  1. If you'd really like it to disappear take it to a good body shop. The scratch must be prepped and then filled with multiple layers of touch up paint. Then lightly sanded with 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit sand paper. Finally, it is buffed and polished. The autobody guys do this all the time, have all the stuff and can do it faster and better than most people. If you still want to do it yourself another source for touch up paint is your local autobody paint supply store. They can mix up a batch based on your paint code or you can take off your gas door and they can match it to that.
  2. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=22934 post #19 You were a part of this thread. The answer is right above your post. Why did you repost here?
  3. Thats was my point as well. I don't think it's a VSC issue either. I think its more of a driving style issue. Edit - Unless the flash didn't take? Maybe the dealer didn't flash the car correctly.
  4. Isn't a buzzer supposed to sound when the VSC is activated? I also added the VSC theory from Lexus. CH_84_brake5.pdf CH_80_VSC.pdf
  5. Maybe its a driving style issue. I tend to drive with passengers and therefore I driver as smoothly as I can for thier comfort. That means smooth even application of the accelerator and brakes and smooth inputs to steering. Its not a sports car. Since the flash, I have not noticed the jolt. I'm still always evaluating it when I drive, looking for the jolt and I don't notice one and niether does my wife.
  6. Booyah, yes it was an '06. I don't remember what the real button said. I was just know there is now a real button in the lower right corner.
  7. Got the ECM flashed last weekend. After driving it around on the city and the highway I can say things are much better. The response from a dead start is immediate, there are no more jolts and the highway mile seems a littler better. I can't see or feel any downside. Additionally, it improved the flakey cruise control. I set it for 85 and it didn't downshift all the time while going up gentle hills.
  8. I went to the dealer and tried the GPS override. You can't do it the old way because there is now a real button where the old hidden button was. If anyone figures out or knows how to override the new update please post it.
  9. All the Lexus dealers in my area install the Reese Hitch. It is not a factory option it is a dealer option. The hitch weighs between 50-75 pounds and will not hurt your gas milage. The tube does wrap around under the exhaust and doesn't hang down lower than any other part of the undercarriage. The whole unit rest snuggly under the bumper.
  10. I can't think of a single "desprate" reason to go 110 MPH in any highway vehicle in the US. Unless you are running from the police. Now, why would you need to do that? Are you racing an RX330 at the local track? I suspect not. The safer cars become the more unsafely people drive them. The highways aren't NASCAR tracks and you aren't a NASCAR driver. Do you really want to drive fast? Spend $400 bucks at the California speedway or other local speedway and you can take a Winston Cup car up to 165 MPH... if you can handle it.
  11. See attached TSIB below. I don't see how you can't like it. It has to be better than the way it is now. But, worse case they would have to give you a new ECU with the original setting on it. For $10 and a day with nothing to do you can get all the TSIB info and the complete manuals at http://www.techinfo.lexus.com/
  12. I can't believe I missed this thread before. I'm taking mine in this weekend. The TSIB TC005-03 states: To improve the transmission shift feeling during specific operating modes, the Engine Control Module (ECM) (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM) calibration has been revised. These improvements include: -Reduced downshift lag when accelerating at speeds from 10 to 20 mph. -Less gear hunting when driving on/off accelerator pedal at 20 to 30 mph (for example: during heavy rush–hour traffic). -Improved response rate during heavy acceleration from a stop. Applicable Warranty*: This repair is covered under the Lexus Federal Emissions Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 96 months or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date. * Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer’s specific complaint. That describes exactly what I feel.
  13. With all the money spent to get one of these cars I don't see why people can't spend $10 and some time on the techinfo.lexus.com and get the manual. Flame away!
  14. My main concern with the update is will I still be able to do the GPS override so the person in the passenger seat can use all the functions of the Nav while we are in motion. For those that don't know how the GPS override is done: 1. With car on, in PARK or fully stopped, press MENU. 2. Press DVD (upper right corner) 3. There are hidden buttons on this screen. Use the fat part of you index finger not the tip for best results. In order press a. Upper Left Corner b. Lower Left Corner c. Upper Left Corner d. Lower Left Corner e. Lower Right Corner 4. You should now see a screen with 2 columns of 4 buttons. Locate the GPS button 5. Press and hold for 5 seconds. It will beep one and then turn green 6. Press the BACK button in upper right hand corner 7. Now you can use all the NAV functions while in motion. When you turn the car off the NAV will reset to normal and you will have to do this procedure again when you restart the car.
  15. Mine automatically scrolls. If you were on a station that was broadcasting RDS and then switched to one that doesn't the old message will stay on the display. Pushing text repeatedly doesn't clear it.
  16. I did the search. Is there any hard documentation for this? I feel better having hard documentation, otherwise if thay say no you are SOL. Do I just call Lexus or go to the dealer?
  17. 90 dBm!? Since the dBm is used for measuring electrical signal strength I'll assume you meant dB. A constant 90 dB is like a running lawnmower! Is it really that loud? My RX is a louder than I would like, but not that loud. I would suspect the mud and snow tires. They aren't designed to be quite and some tires much noisier than others. On my Camry I switched to Yokohama AVIDs and it made a huge difference in sound. They don't make those tires in a size 18 so I'm searching for a new quiet tire for the RX.
  18. Only if you need a bigger engine, or if you're the kind of person that must have the latest, greatest and biggest a carmaker offers.
  19. I'm gonna say check the balance. Rotate like booyah said and see how it feels. Out of all the things on your front end the tires are what wear the fastest and therefore changes the most. It is also the chaepest and easiest to fix. I had a tire that gave me fits because the balance was always changing. The cause was water in the tire. It got there from using the air pump at the gas station that didn't have a water trap.
  20. Thanks for the replies. I'm taking the car in on friday. Tomorrow morning I'm also going to check the tire pressure. This vehicle seems very sensitive to it.
  21. First event occurred prior to sunset on 14 November. The temperature was in the 50’s and dry. While driving straight and level at approximately 45 MPH the slip indicator light and buzzer came on. There were no other lights or symptoms. After 5-10 seconds the light and buzzer went out by themselves. Second event occurred on 13 December at ~7:45PM. The outside temp was ~38 degrees F and dry. While driving 45MPH down a gradual hill with a slight left turn I felt a vehicle pulse once and heard a dull thud. It felt like the front left brake pulsed on. 3 or 4 seconds later it happened again immediately followed by the slip indicator light and buzzer turning on. Only the slip indicator and buzzer came on. The light and buzzer remained on for about 5-6 seconds until I put the vehicle in neutral and turned the ignition off. I restarted the vehicle 1 second later and everything was back to normal. Any ideas befrore I take it in for service?
  22. Keep in mind that this is a Japanese vehicle with a manual written by a Japanese company. It was probably first written in Japanese and then translated to English. For example the manual says of the SNOW ECT button, "USE THIS MODE WHEN STARTING YOUR VEHICLE IN ICE AND SNOW". Some could misunderstand this to mean actually turning the car on. A better translation would be, "USE THIS MODE WHEN ACCELERATING YOUR VEHICLE IN ICE AND SNOW FROM A STAND STILL" For more examples of bad translation check out Engrish.com
