  1. Width was no problem for me with a 3 car garage but height was very close. When I bought the GX I was not even thinking about it till I got it home. It cleared the metal beams on the door by less than one inch, Better remember to never have it in the high position when I pull in
  2. Myself and my brother both bought 05's last Spring and neither of us have had any "Clunk". By far the best vehicle I have ever owned. Had first big snow storm yesterday and I was very impressed with how it handled terrible conditions. That all wheel drive system is a huge improvement over my past 4-runners.
  3. I would advise getting the KDSS it really does work. My brother and I both bought 2005's a few weeks apart and he did not get the KDSS. He has driven mine and says he notices the difference and wishes he had got it. He is even thinking of trading in for a 2006 because of this. Also I really like the sport package, The smoked lights look better than clear and like the Black Birds eye and graphite combo, Looks very sporty.
  4. "Power ratings are down slightly for '06, to 263 horsepower and 323 pound-feet of torque, but that's only because the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has instituted new test procedures that tend to deliver more conservative numbers. The engine itself, and its performance, have not changed. The 2006 GX 470 is every bit as powerful as the 2005 model. " http://www.nctd.com/review-intro.cfm?Vehic...0&ReviewID=1754
  5. I got $2,500 off on my 2005 that had about same sticker as yours. try for about $4,500 and settle for no less than $2,500. But whatever you do, buy it. Best vehicle I ever owned
  6. Keep the GX and get rid of the Wife? But seriously the GX is probably not the best SUV for an elderly couple. Would be better for her to have something smaller like a Volvo or Subura 4 wheel drive.
  7. Even with my compatible Motorola phone it does not allow you to transfer whole phone book at once, you must transfer one number at a time. Does seem to be a little bug in the Lexus system as have seen here that this is happening with all phones.
  8. Here you go right out of Websters: enthusiast (noun) : a person filled with enthusiasm: as; a : one who is ardently attached to a cause, object, or pursuit <a sports car enthusiast>; b : one who tends to become ardently absorbed in an interest Notice they even use sports car as an example. Not saying there are no enthusiasts here, as we must be to be here, Just that in the big World most Lexus SUV owners are not what I would describe as "enthusiasts"
  9. For one reason, this car is not widely produced as some other models. Second, there's not alot of problems, which I am glad. ← Not widely produced? Could have fooled me as I see a few every day in my daily 5 mile commute . Never saw one other Maserati in the year plus of owning and that board has quite a bit of action. Most car forums are for enthusiast and I don't really think too many Lexus owners are real enthusiasts.
  10. I have the Sport Package which includes the KDSS suspension and I have the Ivory seats but has the black upper trim. I like the contrasting two tone look that would have cost a few thousand extra to get on my Maserati. After driving numerous SUV's over the years the first thing I noticed on my GX was almost no body roll at all when going around a corner at a high rate of speed. My brother also bought a GX less the KDSS and his does have some body roll but still it was better than past SUV's I have driven
  11. I have KDSS and find if anything the steering is a little loose for my taste. My brother and I both bought 2005 GX's and he did not opt for the Sport so no KDSS, We have switched a couple times and he agrees that the KDSS is amazing at going around corners and curves with almost no body roll. I liked the color of the Sport interior, The Black eye gives it a more sporty look to the Golden Eyes more Luxurious look. Also like the darker smoked rims, Headlights and back lights. Then again my brother likes his look, So I guess it's a matter of choice. The other thing he did like better on mine was the exhaust tip and for about $70 we bought one at Lexus and put on in about 5 minute. We both love the GX and neither have had a single complaint yet. P.S Seems like a great price, Mine cost $53,000. And that was after getting screwed on my trade in
  12. Nice grill guard Tex, Went and checked out their site. They say its a simple bolt but I have been fooled in the past. Was it really easy to put on? Thanks in Advance
  13. About the only grill guard I have come across for the GX is this one. Was wondering if anybody has put one on, Or would ones offered for 4runner fit? 14. agree with Jugdish, If My GX gets a little clunk It would not change my opinion of what is by far the best SUV I have ever owned. Have been waiting years for an SUV that offers the Comfort, Luxury, Sport and true off road ability that the GX gives me. Both me and my brother have March 2005 builds and neither of us have had any issues including the clunk as of yet
  15. I know I did terrible on my deal. Sticker on mine was a little over $56K for 2005 w/Sport Package, NAV/ DVD and 3rd row. Got $3,000 off sticker but they gave me only $60,000 for my 1 year old Maserati Spyder that I paid over $90,000 for. They swore that is all a wholesaler would give for the car and that they would not put it on the their lot. Low and behold the next day they had the car in the newspaper for $69,900 I heard they got around $66,000 for it. So yes I really feel I got screwed. What was also funny was they actually owed me about $7,000 and when I picked up the GX they told me a check would be mailed out in a few days. Doubt I could go get a car and tell them I will get a check to them in a couple of days. But am loving the GX, So who really cares?
  16. Every time I come to a stop I am now waiting to hear a bump, None yet on my 2005 March build with a little over 500 miles. Was this more of a problem with 2003-2004's? Am curios to hear if any 2005 owners have had the problem. I bought mine after my brother bought his and neither of us have had a single issue as of yet.
  17. Have had my March 2005 build GX for almost 2 months now and find it to be a nearly perfect vehicle with none of the problems I have read about. After owning many Toyotas over the years I expected the Lexus to be great and am not disappointed at all. Past couple of cars were Porsche, BMW and Maserati and had numerous problems with all them and all lacked the comfort and toys of my GX. So far am very happy with my choice
  18. Beat you all, I just traded in 2004 Maserati Spyder for my GX. And not missing it a bit. If you don't track a Sports car it is kind of a waste of money. Nice to ride in comfort and feel the GX has more power than I need
  19. :( not quite. it's when ur at a stoplight and the self leveling rear suspension adjusts itself (for whatever reason) and when at certain heights, it will cause the "thump" . actually u can create the thump urself. first drive and stop at the light. then adjust ur suspension to "high" and while it's goin up, u should feel the "thump" at certain times. same thing, if ur backing up from somewhere and u adjust the suspension to either high or low, it would cause the thump. so my conclusion is that the "thump" is from the rear suspension that constantly changes height positions at times. <_< ← I noticed that there is an off switch next to the height control, If you shut off would that prevent the vehicle from constantly adjusting?
  20. This is always a funny, heated, emotional and/or personal discussion. Kind of like s*x and religion. There will always be someone who aquired something similar at or below what you paid. But, you don't always here what the guy who paid to much has to say. If you paid below the MSRP, you did not pay TOO much. If you got it near invoice, you got a better deal. But, location and availabilty always dictate that fluctuation. I did not get a great deal on my truck. But, than again, there were FEW of my option package available in Southern California at time I made my purchase. So I do not feel I paid too much, nor do I think others who paid less got a better deal. In my last visit to the dealer for routine service they had 1 GX in inventory. It is too popular at this time around here. If I was looking for an LX ... they had about 10 of those. :) To paraphrase the words of Robert W Wood Jr. and and SW03ES ... don't worry about the price stuff and forget about it, just enjoy it. B) ← I'm just curious to see what others have paid...It sounds like many of you did quite well at the dealer. I guess you win some and lose some. cheers ← As someone else said, there is no use crying over spilled milk. BUT... for the future, you should prepare yourself by READING EVERYTHING available about the TACTICS of New Car Dearlers. Then READ SOME MORE, get everything you can I usually start by going to the library (Pre computer days) and photocopying the pages I need from EDMUNDS NEW CAR GUIDE, those guys are right on the money when it comes to car pricing. TO make a long story short, NEVER PAY RETAIL, when the car dealer says thats as low as we can go and your not satisfied WALK OUT! PERSISTANCE PAYS OFF - I bought my $52k GX for $45,500 You just got to do your homework set a price your willing to pay and NOT BUDGE, you also have to be willing to go to several dealers to see who is willing to work with you or to see who would rather play games. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR NEXT PURCHASE! ← tshrtkng, May I ask which dealer you dealt with to get that price? Did you walk in or was it through e-mail through the internet manager? I received quotes from several dealerships in the NYC area and the lowest I was able to get was $47000 on a $52,788 MSRP GX. One other thing I was wondering, maybe someone can shed some light on, are there any drawbacks to purchasing the car but then having service done at a different dealership? ← I once had the owner of a dealership tell me he did not care where I bought my car but did want me to bring to him for service as he told me they make more money off servicing than they do on the initial sale. But you might find some differences like when my local BMW dealer had no M3's I bought one from a dealer who was about an hour away. The local dealer was glad to service it but I could not get certain benefits they offered like free loaner and free car wash.
  21. I am pretty inept at all the new technology but found it easy to set up my phone with car. Just get out your NAV book and follow the directions. Just push info menu, then telephone, next settings then add phone. The NAV screen will then show a pass code and you need to go to the set up bluetooth function on your phone and enter that code. Voice dialing would be a horrible Idea as every time I say something like "74 degrees" it shows me all the ski places in my area. Voice command was kind of fun at first but have found it's much easier to just push a button
  22. My Motorola V551 works great and was a snap to set up. Did have to input phone numers one at a time
  23. Has anyone who has installed xenon have any problems due to the fact xenon are required to have a self leveling system? Or having people flash them due to blinding them?
  24. 16-17? Cool much better than the 8 city and 12 Highway I was getting in the two seat Maserati Spyder I traded in for my 2005 GX. And in the week I have driven my back feels much better
  25. Had been planning on getting a BMW 4.8is but was a little worried about it as dealer had none and really did want to order another car without getting a chance to drive first. So yesterday morning I finally found the time to run over to the Lexus dealer and check one out. Wanted the Sport package, Meridian Blue with the gray interior but all they had or could even locate was with Ivory. When I looked at it I was surprised to find that with the Sport package you got the Black Birds eye and not the golden eye and the top of the dash and doors were also black. Thought the car looked amazing with that contrast. When ordering my Maserati it would have costs thousands more to get those different colors combo's. So looked at car at 9:30 AM made deal then picked up car at 2:00PM. All I can say is, WOW, What an amazing vehicle. First off was so comfortable to drive as i was never able to get into a decent driving position in my spyder and after more than an hour it became painful. The toys are fabulous while I had NAV on the Maserati and BMW before that about all I can say about them was that they turned on. Always heard people on those Forums talk about how the NAV did not compare To Lexus NAV, Now I know now I know what they meant. Not sure how that KDSS works but it sure does, went around a bend at a pretty fast clip and felt like I was driving straight. got rid of my Spyder to avoid tickets and am now thinking may be worse now as it just does not seem like your going that fast until you look down at Speedo
