  1. I've seen new Phillips 4300K bulbs on eBay for as little as about $60 each -- same bulbs that were OEM on your car. Read the small print though ... some people are selling used Phillips HID bulbs on eBay at similar prices.
  2. My favorite part of the autocoverup website is the following text at the bottom of the page: "Designed by: Fire Casinos :: In Collaboration with Funny Videos, Online Casinos, Casinos "
  3. You can review the differences in the model years at http://www.lexls.com/info/lsgenerations.html You can view the specs for each model year of the LS by modifying the year in this URL: http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/2000/2000LSspecs.pdf You should be able to easily get into a fairly low mileage 1998-2000 LS400 for $8,000 to $10,000 and maybe less. If I was selling my fairly loaded, minimally flawed 2000 LS400 (109,000 miles) today in a private party sale I would probably settle for $8,000 and change. Most people think it is best to avoid air suspension on all years of the LS400 and to avoid navigation on the 98-00 LS400. The 1995-2000 LS400 all have essentially the same body but you can get a lot more gizmos (HID, VSC, 5-speed auto trans, etc.) on a 98-up LS. The 2001-up LS430 has a bit more headroom and rear leg room and some neat features like in-dash cartridge-less CD changer
  4. The problem could also be a bad bulb with a loose filament that hasn't burned out yet, a bad ground, or a bad bulb socket. I had a similar problem on my previous 90 LS400 for over a year. I finally traced it down to a loose connection on a trailer light wiring harness that had been installed years earlier and which either vibrated or got pulled lose. I'd suggest changing all the back bulbs first -- especially if it has been over five years since they were changed ... they usually get blackened with age anyway. If that doesn't resolve the problem then look for a corroded ground or bad socket. I think it is fairly rare for the sensor to fail. I thought it was funny a few years back when another forum user reported a similar problem and I told him about my loose trailer wire harness. It turned out that he also had a loose connection in a trailer wire harness ... odd because so few LS400's are wired for trailer lights.
  5. Yes, it is true. Toyota and Lexus engines almost never need a valve adjustment. You just gotta love modern technology.
  6. I just noticed a thread on ClubLexus about eBay seller "factoryradios" in California charging $60 including return shipping to add an aux-in jack either to the front of older Lexus radios or to the back of radios with a cable running around to the front. Here is the ClubLexus thread: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/lexus-audi...ereo-w-aux.html Attached are photos from the eBay advertisement. I wonder if the guy could wire in a switch so that the aux cable wouldn't have to be unplugged to use the radio's FM. Sounds interesting.
  7. Welcome to the forum. One of the responsibilities of forum users is to try to provide sound advice -- whether or not others want to hear it. Trying to prevent someone from doing something dangerous to others is part of being a good citizen. Are you a good citizen?
  8. Do you have little lights in the driver and front passenger footwells or is that just in the IS sold in Europe. If you have footwell lights, the wires to them might be easy to tap into. The wires to the footwell lights in my LS are easily accessible.
  9. Webster's dictionary definition of the word "crime": "an act or the commission of an act that is forbidden or the omission of a duty that is commanded by a public law and that makes the offender liable to punishment by that law".
  10. This not just a comfort/convenience issue -- it is a safety issue. Do you want a mechanic to take your car for a test drive at highway speeds without him adjusting the seat so he can reach the brake pedal? You are the kind of person my attorney friends love. Seat memory has never been standard on the Lexus ES or IS or RX. It is not standard on the 2009 ES350: http://www.lexus.com/models/ES/detailed_specifications.html Seat memory was an option when my next door neighbor and I purchased our first LS cars -- it was an expensive option and both of us passed on it. I was surprised that the seat memory on the last Lexus dealer loaner car I had didn't even control the head rests -- they had to be manually adjusted buy pulling up or pushing down on them. It was an RX or ES -- don't remember which. I use a check list to ensure that cars I buy have the options I want. I literally verify that the car has each option and check the option off the list. I even keep a running check list planning for my next car purchase. You should also know that the "Premium Package" on Lexus cars is a lower level "first tier" option package -- it has always been that way. The Premium Package on the current IS350 includes only the following: "Premium Package with Additional Option $1,670.00 Premium Package includes: - Interior wood trim - Perforated leather-trimmed interior - Heated and ventilated front seats I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but it sounds like you had no idea about the car you purchased.
  11. Yes, Or the last digits of the key code ;) Remember, You only have 9 chances to decode. The security code could be anything. The cars that have an optional security code feature arrived from the factory with the security code feature disabled. When I set the security code - just for fun - on the 90 LS I had, I think I set the code to the numeric street I lived on in 1990 (149th Street = security code 1 4 9). I could have set it to anything ... the first three digits of my SSAN, etc. I ,like most people, disabled the security code feature on my radio. The feature was superfluous since these radios weren't worth stealing -- it was not like they would fit into anything but a Lexus. Since you know the VIN number of the car the radio came out of, you could visit your local Lexus dealer and ask the service manager (very, very nicely) to contact the previous owner of record and ask for the radio security code. When I bought my 2000 LS400 in 2003 from a non-Lexus dealer, the Lexus dealer contacted the previous owner for me to ask about some missing keys -- they were very courteous and helpful about it but I had bought a new LS from the same Lexus dealer in the past so maybe that was why they were so willing to help me. Or just pay the nominal fee to have the radio unlocked.
  12. Do you have more than one garage door opener, gate or other HomeLink device you could use with the HomeLink buttons in your Lexus? If you do, are the setting for more than one of your HomeLink buttons getting lost? Surely no one is accidently performing the reset procedure on your Lexus HomeLink buttens -- I think that requires holding the two outside buttons for a number of seconds. In the almost six years I've had it, the HomeLink buttons in my 00 LS400 have never lost there settings. But I also carry an extra remote in my console -- the three HomeLink buttons are not enough.
  13. What do you mean "that bar"? We have the same car and I don't see any "bar". You will have to remove the snap in trim between the battery and the headlight on the driver side and the duct work for the air intake on the passenger side. The trim between the battery and the headlight is held in place by only one plastic trim plug -- easily broken so be gentle.
  14. Ask the eBay seller for the security code. If he can't give it to you, you've been had and will have to have a Lexus dealer unlock it for you. Last I heard, Lexus dealers charge $50 - $100 for doing it.
  15. Suggestions? Contact Peripheral or the company that sold it to you. Somebody recently reported a similar problem on a similar VAIS interface device and VAIS told him that the product was defective and would be replaced at no cost. It is sounding like this is a common problem with this type of interface. Edit: Marketing BS on the Peripheral website appears to say that the steering wheel controls should work with their iPod interfaces: http://peripheralelectronics.com/
  16. There are two adjustment screws on the back of each headlight unit which are supposed to be turned the same number of turns when adjusting the headlights. Getting to the adjustment screws requires removing some trim, etc. in the engine compartment. The percentage of low beam declination is stamped on the top of your headlight units. The gas tank should be full when adjusting. It's a science to properly adjust headlights and especially critical on a car with HID headlights. The 2000 LS400 repair manual has details and drawings describing the adjustment procedure.
  17. Here is a link to info about the specs and options for your "new" 97 SC: http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1997/1997SCspecs.pdf
  18. You really want to disable your power seat? <_< So whats going on? Are you parking on the street with your car unlocked and random passersby sit in your drivers seat and change the seat position? I would think what you want to do would be a huge safety issue. What if someone has to drive your car ... like a mechanic, porter, parking lot attendent, family member, etc. and couldn't adjust to seat so he or she could drive your car safely. You want to be sued? Then there are the warranty issues. And what do you mean when you said that you noticed a few days after you purchased the car that it didn't have seat position memory? Were you blindfolded when you bought the car? Just when I think I've heard everything, then I hear something like this.
  19. This thread is for an earlier ES300: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...&hl=debadge Most Lexus cars have small holes in the trunk lid for pins on the back of the badges to fit into. For at least some model years, the "LEXUS" and "model" badges on GS cars are simply stuck on -- no holes. I don't know if the center "L" badge on the back of a GS has pins. I once had a Mercedes debadged when I had it at a body shop for other work ... the bodyshop filled the holes with lead and repainted the trunk lid.
  20. I'm not an electronics guy but why do you think there are separate pins on the amp for the cassette deck? Wouldn't all three media types (radio, CD, tape) share the same signal route from the head unit to the amp? A potential problem with using the method described in the link I posted is that cassette decks can make quite a bit of noise. Mine clicks like crazy -- probably worn out. Unless the cassette drive motors are defeated when tapping into the cassette deck to add RCA's, one would have to put up with the cassette deck noise.
  21. I'm attaching the 2004 LS430 safety recall notice for the transmission problem in case it is needed. 2004_LS430_transmission_recall.pdf
  22. I've seen several threads on Lexus forums on how to do this. Here is a recent one on ClubLexus http://www.clublexus.com/forums/lexus-audi...-aux-input.html but it is not the best method if seen ... I'll keep looking. The "best" method I've seen cuts the cassette drive motors and does not require the use of a cassette tape.
  23. Honestly? If you are willing to pay $23,000 you are getting close to getting into an 05 LS430 with mileage similar to the 03 LS you are looking at that is at 33,000 miles. Avoid the 2004 LS430 unless you are certain it is not subject to the transmission recall or if it has been recalled and fixed. In todays depressed market, $23,000 seems high for a 2003 LS430 with 33,000 miles. Exactly how are both cars equipped? What options? They had better be loaded at these prices.
  24. Why Would A 2000 Ls Burst Into Flames?, All of a sudden. I think a real answer could be: "Due to the owner splashing gasoline inside and lighting it with a match to collect on the insurance." Hmmm, this is giving me ideas...
  25. Some people have found that adjusting microphone volume can help: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...rophone++volume
