  1. Not you guys, just me. And not all are guys so. All of those parts are cheap so replace them all, including the belt. Serpentine belts are pretty well know for squeaks and different brands are better and worse. Of course it would be kind of nice to know who you are and your 20 At least make up a name and place if you are reserved. People like people. Denny
  2. Hey Nate, no, that is high like in 3rd gear. Check the overdrive button on the transmission shifter. On the other dude in Hawaii with the crapped out air suspension. Go to a junkyard and buy the original suspension out of the same year as yours. They never wear out and you ain't building a watch.
  3. Speaking of naming. Just saw a sweet IS250C in a nice darker teal color. Never seen a 250C in the new body style though. My car is named "my race car" Silverado is "Big Blue" after Old Dominion. Corolla, RAV4, ES330, Frontier have no names.
  4. You are talking about the one inside the console right? Actually a powerport. I had a gum wrapper that someone (I suspect my wife) left in the console in my ES330. Seen other with pennies getting in there. I have the same car and I find the lack of a 12v outlet outside of the console annoying.
  5. Probably shouldn't admit this but I learned more from the students than they learned from me. Not saying that I wasn't effective but if you are one of those people that can absorb the input from about 100 students per day for over 30 years then you understand what I mean. You learn quite amazing things. I was lucky and was able to teach real life skills and along with that the values that must be added to those skills in order to achieve the higher levels of success. While students were sanding wood or working working on a Power Point presentation, I was able to insert things such as the value of Roth IRA's for the youngest people. The value of military service (Hampton Roads is a huge military area so many of our students go on to serve). Understanding tires and tire selection with an emphasis on deciphering the coding on tires then using online resources like Tire Rack or Discount to select and purchase (well, fantasy purchase) replacement tires for one of their parents vehicles. The history of National Parks in America. How to paint. How to change an outlet. How to drive a nail. The list could go on volumes. Regular teachers (or "core" teachers as we called them) are in a really bad situation. What in the past was creative and inspiring learning has transposed into teaching from cue cards and then expecting even the most handicapped or environmentally deprived child to pass tests at the same level as privileged children. Meanwhile, back at the board room, our duly elected officials whine and moan about the school budget and have denied teachers and staff any significant raises in over a decade. Oh, not just teachers, oh no. I have several friends who are cops, EMS, firefighters, ditch diggers, custodians you name it. Not much for a long long time. Meanwhile our city officials are working on a plan to build a $300 Million train that should pay for itself in about 300 years (based on Norfolk's success with the same deal. Ah, life in the city. Tomorrow (well, I guess today) is suppose to be a really nice day so I am looking forward to taking my race car out for a drive. Might even see if I can get the oil changed. Denny
  6. From experience, I do know that it is possible to install the belt one notch off which makes it rub and squeak. I seriously doubt that any of the pulleys are misaligned. Seems to me they would self destruct long before they lost alignment. Just make sure that the belt isn't off by one rib. Happens to the best of them. Probably a good idea to put a new one on as well. Welcome to LOC by the way.
  7. I just had them shut off the satellite radio in both my IS250 and RAV4. after I signed up at the end of my trial period, I realized that Howard 100 and other stations didn't work? I called and they said I had the "XM" package. Well the XM package is pretty much useless as it misses many stations. I now use either Amazon Prime music or Pandora or just play one of the 3,000 songs on my iPhone. I still have a Sirius portable unit I can take from car to car or inside to my Sirius box. While I like the satellite service on Sirius, their billing and customer service is a nightmare as they are always switching packages and prices. Once they get your credit car, they will bill you relentlessly. The trail period on my IS250 expired while I was in Hawaii. The morons called me every morning at 3AM to renew. I asked them NOT to call and they said it takes up to a week to remove a number from the call list. Well after the 4th 3AM call, I went off on the completely and I do have a nasty mean streak so things went south quickly.
  8. My 2013 Toyota RAV4 LTD only has an idiot light as far as I can tell. I really like the ability on my IS250 to be able to call up the exact tire pressures at any time. Kind of interesting to see how the PSI increases as you heat up the tires.
  9. "I blame the school system for not teaching the basic operations of a vehicle. With so many people living in apartments now, a vehicle is probably their biggest investment. There should be some knowledge of it" SOME schools and SOME teachers do actually teach about cars. I taught in the electives where there was more freedom to teach. In the academic areas, the suits are all into the testing and care about little else. Suits+Tests=Dumb Kids
  10. My neighbor has an earlier RX300. Both of those lights have been on in that car for over a decade. Nothing bad has happened.
  11. On my 2014 IS250, I am able to see the exact tire pressure for each tire on the display. Given in PSI of course.
  12. Slightly annoyed? Wish I could help but the only piece of an idea I have is the fuel pump. Many times when fuel pumps are going, they are very slow to deliver fuel and it takes a lot of cranking. My Silverado got to the point where I thought it would ruin the starter. Not saying this is your issue just an experience I had.
  13. Some of the early LS400 cars had air suspension. Probably fantastic when new but like any other bag, they eventually leak. I know people have switched to conventional but not sure what it encompasses. I do know I often see 1990> LS400's in the junkyard so I would think the parts are readily available and inexpensive. Of course you would also learn how to remove the parts on a junk car, not your own. If you bought that 91 with only 60,000 miles for $1900, you about stole it anyway. Nice find.
  14. Obviously a wonderful idea. Can't see any reason to disagree with this idea.
  15. It did not sound like a ventilation servo issue to me either. I am going on a reliable source I know. Sounds more like a clicking noise actually.
  16. IF you have good tools and a good place to work then you could. Of course it is probably a good idea to watch several videos on the procedure before starting. It is imperative that you use quality safety stands to do this or you could die or be a para. Go to a junkyard and remove the same (undamaged) part from a scrapper. Not only is this the cheapest method but you will have the benefit of now knowing HOW to remove the part. You can't damage a car at a junkyard. Or.... Buy the new lower control arm with the new ball joint attached and install. I do know you need special tools for this job but I also know Auto Zone will lend them to you for free. Not a terribly difficult job other than the muscling of parts. IF you take it somewhere expect to pay between $500 and $800 to have it done for you. Good luck with the rig. Denny
  17. Best of luck with it Byron. Hopefully it works out for the best. In my case, a Toyota dealer converted my 90 LS400 to R-134A from the original R-12 and it worked for a few months but then it blinked again and made terrible noises the hot air. Everyone (I had 3 estimates) said the compressor destructed internally and sent metal throughout the system. Cost to fix? (sit down) $2500. I drove it for 9 months a year for 3 years then sold it for $2500 to a friend who doesn't mind heat. Denny
  18. You probably won't like what I have to say BUT, when the A/C light blinks it means the compressor is having problems. I doubt the clutch would cause this light to flash although I have been wrong before.
  19. Too bad they don't use Apple systems in their cars. That way people wouldn't have to understand folders and fat things.
  20. Sure you can change the guts.I ordered new cases for my ES330 when the plastic on both keys cracked. You will need to have Lexus cut the new key since the plastic part is attached to the key part. Cost is around $200 at Lexus.
  21. My 2004 ES330 does the same thing. Sounds like a clicking or something from around the dash area. Apparently it is a servo for the ventilation doors that hangs up. It is annoying if the radio is off. Been like this for several years and nothing bad has happened yet.
  22. Perhaps it is working properly. The advanced airbag systems probably will not fire unless a certain weight is on the seat. This is done to prevent children and small adults from getting killed by them. Although it is possible, I doubt your wife (or anyone's) could not have enough weight to activate the system.
  23. and of course, WELCOME to the Lexus Owners Club. A place where we learn things, save time, money and frustration while enjoying the company of others in the same boat. Denny
  24. Changing bulbs on newer cars is frustrating without a doubt. Luckily, on Lexus vehicles the system is fairly easy to disassemble. The key to success in this is to understand how it is assembled prior to beginning the operation. There are several videos that show the exact sequence. I know I made one for the early LS400 cars which are about the same. Basically you have to remove the entire headlight assembly which isn't as difficult as it sounds. Of course the easiest way NOT to screw up your car is to go to a junkyard and practice on wrecks. Being in Delaware, I know there are lots of junkyard since I drive through the state frequently. The eastern shore is also filled with yards. The first side will take you an hour, the second less than 15 minutes. Of course you should change all bulbs while you're in there. Small wonder. Denny
  25. I did this on one of my vehicles. I tapped into the lighter lead. In Virginia hard wired detectors are better since the unit itself can be hidden and the remote display placed in a discreet, yet observable location. I would also include a separate OFF/ON switch so as to be able to to turn it off. You do not want the cops seeing your detector. Of course the simplest way is to use the new app from Valentine on your iPhone. It is a new item from Valentine Research which I plan to explore.
