  1. I too had to pull that tray out of my 95 when I installed a car phone. I used the same careful prying method as Jim to get the tray out. I can't remember if it is snaped in certain areas or all the way around (if I had to guess, I'd say it's snaped in certain areas.). I really think you would have to beat the hell out of that tray in order to break it. It should take you about 20 seconds to remove it, taking your time.
  2. We would like to think that it would be used as a means to prosecute, but I'm not holding my breath...especially, after hearing about things like the dumb !Removed! judge in Vermont who gave a child rapist 60 days in jail for raping a little girl for 4 YEARS. There is a difference between rape and carrying an illegal weapon. I can actually recall insatances of murderers, rapists, drunk drivers, etc on the news that are being punished. I honestly have never heard of anyone being brought in for carrying an illegal piece. Those more serious crimes that you listed are waaaaaay more enforecable than hunting down an illegitimate 9mm pistol. I've never been to a Police Academy, but I'm pretty sure they spend their months of training doing more than shooting at paper targets, like learning laws and how to enforce them. Just about any !Removed! can shoot at a target and do reasonably well. I agree with all of your regulations whole heartedly and would be more than willing to go through them to purchase another gun, but I still stand by the arguement that the people who are going to comply with your regulations are people who are going to use firearms responsibly in the first place, so in my mind, the plan would not be very effective.
  3. It's not going to make a bit of difference to me to have 3m tint on my windows especially for what it was going to cost (about $150 more). I have Madico tint on my windows which my tint guy told me isn't the highest quality film on the market, but it is garaunteed for life and is pretty good for it's price. The install is flawless (in fact, you've commented on it before.) and still looks like it did the day he installed it 2 years ago. Not to mention, if a problem ever occurs he will fix it for me, no questions asked.
  4. Makes sense to me. From Thieaux's remarks, it sounds like you carry a gun if you can. I don't think we can relate. It's certainly possible, but people are going to have guns no matter what regulations are in effect. It's like prohibition, people still got their booze eventhough it was illegal. It's a good thing that the little girl was not killed (I think the bullet caught her arm.). Who keeps loaded guns in such close proximity to kids? That guy should be removed from society because of his lack of intelligence.:chairshot:
  5. I'd just do more of what you did...shop around some more. Different tint shops are going to carry different tints, one of them is bound to carry a close match. ;) I don't think brand is all that important so long as a chimpanzee doesn't install it, and its got a good warranty.
  6. Josh, I'm very sorry for your loss. :( 42 is too young to go. He and his wife will most definantly be in my prayers.
  7. Let me get this straight, I just got called a nut by someone who was in a pretty heated (the guy pulled a gun on you, so I'm guessing tranquil conversation was out of the equation.) verbal match over a parking space??? :D :P j/k I suppose everyone whose had their car stolen had the keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked? It's impossible to keep everyone and everything safe 24/7, 365. Crime and god forbid, violent crime are facts of life. "Dangerous environments" are everywhere. I'm by no stretch of the imagination one of those people who constantly looks over their shoulder, but you have to be realistic, crimes happen in more places than just the ghetto. I agree!
  8. Because something is meant only to do good, it doesn't mean there aren't serious or threatening issues that follow with them. Just because a car is an efficient means of conveyance, the fact that they do kill shouldn't be dismissed, not to mention all of the environmental havoks they reak. I enjoy electricity in my home as I'm sure everyone does, and it's meant to do only good, but the contaminants that power companies "discharge" and go god knows where that hurt and/kill citizens/wildlife/etc. is serious business. I'm just posing an argument (I'm not about to park my car and start walking places or live in the dark! LOL). Guns are not soley for killing. I mainly use my guns at the gun club for target shooting...it's great fun! Their are hunters too... It has plenty of bearing on today's society for no other reason than its prime real estate in our Constitution. They wanted to protect themselves, just like we want to today. That's why I like guns, well, going to the gun club is a blast too! Your one sentence summation makes the story sound stupid, but there's way more to it than that. Thieaux came upon the thief in the act of stealing the motorcycle; then, the theif goes to pull something out of his bag, it could have been a stick of gum or it could have been a 38 special. A judgement call had to be made, and I think it's more than logical to assume that he was going for a weapon. Any one would have drawn their gun if they had it at their side. If you go to pull something out of a bag after you were seen attempting to comit a serious crime, the police will not shrug it off. After they pull their weapons on you, you drop the bag, and you're cuffed, they'd likely beat the hell out of you just for $hits and giggles. Harsher gun regulations only affect law abiding citizens. You're going to have a hard time convincing me that your local crime lords have concealed licenses or even leagally obtained weapons.
  9. I know it's not perfect (I said "nearly perfect."), but I meant that it's in pretty nice shape for having roughly 110k-120k on it. Clearly, it is worn, but I think it still looks good for something that is supposedly a 90k item. I drive mainly hwy and accelerate very slowly, so I do believe that I could have safely extended the interval. My $.02
  10. Walt, I'll attach a few pictures of my timing belt with about 110k miles on it. As you can see, it's in nearly perfect shape. I could have waited a lot longer than I did to change it! You can pull that cover with the 4cam 32valve writing on it to see a little bit of the timing belt. ;)
  11. You need to drive the 2 of them and compare. You may very well hate the eletronic throttle that the '98+ has. The '98+ is drop dead gorgeous and has numerous improvements, but I'd have a really hard time getting used to the throttle lag.
  12. WOOOOH! What a shock! I'm at a loss for words! We're going to miss you, Rob. Nissan does make some great cars (they even make some of them here in MS!). I really hope that things work out better for you with a Nissan/Infiniti! Good luck, buddy!! :D
  13. I love Cashmere! It's probably my favoirte color that Lexus made! Beige is my favorite color in general, I guess it only makes sense that I like it on cars soo much! My old ES300 was Cashmere with gold emblems; I love that combo! B) Black looks nice when it's clean, but it's too much work. Plus, my black has no clear coat, so long term durability lacks. What part of DFW are you posting from?
  14. Congrats! You are going to love the Cashmere paint! Here are the most common part sites: www.newlexusparts.com www.irontoad.com www.lexus-parts.com www.discounttoyotaparts.com (there is a link to the Lexus page) I hope that the dealership was honest with you. I recently helped my aunt find a '95 LS, and after seeing several on the internet (from individuals and dealers) that looked to be perfect cars, they had some pretty damning faults that the sellers omitted from the description. Luckily, we just so happened to stumble upon a LOC member's '95 for sale. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for ya! ;)
  15. Chris, you should have your mechanic change the cam and crank seals, water pump, both idler pullies, and the tensioner when he does the belt. ;) It sounds like your mechanic is very honest!
  16. Awesome story!!! I can't wait until I can take my concealed carry classes. :D
  17. Bart, the Dem Odyssey is courtesy of my good friend and hero Rush Limbaugh! ;) Here's another good one....right women verses left:
  18. Here's another one for you LOL....
  19. Yeah, your cluster back lighting will be on all the time. The only time they will go completely dark is if it's dark outside and you have your headlights on and the rheostat turned down. If you want the gauges dark during the day, turn your headlights on and cover the light sensor on the dash, and everything will go dark. It sounds like everything is working properly. ;)
  20. Well said! Hillary and Teddy...talk about a match made in hell. I don't know who I hate more (probably Teddy). And here's to my idiot mayor..... You know, the double standard is what really chaps my !Removed! about this aside from Nagin's inability to think before he opens his big mouth. A white mayor would have a noose around his/her neck if they said New Orleans will one day be white again....please, please come back to this rat infested, *BLEEP* hole city. :chairshot: He should learn to shut his mouth and focus more on rebuilding the city. As for Hillary, that was just a lame attempt to cater to her black constituants to help reelection. Yeah, congress is a plantation....please. I really believe that she would use that same similie if she was addressing a white audience. :snoooorrrtttt:
  21. There is no point in closing this. It's beyond me as to why we can't talk badly about the leader of a deadly terrorist organization.
  22. I don't see any issue in flaming a terrorist leader. There is a debate subforum in "the other Lexus forum's" gen. forum where members can discuss edgy topics, maybe something similar would be appropriate here?
  23. I also hear that a thorough cleaning of the windows helps to remove the chemicals that the cigarettes leave behind. Be sure to wipe down the dash and seats to get rid of the ashes (you'd be suprised where they can work their way to). Also, if the PO was a super heavy smoker, the headliner might be slightly black over the driver's seat. Use febreeze and leave all the windows open as much as possible to let the car air out.
  24. That's a great looking car! I love those rims! As for the tint, you'll love it. I have very bad vision, but I never had a problem seeing out of my windows which were tinted to 10% all the way around (state law enforcement asked that I raise the front windows to 40%, the legal limit.). It took me a few days to get used to backing up at night, but after that, it was smooth sailing!
