  1. Can you elaborate just a little please? Push on button, nothing happens? No volume but lights up? Stuck on channel 1? Details help.
  2. I'm going to bring this one back for an 04 GS 300 that chimes one time each time I accelarate from stop, but no other times. I did not think it prudent to start another thread as the issue might just be a general Lexus/Toyota thing. I take off and hear "bing" one time. I can drive 5 miles at a steady rate and no chimes. Pull up to a red light, when I take off "bing"……drive 100 yards to another red light and again when I take off "bing" once. No warning lights. All fluids are fine. Could my car be thinking a door is ajar?
  3. In my son's case with his (soon to be mine) 04 300 he had found all of the busted fuses and replaced them except one under the hood. The one that was blown would not simply pluck out like a normal fuse but was fastened to the fuse block from underneath by a 10mm nut. I don't recall if it was one or two. We went to youtube and saw a fellow replacing that fuse and how he set about removing the fuse block to get to the bottom. It aint real easy but with 4 small flat head screw drivers and a 10mm socket we were able to lift up and out the fuse block without breaking anything or bending soft plastics so badly that the cap would not fit back into grooves. Now you may want to go by a junkyard and try it on that one first or buy it and bring it home incase you break stuff. It is best to have two people but can be done alone. The 4 screwdivers held the tabs "open" to allow it to be lifted out. It probably took us longer to figure out how to gentley pry the fuse block out of the casing than it did to replace the fuse. Even after being careful there were a couple of places where we'd bent a plastic groove in such a way that the cap no longer easily snapped back in place so we used some pliers to reshape things and make formerly straight section of groove that had become somewhat bent become straight again. Regretably I did not take any photos to share. When we were done I colored to top of the + battery post red with a sharpie so it could prevent this from happening again if placing cables back onto the battery in low light conditions like before. Now, strangely enough the fuel pump went bad. The car had run up to that point but the headlights etc would not come on. When the fuse was replaced the car would not start so we swapped out the fuel pump and viola. That was actually pretty easy to do once you get the back seat out.   4. I use the 3m headlight restore kit and Plasti-X to keep it looking like glass for about 6 months. Just reapply Plasti-X about once a season to keep them looking great.

  6. My son bought an 04 GS 400 and quickly discovered a parasitic drain so he'd unplug the battery after driving it. It was a car he wanted to convert to an Aristo. One day he removed the battery then when he put it back he reversed the terminals. Woops. He purchased a hard copy edition of both books and set about replacing fuses. Well the Lexus way is to have two biggies screwed down with hidden screws. One was busted. I helped him one day and being used to Honda repair manuals I discovered Toyota does there's a whole lot differently. I found what I needed eventually and went to youtube for a how to. A little while passed and all was replaired. But the logic of where they place things in the manual has me scratching my head. I suppose the Honda one did at first too. Once you "crack the code" on how those engineers pieced things together you say "well gee that makes sense". My son now has a genuine Arista and has passed on the GS300 to me so I'll be seraching down the reason(s) for the muliple parasitic drains. As I learn more I'll share info here in hopes to help somebody else resolve some of the gremlin induced issues that occur as these cars age.

  8. After restoring a Prelude SH stem to stern I'm about to embark on an 04 black n tan 300 that has battery drain issues coming from a door light activator, and the cd player. The fuel pump was replaced at 250k. It has a few scratches and a slight oil leak at the top of the timing belt cover area. I learned the Honda way and now look forward to learning how Toyota differs in engineering and build methods. Plans are to generally keep it stock with a few minor tweaks as I learn how to.
