  1. I looked at mine today. The Lexus Enform logo came up but only for maybe 3 seconds then went to the screen that begs you to Continue When I put it in reverse the screen goes right to the rear view
  2. All of those tech guys have iPhones. Do a facetime with them so you can show him the problem live. Saves a lot of driving.
  3. Oh yeah, Larry, Nice to have you on the LOC. Great site to learn stuff about Lexus. Denny
  4. I always though the back up camera over rode everything in reverse? I do see the Lexus logo but it goes away in a few seconds. There are so many settings that I spent an hour with the Lexus tech guy and still learned stuff after a year. Call the tech guy at a Lexus dealer, from what I see, they talk for free.
  5. These are special engines. The highly desired 4 Cam 32 valve V-8 featuring a 6 bolt main bearing. As others said, they don't just run and stop and be dead without noise and smoke. Is the mechanic a professional or shade tree?
  6. Great point with the hoses. They are on the front so the wheel can turn and get old and crusty. I've seen many a car fail state inspection because of cracks in these hoses. On the back there isn't any, just a straight connection. I always used the helper method because when I first started bleeding brakes, there wasn't vacuum bleeders. I suppose I should get the system now. And yeah, most original brake fluid goes to the boneyard with the car.
  7. Jerzey John, if the pistons stuck it's pretty likely that the caliper is about shot. See if there is a Bap-Geon store near you and get an AISAN caliper. They are the exact same as factory and I paid around $100 for one. Piece of cake to change.
  8. Hate when that happens. Put in a new bulb and make sure it seals. Water shorts out stuff. If there is water inside the lens, you need to get it out. Use a shop vacuum and suck as much as you can out. Use your fabrication skills to fashion a hose attached to the vacuum hose. Then after you get as much moisture out as you can, squirt some alcohol (rubbing, not drinking kind) inside. The alcohol will absorb moisture and evaporate. I sometimes use a hair dryer to accelerate the process. These bulbs can be very difficult to insert correctly. Many a good cuss word has been wasted on bulb installation. Not like the old days. I recommend paying very close attention to how it comes out and observe the notches and all. Hey, welcome to the LOC. Denny
  9. The brake pads slide on caliper pins which need to be greased once in awhile. If you don't, they can hang up and put extra compression on the rotor. Not a huge deal unless they hang up hard engaged in which case you can quickly overheat your brakes. My Nissan is known for this however never had it with any of my Toyota vehicles. Being proactive, always a good idea to grease the slide pins. Many mechanics, both regular and shade tree, skip this important step.
  10. You DO get what you pay for don't you.
  11. Move to the northeast. Your problem is that you are in California where it is always sunny. In the northeast it is about always cloudy so you won't have the problem. ;)
  12. Like the NFL, I believe you'll need indisputable video evidence to overturn the ruling. Brakes are duel systems which would require a catastrophic failure upon which the brake would not be functional. My guess is that while you're sure you hit the brake, the only pedal around there that has the mechanical ability to go to the floor is the accelerator. It happens so don't beat yourself up over it all.
  13. While all of that SHOULD be done, you'll never recover even half of what you'll spend. I'd only do that if I intended to keep the car. Transfer the responsibility ( and the expense) of making sure it's safe to the dealer whom you trade it in to. Every price was way high as expected at dealerships and they can do all that for 1/4 what they quoted you.
  14. Assuming money isn't an issue I'd probably go for the 2015. Very nice and an excellent replacement for the Honda. Of course with the LS430, not a chance I'd let that go. We had a 1990 LS400 for 12 years and both my wife and I swear that it was the best driving car we ever drove. My 2004 ES330 drives like other boring front wheel drive cars. Maybe a little nicer but still boring. My 2014 IS250 AWD drives really nice but not as nice as the LS400 did. For the few things wrong, I'd certainly fix them, put some well researched tires on and keep going. Finally IF you decide you are going to let it go, you should post it on here so we all get a crack at it. Denny
  15. Whew, had us worried for a second there. Most ATF sold now is universal. I always found it rather strange that Toyota uses Dextron in the power steering and not in the transmission.
  16. There is a buy and sell section, so there would be the place. I'd probably also add current milage and $
  17. I know what you mean. The cases on the keyfob for my 04 ES330 both came all apart from wear. I went to the dealership and ordered two new cases with the keys and they transferred the electronic module out of the broken cases, into the nice new cases. It did take several days as they have to be ordered and cut. I think they were a couple hundred dollars for them but they are something you do need so...
  18. Very perceptive Malcolm. The answer is no, it was not intended that way because the break in thing is so old school, I didn't consider that. Ha, never know what to expect do you? A Lexus really is just broken in by a buck though. In all seriousness you'll have to decide if you want the car to go another 100,000 without issues. If so, do them all, if not be more selective. And a big welcome to "The Club" as it is both fun and informative. Nice to have you here. Denny
  19. Thanks Becki, Lots of pictures on file :)
  20. $1.63 at Costco in Norfolk. Seems nobody itching anymore.
  21. Oh. Just thought about it and if you want a USB port, get one of those small cigarette lighter plugs. Plug the USB in right there. Amazon has them.
