  2. Yes, its true that new high security key system could cost you around $2000.00 if you lose the last master key. KEEP READING................because the ECU (control computer) must be replaced if you don't have the key. This is my own experience, I bought the 2000 LS with no key (assuming it's no big deal) afraid of dealership costs I searched all over but no one was able to cut and program keys. Some locksmiths were asking $1300.00 to $1500.00 for reflashing my ECU. Then I started calling dealerships until I one dealer helped me out. FACT#1: But Lexus does provide courtesy first time replacement of ECU and keys at no cost. This is Lexus policy. But some dealers wouldn't want to acknowledge it in order to make money. Keep calling your area Lexus dealers and talk to service reps. FACT#2: The aftermarket remote keys are made better with sturdier and plastic shell than the OEM ones, told by my friendly dealer who recommended me to buy from outside for a max of $99.00 and I did. All of the above are my personal experience and not rumors.
  3. j.barleycorn............cannot disagree with you
  4. www.greenleafauto.com they are nationwide
  5. I agree that winter handling depends mainly on who is driving the car. However tires play their part as well. When stuck in snow or on gravel, traction should be turned off. From my experience I've learned that Mich's are not good. Good Year Eagle LS gave me best handling on worst snow conditions on RWD car, not once or twice but on daily basis. I also agree that snow tires are good on only light soft snow. Tire pressure is of utmost importance to manage spinning and braking. Bottom line is that GS is not better nor worse than any other in winter.
  6. hello folks, i need your input on this confusing issue.......do you really have to change the srs/airbag control module or computer once the front airbags are deployed on 2000 model? what does it mean when the sticker on the module says "do not open. consult manual for maintenance"? the body shop and most dealers say it has to be replaced otherwise the airbags won't deploy in the event of crash. but one service cnsultant said that it might be reset. what's the truth? can this thing be reset?

  8. Well, who makes the best cars in the world? Which car has the reputation of #1 in customer satisfaction for past 12 years or more straight? Are you looking to get just the class or first class in every aspect? Same answer to 2 or more questions is your answer from your own heart.
  9. dcfish.......can you please get me links for 2000 LS400 also? or email me pdf to juicyfruit_s@yahoo.com I'd really appreciate it. thanks
  10. Thanks! I'll give that a try. Surely there has to be a way to permanently disable it, though. But, maybe not.... check ebay motors, i saw a few bypass gadgets for lexus dvd navigation. those things also allow you to control dvd movies on your nav system. by the way doesn't your nav allow you to prog or input commands by voice while driving? i'm sure you've watched the dvd video that come with the car for nav use training.
  11. hello folks. i am going to replace my airbags and srs/airbag module (or ecu or computer) but not sure where that module is mounted on 2000 ls400. car is not driveable at the moment so cannot take it to shop or dealer. any help is appreciated. thanks.
  12. please disregard. reposting after editing
  13. My job is being on the roads, hghways and local, and in all kinds of severe weather. I have used MXV4s twice. They are nice to ride on but they cost you some handling and a lot of fuel. The rubber isvery soft on mxv's thus providing comfort for grand pas. If you want Mich brand only, Symmetry's are far better in every aspect for normal driving. From my driving experience, Good Year eagle LS's is best in snow but they get a little noisy after 50k miles. And Yokos are excellent for ride and grip both. There is nothing special about the mxv except the ridiculous high price. Buy tires accordingly to your driving style and weather conditions. You can get matching deals on ebay motors.
  14. Good question! Only Toyota can answer that, I guess. But I've seen the IS as another version of Corollas in asian countries. In most countries Lexus is still Toyota. For example, the LS series is called Toyota Celsior in Japan and some countries. Toyota makes a lot more models than we know here in US.
