  1. These cars have great paint and if you take proper care of it they will keep thier new car like shine over the years.
  2. It surprises me when I hear people say they're getting mpg in upper 20s or some even reporting in 30s in other threads. I have a 94ls with ~230k miles with new plugs, wires, cleaned fuel injectors etc, and I usually get 19/20 or 21 at best on hwy. I think 94's tank capacity is 24.5
  3. I have some road debris stuck on side moldings behind the wheel wells and also on front bumper which I can't seem to get rid of. When I polished and waxed the car I applied all 3 stuff to them as I did to rest of the body, but this stuff doesn't seem to come off. It's hard to describe what this debris is, but I think it is all the stuff that flies off of the road and gets stuck on these places. What should I apply to these places to get the stuff out? Thanks.
  4. Good to know you solved the problem. Plugs and wires are a likely cause of these symptoms from what I had gathered too. 15-20k miles interval between oil changes seem to be on the high side. But if it comes out clean then I guess its reasonable to do so at that point.
  5. I have gotten my car's timing belt, water pump and tune up (plugs/wires, fuel injector service) done at a Shell gas station in Ellicott City, Maryland. This was about a month ago, and the car is running great since then. I personally know the guy who owns that place, and also know the service people there. The mechanic is very qualified to do anything on a lexus and I'm more than satisfied with his work. Last year he changed the complete front and back suspension and it has been flawless until now. They charge very reasonable price, much less than the dealer and do a high quality job. Very friendly people to work with and they will never do anything that is not required unlike the dealers. I've been to almost every dealerships in Maryland and ended relationship on a sour note. Their number is (410) 465-8537. Ask for Sami and do mention my name, Alamtab. I can guarantee you that they'll do excellent job and you will not be disappointed. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck.
  6. Yes, it was the original belt. Saw lots of wear on it when opened the covers to replace spark plugs & wires so decided to go ahead and get everything done.
  7. I think it is recommended to be changed at 90k miles interval. I'm guilty of changing at 230k miles on my 94ls. I was running it on borrowed time for quite some time. The TB in LS is not "chain belt" unlike some cars. Chain belts usually never needs changing.
  8. Anyone know where can I find chrome trunk lid for 94 ls? I've been doing a search on ebay for a while on this and there seems to be just one guy overseas that's selling them for $70. That's too much for so little. Does anyone know where else I can buy it. Would a trunk lid from say a bmw 7 series fit? I did a search on that on ebay and the one for 2001 740 is selling for $30. From the looks of it it seems pritty thin and sleek and I can sorta picture it fitting my car. Also, has anyone seen one on 94? There is a pic of it on ebay of a 96 ls...it looks pretty cool on that car and it says it will fit model 89-00. But I wonder if it would look cool on a 94?
  9. Very cool. Congrats Sounds like an awesome car you got there. Post some pictures if you get a chance.
  10. ECUPirate - check your private message. I've suggested a very good mechanic I have worked with and personally know. He does incredible work.
  11. Welcome aboard Jon. Good to have another detailing expert in addition to SW03ES with us :D
  12. Kenny - I did a search for it in this forum and this is what one member wrote: "You will be able to see the 'flowing' bubbles yourself if present in the sight glass[which is on the rt side of the elec radiator fans-this is rt as sitting in car]; it is in the small pipe going to the condenser." Hope that helps.
  13. Monarch - thanks for the information. I will go ahead and add about 1/2 a can of R134a refrigerant. Do you know where to look for for the sight glass? Do we put R134a same way and location as it shows in the picture for putting R12?
  14. I find bimmerforums.com to be the best one for BMWs.
  15. I didn't change the fuel filter. I think clogged fuel injectors could cause these symptoms too, so make sure they are cleaned. I've heard BGE fuel injector cleaner works well, but haven't used it myself. So if you don't want to spend money getting it cleaned by a mechanic (however I would recommend that you do), see if using it makes a difference. I think it goes for around $15.
  16. I finally got my car fixed. Since I got a lot of work done, it probably won't help those who were looking for what the cause may have been for shuddering. I believe it was probably spark plugs and wires because plugs were changed 100k miles ago and with 230k miles, wires were never changed. I got the following things done by an independent mechanic in Maryland: Spark plugs (NKG Iridium), spark plug wires (vitek), fuel injection cleaned, throttle body cleaned. Timing belt, water pump, heater control valve, thermostat ignition rotor & distribution cap replaced. And also got the complete coolant flush. Needless to say the car runs like new and I'm loving it!!!!!! If anyone in Maryland is looking for an independent mechanic to do this kind of work on their lexus let me know. I also got the whole front and rear suspension done by this guy 4 months back and I'm very satisfied by his work.
  17. Does 94 LS also use R12? Also one more question.... I think my car is cooling like average, but I've never charged the AC system in 7 years that I've owned it. It has ~230k miles. Do you think I should add a can or 2 just incase....maybe the AC is not cooling to the full potential right now and adding a bit more might help?
  18. If you read the pinned topic about what you should do first, he said to use 5:1 woolite/water mixture to clean leather and I think to use Lexol conditioner after that.
  19. Yesterday I applied Mcguires scratch remover, then polish and finally wax. I don't rememember exactly what they are called, but it is standard stuff they carried at Advanced Auto from Mcguire. I used terry towel to apply and remove during all 3 processes. I was very happy with the results and took some pictures which I will share in the ls400 forum probably tomorrow. But this morning when I took the car in the sun I noticed leftover transparent type marks which I think are probably from wax :-( . I was very careful to remove all the stuff yesterday and thought everything came off but I see transparent marks at some places at some angles especially under the sun. Do you think these marks will eventually wear off after a while, maybe after undergoing car washes? Or do I need to take a terry towel and go through buffing again which will be pritty painful since I'm all sored up from hours of working on this :-D It is a silver car so marks are not very visible, but I can't stand these and it is bothering me a lot. If you have any suggestions or tips to get rid of these ugly marks please share. Thanks.
  20. Thanks for the tips, I'll keep them in mind. With 230+k miles I think the TB should be in really bad shape so I plan on doing a complete clean.
  21. It's taking longer than I expected to get the plug wires from Vitek - its been more than a week. As soon as i get those I'll replace plugs, wires and clean TB. I'll let you know the results.
  22. In my opinion chrome on silver doesn't go very well. I have seen some on the road and it looks like a mismatch. The non-gloss silver wheels on silver looks a lot more classy and elegant.
  23. My comment is for the picture I saw.
