  1. Two years ago, I got mine for $15 from Locksmith but the key didn't work all the time so I had to go back to Lexus dealer. (97 ES300) Just a remind for someone who hase only one key left ( I think you already know, Camlex ): Always have an extra key. Even a Lexus dealer need a programed key to program your new key.
  2. Thanks. I have 2 questions before starting the job in my 99 ES300: 1. After using the Craftman Bolt-out, will the screws still useable or I need new screws? 2. If I have to replace the screws or want to use bolts to make future job more easily, how can I find the correct size? Thank you!
  3. I tried this way and the problem came back. Replaced the strut mounts, the noise never come back for 3 years.
  4. Sorry. I was so busy that I didn't visit the forum for a long time. Just want to post some of my experience about my cold start problem. -- My Problems: In cold start, the engine was so noisy. The car jerk when shifting from R to D. -- What I Have Done but didn't help: Flushed the engine with Karosen; tried different brand of engine oil; used Toyota oil filter; used Seaform through throttle body, gas tank and engine oil; install new dog mount. -- My Lexus dealer said: There was nothing wrong after one hour checking and give an check engine light on (more about this later) -- My Experience: One day, I pick up a K&N filter to see how good it is. The problem almost gone: Less noisy in cold start. No more jerking when shift from R to D. I am not sure the new filter help me but after one NY winter, the problems didn't come back. -- Some more experience with a Lexus deler in NY state: When they gave me back my car, the check engine light turned on when I was on the way home. When I came back, they told me that they can reset to turn off the light but my Cartalic converter was gone so the light would come back very soon. They gave me a quote for about $3,000 to get it fixed. One year later, my car still running without any check engine light!!! Hope my experience can help some one.
  5. Last year, I used cheap ceramic pads and cheap rotors. The rotors gone within a year. I am not sure about the expensive ceramic pads with cheap rotors. Good luck!
  6. I live in NY. The Michelin Pilot Exaltos are ok for both winter and summer but they are not as quiet as the cheap Michelin Symmetry from Walmart. Good luck.
  7. Hi, I read in here that one of the way to remove the rotor is using two nuts to force to rotors out of the hups. Can you tell me what seze of those nuts, please! Also, where can we buy nut for Japanese cars? At my local auto part stores, they only sell nut in US standard size. Thanks,
  8. I bought a used 99 ES300 two years ago. My problem is the clinking noise from the front struts. Replace the strut mounts - no more noise. My car reachs 135k now. I still love it. Remember: 100k service at Lexus dealer is very very expensive. Good luck!
  9. Hi, If I want to use a bigger oil filter, then how to figure out the right size for my car? which one is good for a 99 ES300? Thanks,
  10. Hi, I have a 99 ES300. Can I have the price for all 4 struts + ship to NY, please! Thanks,
  11. - What is "cold start sensor?" I haven't heard people in this forum talked about it. - I have the same problem and I can't fix it. Someone here said it is normal. Pay $100 for Lexus dealer - They said the same thing. I hope it help.
  12. Hi, I just replace my 2 front strut mounts. When working on the front suspensions, I checked my struts: There is no leak. The ride still OK. The only problem is when press the struts all the way down ( compress it. ) It takes a long time, a bout a minute, for the strut return to it normal position. Is that indicate that the struts need to replaced? The ride still OK now ( or I get used to it? ) but if it indicate that the struts are worn out, replace it now will save me another alignment cost. Thaks,
  13. Hi, To fix the famous noise in my 99 ES, I order the parts from a well recomended website here. I ordered 2 front strut mounts with bearings, but I received only the mounts, not the bearings. From your experience, do we need to change the bearings when you replace your strut mounts? Thanks, Included is the picture of the strut mount with its bearing.
  14. It looks very nice!!!! So you have the answers. Can you post how the ride is, please!
  15. Hi, Are these following parts the same between Camry V6 and ES300? - Strut mounts. - Struts. - Rotors. - Brake pads. - Engine mounts. One example: The fornt strut mount: 52$ for Camry V6; 62$ for ES300. Are they the same? If they are, we can save some $$. Do you know any parts which are the same b/w them so that we all can save some $$? Thank you,
  16. Thanks, I also read somewhere in this forum that 215/55/15 is recomended to improve performance. But 3% different is too much or not?
  17. Hi, I have stock wheels (15) on ES300. I have Winter tires on them now so I am looking for another set wheel for Summer, instead of swap the tires. If I upgrade it to 17, I will loose some drive quality. But how much harsher ride will I get compare to the 15 stock wheels? Let grade the comfort of 15 wheel 100 points. How much you grade the 17 wheels with 215/50/17 good tires. Thanks,
  18. Hi Anewman, Are you still around in the forum? When you upgrade to 17, do you loose a lot of drive quality. How much harsher ride you get, compage to the 15 stock wheels? Thanks,
  19. Hi Backwoods lex, Universal from Autozone? I have never tried it. Will it work like the one design for the car? Do we have Check Engine Light if we use it? Let me know your experience, please! Thanks,
  20. Thank you, Toysrme! Since my car always jerk when put in D, tried a couple thing but it does not help, I bring it to the dealer. They said everything is OK, the shake I feel is normal. They see it in all the cars ( But my sister car, a 97 ES300, never have that shake?!) They told me that when scan the car, they figure out that the catalic converter is almost gone. If I want to replace, the cost is 1800 USD. I took the car back. Turn it on - No engine light on. But jus a couple minutes later, when I enter the highway, Check Engine Light On, also another one is TRAC OFF. I came back and ask them why. They bring the car to the garage. When they bring it back. The lights was gone. They told me that the Check Engine Light is b/c of the Catalic Converter. I think the code in their paper is P#04270 or P#0270 ( I am not sure. ) They told me that they just reset something so the Check Engine Light is gone for now. But it will come back later. They are not sure when it come back. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe for a long time. Since I used to drive an Audi, which has two catalic converter, I asked them which converter broken. They said the "Bank One." After checking a couple online Lexus store, I think there is only one Catalic Converter. Am I right? After all of that, I feel like there is something wrong in there service. I hope some friendly helpers here, can give an idea. Sorry for the long story. Thank you,
  21. Hi, If the check engine on with the Catalic Converter Code. Can the dealer reset so that the check engine light go away? Thanks,
  22. Hi, Lexus dealer charge me 100 USD/hr for the dianostic fee. I will have the result tomorrow. My question is if they charge us that much for the dianostic fee, do they sure that they have the right answers? What can we do if the problem still there after they fix the car? I often got my car fixed at a local mechanic so I don't have experience with this. I have to see them tomorrow, your experience is very apreciate! By the way, the problem with my car is "jerk when put the tranny in D with the cold engine." Post the problem here for a while, tried a couple things but did not help. Thanks,
  23. Thanks, So I know the right way to check the tranny fluid: Leave the car on. Is there something wrong in my car with the fluid level like this: -- When it hot: The car run a round for a few minutes then put it on P. Engine ON, Fuild level between COLD and HOT. -- When it cold: After I park the car over night, Fluid level still the same, between COLD and HOT.
  24. Hi. My car is 99 ES300. First, I have never seen a bad owner manual like the one for 99 ES300. On page 228, it says: -- Drain and refill: 4.75 L (5.1 qt.). How much fluid do you actual use to drain and refill your ES? -- Fluid Type: Automatic transmission fluid D-II or DESRON III (DEXRON II.) -- Dip stick says TOYOTA TYPE T IV. Second, can you tell me how to read the tranny fuluid level, please! -- The manual say turn engine on, ship to all level. Ship back to P. Check to level. It does not say I should leave the car idle or turn it off. -- In my car, if I leave the car on, the level is very low. It is lower then the COLD level. If I turn it off, it is higher then COLD but never reach HOT. But, if I leave the car over night, it still higher then the COLD level. It is almost the same level when I just turned the engine off. To flush out all the Valvoline I had put into the tranny (after reading the manual, before reading the Stick,) I have drain then refill 3 times. Each time I refill 3.5 qt. The stick kepp saying the same thing. Any help, please! Thanks,
  25. Hi, My car is 99 ES300. The ruber tube between PCV valve and Intake Manifold have some oil. I changed the PCV valve last year. -Do you know what cause it?
