  1. it will not work. your '02 has Gen3 nav system. your brother's is gen 4. the data DVD actually has different part numbers as well. none of the DVDs sold on the ebay are compatible with gen3 system. i have '02 as well and i searched literally three months for an update. i ended up just paying $250 at my local dealer and got a copy. updating is brainless. eject the old one and insert the new into the nav dvd reader under the passenger seat. it takes about two minutes to upgrade the software as well. once you upgrade you can not go back to old data dvd. let me know if you want the exact part number. and part numbers of common ones that would not work with our gen3 systems. D.J. . ← MADKOW- could you post the exact part number? I'm having the same issues. Thanks.
  2. Not sure about the es250, but the fuse box on my es300 is behind the change drawer that's located where the driver's left knee would be. You just lift up on it, it pops out, and behind it are the fuses.
  3. HAAHA... I think i'll have to pass on that one... i might just call anyways and talk to the service technician to see what they say. One member awhile back posted really good instructions on how to get back there without taking the plenum off. Once I get all the tools I need i'm going to try it. Thanks for the help.
  4. Steviej- That's a great idea. I guess i never thought about doing the front 3 and having the dealer do the back 3. If you don't mind me asking, do you remember how much that cost you???? Thanks.
  5. Just in case there's still any confusion over the PCV valve location, i edited this pic of my engine to show you. The arrows point to it, it's not the small black cable in the foreground, its the larger black hose in the background. Follow this hose to the right towards the headlights and you will find the valve. The black dianostic port unclips right off without having to unbolt anything. Hope this helps.
  6. Correct, once the boot breaks all the grease leaks out and dirt gets in and up into the axle. So, someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I think what has to be replaced is the joint, boot, and axle. Some places tried to only replace only the joint and boot, but once the boot busts you need to replace axle too or the clicking sound will come back (from my previous experience).
  7. That would be my guess. My accord and maxima both had that problem. From what I gathered, once you hear clicking you must replace the axle too. I think it was about $200-$250 per side.
  8. My average with about 80% highway is about 25 mpg. I just changed my PCV valve, this should improve gas milage a little. Ford 212- Have fun in Destin, I've been there many times. You're not too far from me. I go to school in Murfreesboro (i'm from germantown). In regards to spark plugs, I would also like to change mine sometime soon. Honestly, I think I'm just going to pay to have it done. I tried the other day just to see how hard it was to get back there, it's the middle one that i couldn't fit the ratchet back there. VCV10guy posted up a link to a user who explained how to get the the spark plugs. Anyways, good luck. here it is
  9. No way, that's totally wrong.. Cadillac has made incredible progress over the past 10 years. To beginwith, Cadillac does not compete with Lexus. Cadillac is in direct competition with BMW. ← IMO, i would have to completely disagree with that. Cadillac in competition with BMW? Their target market's are totally different. I guess where I come from, the mean age of cadillac owners is about 60. BMW seems to cater more to the 30-55 crowd. BMW's german background allows for a sporty feel, Cadillac's are just mushy cars. I will say I can't comment on the new smaller model(forget what its called), but IMO a Deville and a 745IL do not compare at all. And comparing Buick with Acura? This makes about as much sense to me as comparing cadillac to bmw. As for the comment I made about cadillac being crappy the past 10 years, this is just my opinion and from my own experiences with cadillac. We had an '88 DeVille that was one of the most solid cars ever. The '00 DeVille was the biggest piece of crap. It was constantly in the shop. Not only that, but the dealer wrecked it, bondo-ed it, and tried to cover it up!!!!! Service dept was horrible. There's my two cents about cadillac, take it as you will.
  10. Name: Wes L. Place: Germantown, TN Age: 21 s*x: Male Car Make Owned: 1998 Lexus ES300 1. Are you single or married? Single (In a Relationship) 2. If yes to number 1 do you have kids? If so how many? None 3. What type of activities do you do for fun in your leisure time? Involved with Campus Crusade for Christ, hang out with my girlfriend, mess with my car, LOC! 4. Do you consider your self liberal or conservative? Definitely Conservative 5. Describe you feelings towards the importance of money v. family? Family all the way. Money is just a "stumbling block", when I get too wrapped up in it I lose sight of what's really important. 6. Do you feel that luxurious possessions improve your social status? Yes, but if that's your goal behind buying luxurious things (improving your social status), your priorities are really messed up. 7. Please rate the following on a scale of 1-10, 1 being very low, 10 being very high and 5 being average: Mercedes-Benz: Quality: 7 Value: 3 Fit/Finish: 6 Performance: 7 Lexus: Quality: 9 Value: 9 Fit/Finish: 10 Performance: 8 Toyota: Quality: 8 Value: 8 Fit/Finish: 8 Performance: 7 Acura: Quality: 8 Value: 7 Fit/Finish: 7 Performance: 8 Audi: Quality: 9 Value: 7 Fit/Finish: 8 Performance: 9 BMW: Quality: 9 Value: 6 Fit/Finish: 9 Performance: 10 8. What do you feel the most important feature in a car is (Price, Safety, and Style etc.) and why? Safety, reliability, and style. Safety is important for obvious reasons, but I spend a lot of time in the car and want to feel safe. Reliability because I want to drive something I know I can rely on, and something that's not going to be expensive to own. Style, because I want something that looks good for it's age. 9. Describe your general feelings toward the Lexus brand? I really think they offer the best luxury car out of any other brand. They're reliability is un-matched, and they design the best looking cars out on the road. 10. What words come to mind when you think about Lexus and their brand image? Classy, perfection, sexy 11. How do you view Lexus v. their main competition (BMW, Mercedes, etc.) in quality, value, fit/finish and brand image? Lexus really has their own "niche." For the most part, their owners are looking for styling and reliability in a car. If you're looking for a sports car, chances are you won't like Lexus. Quality is like no other competitor. Take for example the first LS. These cars were introduced PERFECT. 12. What is the main purpose you use your luxury vehicle for? (i.e. work, travel joyriding etc.) Driving to school, driving to work (80 miles roundtrip), or driving back home (about twice a month, about 500 miles roundtrip). 13. If you do not own a Lexus would you consider purchasing one? Why or why not? N/A 14. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being very low/no commitment, 10 being very high and 5 being neutral, please rate your commitment to the Lexus brand. 9 15. What factors/incidents would cause you to switch brands of cars? Honestly, if I had to do a major repair on my maticulously maintained car, like transmission or engine, I would be very dissapointed. The only other brand that approaches the reliability of toyota is honda, and they are just uncomfortable, loud cars (even acuras).
  11. That either really *BLEEP*es you off, or makes you laugh REALLY hard. I personally got a good laugh out of it. Hmmm.. i forget, who makes Cadillac? Oh yeah, that's right, GM. Heard anything in the news lately about their profits???? They just posted a first quarter loss of 1.1 BILLION. This guy's living in a fantasy world. I personally believe cadillac used to be a good car, but they've gone no where but downhill the past 10 years. You can't even compare a cadillac to a lexus. I'm all about supporting domestic companies, but these day's in respect to cars, it's just not a smart financial decision. Now I will say GM trucks seemed to be designed for the long haul, my family has owned many chevy tahoe's/silverado's that have held up quite well.
  12. I've noticed that when my windows are only half down and i close my door, they make a loud sound and rattle back and forth. Is that what you're talking about? If so i would really like to fix this, it sounds really cheap.
  13. Good luck josh! Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I have high respect for people who serve our country!
  14. Okay- Finally found it (PCV), it was really nasty. No wonder why I couldn't find it, it was buried in about an inch of funk.It was also pretty hard to pull out, but i just kept pulling and the sucker finally came out. So I'm definitely glad I changed it, thanks for the help everyone
  15. Thanks everyone! So what I can see from the pic that camlex posted, it's here???: Army- I'll take a pic tomorrow if still needed. Thanks.
  16. I have a couple of questions PCV valve location, and spark plugs. PIC 1: Where is the darn thing (PCV)? I understand it's on the passenger side somewhere. PIC 2: Is it one of these(PCV)? PIC 3: I pulled out a spark plug, does this look really bad? The brand says DENSO, these aren't the orginals, are they? I've noticed sometimes after my car sits overnight and I go to start it, it runs really rough and kinda shakes for about 30 seconds. My guess is the spark plugs, but the back 3 look like HELL to get to. Has anyone had experience with this before? What kind of spark plugs should I use? I have a guy down the street that only charges $10/hour for labor! He said he would do it, he's done it before on a toyota V6. Thanks for your help! BTW, its a 98 ES300 w/119k miles. Hope my pics work, sorry if they're too big, i'm still learning :D
  17. In response to 1995 es300's question, i had mind done at the lexus dealer for $165. Toyota dealer quoted me $150, but I figured have a loaner car, let alone a NEW lexus, was worth the $15 bucks. That was about 10k miles ago, car still shifts like it was new ('98 ES w/118k).

  21. Does anyone know where I could find a detailed maintenance schedule online? I can't seem to find it with the paperwork that came with the car. I've tried searching through google with no luck. Thanks.
  22. Army- Are you not able to get the USAA loan? I just sold my mom's 2003 accord to one of my best friends about to go into the army. I think he's going to be an officer though and he's already signed, maybe that's the difference. Anyways, he got 3.5% financing with NO credit, no down payment, they just used his future income as the basis for the loan. He's able to defer the payments up to one year too. But I guess keep in mind that this was a 03 with only 17k miles, so my guess is it still qualified for new car financing, but still. I would check USAA if you haven't already since you're in the service. Good luck.
  23. No one seems to know. We have an 02 LX in the family and I tried buying a version off ebay and it didn't work. I posted a couple months ago the same question without any reply. I guess it's something you might just have to eat the costs and let the dealter do it. Good Luck.
  24. My 1998 ES300, and mom's new but used 2002 ES300. Although I spend most of the time at college, but I figure her's counts for something. I'm gonna try to post a pic, never done it before so bear with me.
