  1. Not hard at all!!! Basically, all I did was remove the little cover that says "Four Cam 32 Valves." Then you can see the timing belt on one of the tensioners. I got a little mirror that has a little pole on it-kinda like the dentists one! With a flash light I just took a look at the belt and saw no cracks or dry rot and good grooves left on the belt. None of the bearings in there are squealing because the car runs silently, so I'm going to wait until it really needs it ;) ! Let me know if you need further clarification.
  2. Can anyone recommend a good conventional(non synthetic oil) to me? I have a phobia about the synthetic oil leaking especially on an extremely high mileage car like mine; then, I just read a post about someone switched to syn, and he car started leaking. While it might not be the syn. oil's fault, I don't want to take any chances whatsoever! So, are any of these conventional oils better than any others?? thanks
  3. 98-00 is gen 3?? How come? They revised a few things just like Lexus does on pretty much all of their cars after the 2nd or 3rd year of production. Shouldn't it be more like(I'm just curious; I'm not tring to start an argument or anything like that ;) ) : 90-94 Gen I 95-00 Gen II 01-0_ Gen III
  4. Yep, like Jim said you can get atleast 110k out of the belt. The one in my '95 LS4 is at 115k; I'll probably change it this summer for piece of mind. Also, with that kind of mileage on the belt, I inspect the belt regularly just to make sure nothing is happening!
  5. I have a pair of RayBans and a pair of Oakleys. Both are great but very different glasses in the $120 price range. The Oakleys are very sporty glasses with a tight fit that won't ever fall off of your face. The Ray Bans are more stylish/comfortable...my favorites. Both have pretty decent lenses for their relatively low price range...considering what else is out there.
  6. Agent-those little erasers are pretty neato huh?!?!?!? :D Silver-I know what you're saying about the dark colors. This is new to me because my ES300 was Beige-a wonderful color, so I'd wash the car just for the fun of it because very, very little shows up! Whereas, on my 400 30min after I took these pics, the car turned yellow from the pollen. :( . I aim to wash the car every week; it usually happens, but the worst case is every 2 weeks. Over the summer I washed the ES every single week, but now with school, things are much busier=less car time! I think the car will look even better once I get the PC buffer. I only hand wash at home; I've got plenty of room and supplies here at the house plus the water is free! I agree with what you said about taking the car for what it's worth...I need to come to terms with the car has 225k so the paint will NOT be perfect like my last lex with half the mileage, but I still want to make it the best it can be because like you and prob. all of us here, I have tremendous pride in my baby! B) Denny- The clear lights are nice, but I don't think I'd get them! They're just not my type of thing....it gives Me a feeling of rice for some reason. I dunno why!!! But, to each his own! :) Besides I like the amber lenses! I've kinda thought about getting newer rims too. I think I'd go with the '97 Coach edition rims-their just like the Agent's, but they are painted white. I've got a temperary tag in the back winshield on the passenger's side...you can see it in a few pics. I'm thinking about a personal plate, but the origonal plate must come in first; then, I can apply for the personalized plate. I do need a new inspection sticker though-it's 5 months over due!!! Thanks for the compliments guys :D
  7. Here's what you need to do: 1. Get the address of the pic in the gallery. Click on the pic so that a full size pic would come up, but not the supersized view. By right clicking on the pic and selecting properties, you can then copy and paste the address of the pic. 2. Click the "IMG" button in a reply you wish to make. 3. Copy and paste the address of the pic from step 1 in the "IMG" tag in step 2 4. Preview your post and it should work if you copy and pasted the right thing. Ex. Denny's LS from the misc. section: here's what the address looks like: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/albums/Misc/Lexus_RR.jpg . Make sure the address has .jpg at the end of it; I think that's why it didn't work for you Denny! Should look like this.
  8. Whose car is this? This is a rare sight! I think his knuckles are starting to turn snow-white ....
  9. Thanks :D ! You got that right about the TLC, see the next post before I cleaned the seats! I think I like doing the work just for the sole purpose of the before and after pics!! The paint...the sides are fine, but the hood and trunk aren't so hot. I spoke to a body man today, and he said that the car needs new paint for $3k. I said not a chance in hell! I don't have the Porter Cable buffer/polisher; I'm about to get one though-I think!...just my right arm to do all the work! I think that if I just keep at the paint it will eventually come around with the right amount of effort and the proper products. The Klasse took a lot of oxidation off which was really good! The paint looks gorgeous from say atleast 2 feet away, but once you get right up there the hood, roof, and trunk are nasty looking. Upclose=bad, and 2+ feet away=awesome!!! I love the water blade!!!
  10. I'll go first...just a quick shot that accidently got the garage in it. One side has a dead Mustang convertible and the other side is packed with junk-atvs, motorcycles, wood flooring, tools, you name it-it's probably somewhere in there! I'll get a better pic tomorrow so that you guys can really see the yellow walls. Denny, Roy(aka "Agent 99" for Denny!! lol), and 93(I think I got everyone in this post) I want to see your garages too! Denny it'd be cool to see all of those cars too!
  11. I got bored after school, so I decided to do something productive with my time! I did a pretty decent detail using: Wash with Megs car soap Dry with water blade Klasse AIO Cleaner Wax Megs #26 Yellow wax-a very good wax Invisible glass for all windows with yesterday's newspaper! Meg's tire endourance Pledge on all of the wood which came out very nice And last but not least the hand held Oreck that picks up the bowling ball! I'm still working on those stains-you can't see them too well because they're mostly under the mats. They're comming slowly but surely! I bought a new gear shift indicator plate; I just need to go put it in! I threw in a pic of my odo!..only 225k and she runs better than new! A Lexus is forever!!
  12. One more set for yall to take a peek at: I hit just about every surface imagineable in the car: dash, steering wheel, shifter, even a few spots on the cloth headliner, and a bunch of trim pieces! Just detailed the car...I used Pledge on the wood, and it looks terrific if I might say so! B)
  13. Check this out before and after Mr. Clean magic erasers. I think my car might have been the dirtiest car ever, but I'm trying to change that. They don't even look like the same seats after I cleaned them!!!! :D I'd say they're well worth the $5! before: and after...hold on to something you'll be shocked
  14. Stevie, don't worry about the stickers; they are static clinging. See they went from my ES to my LS in a snap. BTW, here's a pic of my new machine with the LOC sticker in the left hand corner of the wind shield. ES is no longer mine as of last Sunday :( . A little late, but I glad you're safe and the car is not too bad...they'll fix that up, and you'll never be able to tell!
  15. Having been in the same boat(this boat's a '95LS though... ) a couple weeks ago, I've already scoured the internet to find the cheapest possible price for the Nippon Denso irridum spark plugs. I found them at this store for $11.25 which is about as cheap as they are going to be-that translates into $94 for all 8 shipped. For the wires, I bought mine from newlexusparts.com for $98 which includes free shipping. Since we're going to have the engine somewhat apart(putting in the plugs, wires, rotors, and caps) this weekend, I think it'd be good to clean that throttle body. I looked at the throttle body when we dried out the spark plugs, and it was black with carbon build up. So, can anyone email me that ppt presentation that has the details on how to properly clean the throttle body??
  16. I just ordered everything about 3 hours ago! :D I got the seat, wheel, and entire console for $525. I'm not getting the wheel and console for sure...he couldn't exactly remember the condition, but he said he's only going to send it if it's perfect-same goes for console(no time for pics either! He'll of course make the appropriate deductions.). Here's the break down: $350-seat, $100-wheel, and $75 for the entire console(whatever this includes. I asked for just the armrest, but he said that they only sell the "whole thing," so I went for it.). My upholstry guy said $75 for just the console, so I though this was a pretty good deal! He said he's going to ship it out tomorrow or Wednesday, so I'll be looking sharp once again real soon plus we're doing a full ignition tune up and all new oil and tranny fluids this weekend. B) That's good to know about the LX wheel if he doesn't send the wheel from the wrecked LS!
  17. The steering wheel is actually not bad at all, but it does have an inch tear at the top(not like my driver's seat ;) ). I just saw this one on ebay, and it looks like a nice one, and hopefully it'll stay at a low price! I'm not in a rush to do this, but this looks like one to scoop up! So you think it'll match/work/fit/etc.?? I had American Stitches do the wheel in my ES. Their upholstry work was nice, but the color was a few shades off. I guess that if I would mail in the airbag too, it would have matched better! Plus, it's a little more than I'm looking to spend-it cost $315 for the ES's wheel.
  18. Maybe this will help: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...RK%3AMEBWA%3AIT Yeah...it sounds pretty popular to swap a 98 wheel for a 99-00 wheel. Infact, that's what the guy with the auction did ;) ! Thanks for the pic...I love pics of your car . You think that wheel will work with my car???
  19. Turning off a check engine light does nothing! I fought with this over the summer, and the only way to turn it off is to get the codes and fix the problem. ;) 99, I'd bet the mechanic either unpluged your battery or turned it off with a code reader. Both are pointless because the computer is finding a problem, and it won't go away until it's fixed! What sensors are broken??
  20. Are the steering wheels the same color, mainly tan, for the 95-00 LS? I have a 95, but I found a really nice one from a 98 on ebay. I think somewhere along the way they added stereo controls??
  21. I read through the whole sticky, and it all pretained to the climate control LCD in the 90-94 cars which is not what I need. Unfortunately, none of it pretained to the '95's stereo LCD. I did pm the 1 guy in there that mentioned it to see what he did-he just asked the question and that was that...no replys. I think my only choices are either carstereohelp.com or Mikado-or that's what I've heard as their website is only about their new garage door openers! I know I'm not the only one with this problem, so any suggestions would be great....
  22. My lcd is not blacked out; it just shows the channel and all of that in hyroglfics(spelling?eeek!). I have checked ebay, but they only have the A/C lcd for the first gen. cars. I was also thinking about another stereo from a salvaged car, but I think that will be a waste of time because I'm sure it'll happen again! One ES owner contacted Pioneer directly for an lcd-I think he said it well under $100. I'm going to have to find that post because that sounds like something to look into. Anyone ever tried this?? Thanks for the suggestions.
  23. I did run a search, and I found like 20 pages of climate control LCD info, but I need the stereo lcd info for my '95. Does anyone know where I can find one of these??
  24. www.newlexusparts.com . They are an online parts dealer at Park Place Lexus in Plano, TX. They are very, very reasonable. I just ordered that front parking lamp next to the headlight assembly for $63. You might, however, have some trouble with getting the parts shipped to SA.
