water pump for around $600. I love this guy!
  18. Funny you should mention handling. I test drove a 99 yesterday...took it in a tight curving country road just to see how it was....and it was pretty damn scary. The car really doesn't inspire confidence. I'm sort of reconsidering now.
  19. Thanks everyone for the responses! This is exactly rhe kind of info I was looking for. This car does not have tha Nav...I don't think it has the premium sound either...although it still sounds great. It does have HID lights and heated seats. As for winter driving, this car is SO showroom that I would likely buy a beater for the winter. Thanks again....and keep it coming guys!
  20. HI all. I'm looking at a 98 LS400 with 85,000 miles. I'm new to Lexus and wanted to know if there are issues particular to this model year. The car looks showroom and drives perfectly. I should be able to get it under $13,000. I'm just curious about trouble spots for this year. All input will be appreciated. Thanks.
