  1. Wire from left bank cam/crank position sensor was broke. Runs now.
  2. Appears to be a dashpot assembly or idle air control valve. Dashpots are use to "soften" the throttle shut down. Kind of like a shock absorber. If its the idle air control valve, then it wont start as the throttle blade is closed all the way now.
  3. Looks unplugged. Plug it back in lol. Either cam sensor, or possibly knock sensor. Does not appear to be close enough to the crank reluctor ring to be a crank pos sensor.
  4. In a world fueled by greed anything is possible....Most of the country is "dirt" poor literally. The other small portion are billionaires...I mean who doesn't need a 100 room castle for a handful of people and servants...
  5. Good grief. He posted it on page 1 of this thread, click, save target as, print, head to lexus. doubtful they will do it now though. 14yrs ago...I did my own in 3hrs, all 4. Cost me $12 for the motors.
  6. Well Ive been lurking on this site for some time with a few posts here and there and finally decided I'd put up some photos of this 14yr old car. I bought it about 4 months ago and had no idea what I was getting into. I sold my truck that had a lot of miles on it so the lex is my daily driver. Ive had to put quite a bit of time and money into it to get it back to where a lexus should be. Below is a list of things that I had to do. Most of these are very common on the 2nd gen GS. Replaced all 4 door lock actuators using DIY Ebay motors New front rotors with drilled/slotted ones and ceramic pads New oil filler cap since it was busted and leaking New alternator New battery Front seats reupholstered Replaced center console wood trim as original was cracked. New one came with black chrome shifter bezel New radiator New windshield New arm rest cover converted interior lights to true white LED replaced main charge fuse...talk about a pita! New DS fog light New hand made wood grain Tshift knob...I know old school (i used to own a chevelle...) converted over to mobile 1 oil/filter New magnaflow header w/cats new hood support struts New oem lexus floormats So far including buying the car and all the things Ive done, Ive only got about $6,500 in it. Heres how it turned out. Last two pics are huge so had to post as thumbnails as links. Im pretty happy with this car. Next up will be a 2JZGTE Aristo swap but thats a ways out still.
  7. What bulbs are these? Cree?
  8. I have the turtle wax kit. It worked well. Could not see the reflector at all inside due to the "yellow" oxidized plastic. Took about 20min and back to new look.
  9. 70mA or lower. Pull the fuses till you find the one that drops it. Dont be surprised when you pull the ECM fuse and it drops sharply only to rise up to 700mA when reinserted. The caps in the ECM have to charge up and then the draw should drop back down below 70mA. My GS draws 38mA with nothing on. Battery goes dead after a week of not running. I have narrowed it down to a defective battery. Sounds like you have a ton of fuses either missing or blown.
  10. If you can find a buddy with an old snap on scanner you can use this: Snapon connector OBD1
  11. Is there a separate ADL plug near the fuse box under the hood? Is this the method you used? OBD1 manual check
  12. yeah no problem. Im a diy kinda guy. Im thinking in the next 6-8months about pulling my 2jz out and having it precision balanced and re-ringing/bearing the motor. Fig I could gasket match the head/intake and smooth out the short side radius on the exhaust side while Im at it. I havent had my GS that long, but Ive put a ton of time/money into it and did all the work myself except getting seats re-done.
  13. Next year I will be picking up an LS or another GS to add to the driveway, but looking at for 400/430 versions. I payed a little less but got basically the same deal. Nice looking car for sure.
  14. I agree with landar on this one. Seems like pretty routine tasks. The transmission one may be a little more difficult.
  15. Can pull the codes with a paperclip. I work on my Gs all the time. Im in Jarrell, bout 20min north of Austin.
  16. 248,500miles on my 99 gs300. Running strong with synthetic motor oil. Belt, timing belt, alternator, header, plugs, and wires are the only things done so far. Other than that just oil changes. Rides super smooth. The blend servo has started fluttering but I just turn up the radio for now lol. Will fix it when its a constant bother.
  17. May be a stupid question, but are you using synthetic oil? Prem fuel? All filters replaced like they should? I cant speak for the newer cars (that should easily get better mileage than my oldie) but Im averaging 23mpg with mainly city driving. 99gs with a ton of miles on it as well. I dont drive light footed either...
  18. strange....I have bookoo miles on mine and the oil level moves maybe 1/4" on the stick between oil changes.
  19. If the car would not shut off with the key, I would suspect an ignition relay or a faulty ignition switch. I may be mistaken, but normally cars have higher voltage to the coil packs during starting. This is achieved with a dual relay approach. One relay is for higher voltage during starting, the other is for run condition. However, this may be off a bit.
  20. Go to autozone, scan, write codes down, post here.
  21. Hmm, Im wondering if these are related....I dont have an LS, I have a gs, and if the cabin filter got stopped up along with the ac evap box drain getting plugged up, it would create a horrible smell and water would collect and then seep out and get on the factory amp...hmm, maybe Im just imagining things though...
  22. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/topic/52146-01-ls430-tilt-wheel-stuck/ <<<< Try this.
  23. sounds like the gear needs to be replaced on the up/down motor. There is a DIY thread on the net for this. Apparently you can just "shim" the old gear and make it work. My GS did this and I pulled the clamshell cover off of the column and tapped on the motor with the butt of a screwdriver handle and it works normally now. I also lubed the shaft/pivot mechanisms.
