  1. Thank you so much for this excellent info. I'll go to them tomorrow and will post the results here. Many thanks again, What was the result?
  2. I disagree. The update is worth it. The major update is the POIs (points of interest) I live near Atlanta and I have driven cars with Version 3.1, which is the stock '04 nav disk, and a version 4.1. Version 4.1 had many more POIs and made it possible to find what I wanted. I also travel a lot. I drive as far north as New York City and as far South as Miami. Roads do change, or I should say get added. The update makes a difference. If you don't travel then maybe its not for you but if you do travel it is worth it. If you buy it, definetly get it direct from Lexus; for peace of mind and recourse if there is a problem. As for he brown interface... I like it.
  3. Insist on Lexus Parts and if they won't do it take it to Lexus of Clearwater. If they won't deal you could just order the bumper yourself and take it to a shop of your choice and let them paint it.
  4. You could read the reply to the word for word exact question on Club Lexus Forums. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showpost.p...amp;postcount=2
  5. You did absolutely no damage. All you did was prevent the car from going into overdrive. The car will shift normally through all gears except 5th (overdrive). The only thing you did was burn more gas.
  6. Should be doable. Get the Gen 4 or 5 NAV ECU and put it in. The new ones already have the 5.1 update. If the connectors are a little different you can re-pin them.
  7. To avoid any confusion. The 2004 RX330 has a Generation 2 or 3 NAV. The most current generation is Gen 5. The CD-ROM for the NAV comes in different versions for the different generations. The most current Version for all the Gen 2-5 NAVs is Ver 5.1. Now, you can only use gen 2/3, ver 5.1 disks in a Gen 2/3 NAV. So the discs are specific to the generation and will not cross from one to the other. The part numbers for the same version are different depending on the generation. If you want to change the generation the immediately obvious changes are the NAV unit in the trunk. Then you will have to add the buttons on the steering wheel for the bluetooth phone functionality. 8. Just a quick reply for now. I removed my roof rack before a 400 mile trip today. I can't I noticed any significant MPG increase. The noise was reduced however and washing the roof is easier. One thing to note, if you take the rack off completely as I did, make sure you seal up the holes with RTV or other reliable sealant. If you dont water will leak in. As for the holes in the plastic trim where the rack goes though, I'm ordering new trim to fix that. I'll post pics and a little write up if onyone is intersted.
  9. Did you try to hard reset the NAV ECU? Can't break it much more by trying it. The procedure is found here? Navigation Error: Incorrect Program Disk, Be careful of the buttons you push...
  10. The dealer can tell you what areas have been updated. The POI symbols let you know if its a town, restaurant, shopping, gas and so on.
  11. You pulled the ECU and performed the proceedure outlined in Post #8 above?
  12. Here is the text from the above link to reset the nav. I cut and pasted it here incase the data is lost at the other site. This reset was done on the Prius but the Navs are very similar. Howto to rest NAV. WARNING: Attempt this at your own risk!!! I take no responsibility for misinterpretation of these instructions which may lead to permanent damage to your NAV ECU or yourself. However, since you got this far in "breaking" your NAV, you're probably brave enough to fix it too! Steps: Pull NAV ECU: Its located in the rear hatch. Remove rear plastic cover. Remove 4 8mm/philips screws, 2 on each side retaining ECU. Remove 4 harness connectors. Open NAV ECU, perform "fix": Remove 8 screws from the bottom of the ECU. Cover is held in place by 1 tab on each side that fits around a small bump on the top cover. Using a small flathead screwdriver, spread the cover at the bump. The ECU cover should then tilt up and come right off. With the plugs at the front, the left board is the NAV logic, and the right appears to be the AVC-LAN interface and power supply. There is a ribbon cable separating the two. These boards should lift right out, as the cover screws are holding them in place. At whichever location is easiest, lift the retaining clip at one end of the ribbon cable connecting the power supply board to the "logic" board, then gently pull the ribbon cable free. This effectively disconnects the battery backup from the ECU. I also spotted a black momentary switch on the power supply board. This may also be a reset/backup power interrupt, however being a multi-layer board, I couldn't easily follow the traces to double-check. For safe measure, I press and held this for a few seconds as well. Re-insert the ribbon cable, ensuring that it's aligned correctly. Push the retaining clip back down to secure the cable. Replace the boards, ensuring that the boards fit onto the alignment tabs. The power supply board was a bit tricky here. Replace the cover. I found that securing the screws over the power supply board first helped to keep it aligned as mine wanted to pop out of place. Replace the ECU, reversing the steps of removal. Power on. You'll see on the NAV screen: Loading application, do not power off. I then saw the "Agree" screen. Success! You'll need to restore all of your map points, but that's a minor inconvenience compared to the cost of a new NAV unit or a dealer visit. Hope this helps anyone else who was unfortunate enough to see what "loading" did.
  13. Take it to the dealer and get them to repair it under warranty. Tell them it just started acting up. Other than that I'd say you are going to have to reset the nav. Read this post, easily found with search feature, Navigation Error: Incorrect Program Disk
  14. I get wood when I drive my Lexus and I know its real.
  15. Because my wife said, "I want the RX330". The only other one I would have considered is the Acura MDX.
  16. You can go to: http://www.techinfo.lexus.com/public/main/...s/whatstis.html Once you subscribe (rates below) you can download the entire manual. It will take all day to do it because it is broken down into many smaller PDFs. There are also othe manuals and TSIBs on there as well. Daily $10.00 US Monthly $50.00 US Yearly $350.00 US
  17. Can anyone post a picture of the label of the generation 2 and 3, version 5.1 Nav update?
  18. Yeah, you could probably do it for $2000. More like $2500- $3000. Find a good local installer.
  19. Thats why I asked how much do you want to spend. Any good installer can do this. An advanced DIYer can do it too. Crutchfield's guides are aimed at the casual DIYer.

  21. I say, always start with the simple and cheap stuff first. Get the tires balance checked. A number of things happen as tires get older. First, the balance changes as the rubber wears down which will cause a harmonic shaking at certain speeds. When you put on the brakes that shaking will transfer to the steering wheel. The very first thing I would do is check the balance. Second, the wheel could have thrown a weight. Check the balance. Third, if you use gas station air filling stations you could have introduced water into the tires. Gas stations don't usually have good water removal filters on these stations and you can actually pump water vapor and drops into the tire. This will cause the tire balance to change as the tire rotates, it will never balance. A good tire changer will recognize this and the only way to fix it is to remove the tire and wipe out the water. If the balance checks good then I would proceed to looking at the rotors. Of coarse, if you get new tires you will start with a freshly balanced set and water free.
  22. You read this thread http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...topic=29792&hl= Read it again. It tells you what generation have you have. You want update 5.1 for a Generation 2 and 3 Nav.
  23. Brakes are meant for stopping, use them. Transmissions, especially automatics, aren't designed to be used as brakes. Would you rather spend over $2k to get a new transmission or a few hundred every few years to get you brakes done?
  24. Sell it on Ebay. You'll most likely get back what you paid for it.
