I've got Bridgestone Turanzas on my LS400...great tire for much less than Michelin. I avoid Goodyear at all cost any more...too many bad experiences. You can likely get away with a lower speed rating unless you're an absolute maniac on the road.

Looking at a 99 GS300 and searching here for info about the Toyota sludge problem. So far all I'm seeing is that it's the ES V6 that is prone to it. Can anyone give more insight? (Recently got rid of a Chrysler sludger and don't want any more of that). Thanks.

I do know that carfax isn't the "be all end all"...just trying to get as much info as I can. The seller has an autocheck report, but there seems to be holes in it. And he has no service records. He claims the previous owner did the timing belt (along with a bunch of other stuff). So trying to find what I can as quickly as possible. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. The switch seems bad because in addition to the light not coming on, it doesn't have the positive "click" that the passenger's side one does.

Hi all. Looked at a 99 GS300 for the wife...decent shape. The are3 or4 interior wood trim pieces that have delaminted...in other words, the plastic-ey top coat has come off the wood. Anyone else run into this? Also....seems the switch for the drivers seat heater is bad. No big deal, I assume? Also I headlight (low beam) out. Just a routine bulb replacement? Thanks!

My 98 is at 117,000 and I wouldn't think twice about going across the country in it. Great cars.

My 98 idles at around 550-600 in gear with AC on. With AC off it drops to around 400.

So far so good with Bridgestone Turanzas....only about 15,000 on them though.

It's been about 14 months since I got my LS 400, and not one bit of trouble...NONE! That's MUCH longer than I've ever gone with other (American) cars...even new ones. These are truly wonderful machines! Just wanted to share.

It does bump up upon engaging. r134 . I will find out how much oil in system. Talked with mechanic he said compressor was full of oil and he added two ounces. He said he can try to add more if i want but he thought that would be enough. I want to know what you think. Air blows well, just that slight wine or humm when i turn on compressor. car seems harder to accelerate when the air is on. I will have him check pressure but he said he checked it and it was fine before he gave me the car back. I will also have to have it checked for the ground and amps. I had a reman on another car (not a Lexus) and it was noisy too and pulled the motor down a bit. Sounds like it's just a low quality reman.

yikes...I had the timing belt changed...new water pump and plugs for less than $600.
