Removing Catalytic Converters?
JIBBBY replied to whitesnake SC400's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
There is no adverse affects to removing or replacing your cat converter...The best flowing cat available that I have seen is a Magnaflow cat 2 into 1, and it flows... Removing your cat will give you a noticeable power gain on a 1993 Sc400, it did on my 1992 Sc400... I was pleasantly suprised with the change....I recommend cat changes on all early model sc400 to the magnaflow cat, for performance and better gas mileage...No additional exhaust noise either... Ad 2 two high flow resonators for $30 each on ebay and some Magnaflow mufflers in addition to these S@S headers and you will see major power gains like 40hp and save alot of gas...It will be as loud as Camaro or Mustang after....Here are some pics of my exhaust mods and these mods brought my Sc400 to life....those straight thru mufflers you see are megan N1 mufflers and are probably a little to loud for most that is why I suggested the oval magnaflow mufflers... Good luck.. -
If you use sheet metal with 1/2 insulating foam on the intake box area you will reduce the engine heat from getting thru to your intake air...Remember colder air is dense and makes more power thn expanded heated air...Something the BFI experts don't consider...Hence the term COLD BOX INTAKE for max power..

Need 2 1/4" Mandrel Rear Section Exhaust Piping Sc400?
JIBBBY replied to JIBBBY's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
jzz30- thanks for the reply I will give napa a call today and see what they have... :) -
I am looking for a good deal on 2 1/4" rear section exhaust mandrel piping only... I have my high flowing mufflers and resonators ready to hook up on 2 1/4 inch piping.. Just don't know where the deal is on the piping, anyone? I am hoping this change out will quiet things down abit without sacrificing performance...

I would be happy to join in on this party...To answer the question of how to get rid of the one wheel wonder sc differential, well there are several options depending on your preference and budget.. TRD LSD -makes a wicked LSD which bolts on to your existing one wheel wonder differential.. Much money for one but is the best... KAAZ LSD - Which I have owned and tried and dumped. Too agressive and too much maintenance and noise around turns, price $900. 1993 and newer Supra Twin Turbo LSD is the best choice to maintain the normal driving conditions like stock. You can buy one used at a junk yard for around $500 like I did... Bolts right on and is an identical match and bolt patterns as your SC400. ALso the differential gearing ratio is the same on the Automatics.. I installed mine myself and it took me two hours to swap....Not that hard, but does require some muscle if you do not have the proper jacks....I muscled it in on my back on the ground.. A tranny shop should not charge you no more than $300 to change out... The Supra Twin Turbo LSD Torsen as mentioned above is a torch sensing LSD and is great for normal driving conditions, you will get two wheel burnouts...but it is not like a Detroit locker LSD by any means of the imagination.....Good luck I hope this info helps... Keep in mind when upgrading the Sc's for performance look to the tt supra for interchangeable parts..Suspension, brakes, LSD, control arms, etc... The subframes are identical between the two cars so most parts bolt right on...

That home made intake is your best option...Use the K@N flat filter over stock on that application.. That same write up is on intellexual.net....Also that plywood funnel under the head light deal will rot away over time. I suggest using plastic sheeting or even sheet metal instead which is lighter in weight and will last longer....Good Luck I have the injen intake tube with a Rod Millen huge filter pod, the funnel under the headlight I made with plastic sheeting. Also have a plastic heat shield around the filter to protect from engine robbing heat..Also, inside the snorkle tubing I have installed air breaker inserts...Don't know if my intake flows any better then the BFI deal.but it looks better atleast, oh well.....Here is a pic...

I got 18" Allessio's on 10.5 width, Z rated low profiles.. These are not good pictures, can't see the D/S rotors and calipers... I have a 1" drop and have no scraping or any problems... On a stock height ride I would go for 19' inch rims..

BFI - If I remember correctly it is just a band name of a performance product...stands for Black Forest Industries... not Big Fat Intake.... It is just a brand name much like K@N, Injen, etc...

Need A Quiet Rear Exhaust Section For My Sc400?
JIBBBY replied to JIBBBY's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
My friend is running good Magnaflows on a turbo'd LS400 and it is still loud, Borla's I have not tried, but I image they are much like dynomax, and flowmasters... Blitz makes the best quiet rear section setup for the Sc400 but the price of $750 is outrageous....Quietflow mufflers would work great but dont fit right in the rear housing and look aweful....The search continues... I think I will head on down to the local performance muffler shop and see what they think....Thanks for the reply... -
Need A Quiet Rear Exhaust Section For My Sc400?
JIBBBY posted a topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
Wondering if anyone can help me with finding a very quiet but yet somewhat performing rear exhaust or muffler setup for my 1992 SC400... My straight thru mufflers in combination with headers and nos, rock the neighborhood at high RPM's, and it is time for a quiter change. I also recently got a noise fix it ticket and had to switch to these temporarily rediculous looking uni mufflers to pass the ticket inspection... Now, I need a quite setup? Anyone? Before and after...pics -
Need Longer Wheel Studs For My Sc400?
JIBBBY replied to JIBBBY's topic in Lexus Modifications Forums
Not true, the Lexus wheel stud housing is groved and is a certain diameter size... The only place I found longer wheel studs for the lexus sc cars was at Kragen Auto Parts..I looked everywhere... $3 a peice.... I hammered out all the old studs and torqued in the new ones... A very easy job... -
Clear the calipers is correct on the front wheels brake swap..

Should I Go For The S350 Or Ls430? Need Advise Before 2pm Today?
JIBBBY replied to M500's topic in 01 - 06 Lexus LS430
Wait for the 460 that will be an awesome car..... -
I think any car with additional 100hp nos shot will kick !Removed!...Even a Dodge Neon... The IS350 would really be smoking with a 100hp nos system, and would most likely beat me but not by much.... However, please note that not too many smaller engines can handle nos systems over the long haul... The V8 IUZ..'s are the "PERFECT" engine for nos, that is why I did it. This is coming from the true racing nos pro's and not from me.. I have been running my nos almost daily for well over a year with no problems what so ever. My car is as reliable as stock, idles perfect, does not use oil, shifts smoothly, takeoffs can jerk your head back a bit if I am not careful, just a tap of the gas from a dead stop jerks the car forward unlike stock, this is all because of my upgraded DRAGON torque converter... (automatic cars only) Here are some pic's of my nos system... Again I would be careful and ask the pro's if nos can be used with the smaller 6 cylinder Lexus engine's over long periods of time... Nos simply wears out smaller engines fast, and non blue printed V8 engines as well over time... The reason being that nos is not a gradual excelleration of fuel intake like a pedal being pushed down, turbo's, or superchargers, etc..it is an instant burst of 100hp+ to the internals of a motor which can turn out to be a little too much stress for the smaller motors, or non blue printed motors to handle...However a 100hp nos shot is considered to be mild so with that being said just maybe the 6 cylinder Lex motor will eat the nos up with no problems. I can only speak about the V8 from my experiences and am happy to report no problems with the V8 IUZ..'s what so ever..they love nos these engines do, I kid you not.. These are pictures of both my 10lb and 15lb bottles of nos... oh and also if you are interested in nos and want to learn more please visit Lextreme.com forum and search under "nos" you will see many posts by me JIBBY and others to this regard... It is a very good cost effective way to get your car running with the big boys....

I did race one one month ago, and yes I was suprised with the speed and could not beat it with the base aprox. 300hp running on my modified sc400, but when I nailed the addition 100hp+nos system I raced past it...true story and I am not exaggerating at all... I raced a new Vette several months ago and got smoked off the line by 2 car lengths, I then hit the nos and stayed right behind it the whole way.. Could not catch it, pass it, or take it, but stayed with the 400hp new Vette... Very fast are those Vette's....That is all I have to say.. Again I said the IS350 is fast and suprised the hell out of me, but is no speed demon....I would say 5.5 seconds 0-60mph in my opinion... We raced from a dead stop at a red and I shut it down at about 70mph and was a several car lengths ahead of the IS350. I then got a thumbs up from the owner of the brand new IS350 at the next red, and I did the same while I was struggling to see which new Lexus it was.. I thought it was a new prototype IS430 but later saw the 350 emblem and was shocked....
-
With all due respect the 2002 Vette that does 0-60 in the mid 4's..I must say either the one you raced was seriously out of tune, or he was toying with you.. I cannot beat that Vette and I clearly beat out the IS350, so I really don't think the race will be as close as you state if both cars we tuned and pressed.. Those Vettes grip much better off the line for one and mid range power is more impressive...Sorry pal, the IS350 are very fast for what they are....that is true, but they are no speed demon by any meens....

Hey, I upgraded my brakes to the Supra TT rotors and calipers and the 4 piston brakes are amazing, the improved braking is very impressive. Here is some pic's... I paid $500 for the entire setup (rebuilt calipers)

Anyone Heard Of This Modification?
JIBBBY replied to IS350andGS430's topic in 07 - 13 Lexus IS250 / IS350 / IS-F
Got to love power to both rear tires... Makes a big difference in traction.... -
-
The spacers I got are the best spacers money can buy at ($150) for two spacers.. Not cheap but very very good spacers. I had used spacers that failed without the center hub lip... The key is getting longer studs if you can't get more then 6 full lug nut turns when mounting your rim. Longer wheel studs provide more thread grab for the lug nuts, that is something you need to watch when using wheel spacers. This inturn creates more strength if your using a cheap loose no hub lip type spacer... That is my experience with spacers over the years... I think I have some pic's...Good luck.. Kragen auto parts sells longer wheel studs for the Lexus cars at $3 each...

You mean smoke the one rear tire not tires. There is no limited slip differential on the IS350 that I am aware of... Also the lexus intakes on older and newer models flow decent, you are not going to notice any power increases unless you go with a cold air box intake, even with that you may not notice anything. If you want to notice power gains and improved gas mileage you need to look into exhaust flow upgrades. With exhaust upgrades when you hit the gas you will clearly notice an improvement in power.. I do not base these opinions on my car alone but on others that I have seen... Good luck... -
Very true the KAAZ differentials are adjustable but you will always have some noise, and the LSD needs a recommended maintenance of every 2000 miles which is rediculous....
-
I first tried the KAAZ LSD on my 1992 SC400 it was very aggresive and noisy around turns, I loved it for the traction but hated it for the noise when turning...Click, click, click..It was almost like a detoit locker LSD. Had to dump it... Went with a 1993 torsen tt Supra LSD, not as aggresive, no noise, and it drives like the open end differential and still has the LSD capabilities, not as good as the Kaaz traction wise, but good enough... I like it and the gearing matched perfect with my SC400... Found it at a local junk yard for I think around $400 almost a year ago and bolted right in with no problems to speak of...

Stay on topic fella's.... That is the problem with politics and religion disagreements exculate into something more...Infact that is how wars start in most cases. Respect other people's opinions and beliefs, but disagree if you have a valid point.. That is the way I see it.. We are all Americans in this great country fighting for the same cause, I hope.....

I respect everyones opinion, but I gave this some more thought even after dismissing the notion of it being legit. My main question is how do you make a commercial airplane disapear and 100 or passengers aswell that supposedly didn't crash into the pentagon? I still think there are way too many missing pieces to this conspiracy theory....
