  1. ooh I never thought of that. Would this be a sign it's going out? I hope not, because that sounds expensive.
  2. I've always assumed that dealers would put the crap cars they didn't want in their lot on ebay to dump them on someone in another state so they didn't get a bad rep locally. They just shine them up real nice and sell them on ebay to some unsuspecting bidder. I mean, why would they sell a car on ebay for less than they could sell at their lot, unless there was something wrong with it that would create a hassle for them down the road locally? It doesn't make sense to me. I think the only way I'd buy one on ebay is if it were a private party seller, not some used car dealership you see on the side of the highway. Because my thinking is with a private party, they probably think "hey I'll just list it on ebay to get maximum exposure" or something like that.
  3. After I have driven my car for a while so that it's warmed up (like when I go to the store or something) and then leave it sitting for 15-45 minutes and come back and start it, I get this weird kind of quiet, low roar sound coming from the rear. It usually lasts 5-10 seconds then goes away. The sound doesn't happen if I turn it off then start it back up immediately, or if I start it back up after an hour or so or overnight or something, it's specifically in that 15-45 minute window. (give or take a few minutes on either end) I have rushed out of the car to try and figure out where it's coming from and it sounds like maybe the exhaust, but while you're in the car it sounds like it's coming from the driver side rear wheel area..I don't get it. Does anyone else have this problem or is it a common thing? btw it's a 93 es300 with 76k on it
  4. I got mine off ebay. It was something like $85 shipped. brand new too - there are several radiator sellers on there. It's metal too, not that crap plastic that cracks..that's what happened to my old rad, it had a fatty crack along the top.
  5. just hit 76k today on my 93..I've put 10,000 on it in 6 months
  6. I replaced my radiator with an aftermarket one and it has that cap on it too. Why do you need to take it off?
  7. here is a pic: it has that insert that lets you have the pocket on the bottom or you take the insert out for the 2-din size
  8. contrary to popular belief 2-din cd player mounting kits do exist for the 92-96 es300s. I found some on ebay. I wish I had known this before I spent all this money on an ipod and cables and stuff. :(
  9. I had this exact problem, it turns out there was a bulge in one of my tires. I replaced it and my car drives like new.
  10. for the waxing...when my mom's explorer got rear ended, they repainted the rear hatch and said not to wax it for a month or so because the chemicals in the paint needed that long to fully dry and settle. they said if we waxed it too early, the chemicals would get trapped and bubbles could form.
  11. I always hit my foot on that little thing when moving from brake to gas...it's annoying. I am 6'2" and a size 13 shoe also, another inch of headroom would've done wonders...
  12. I'd use the tape adapter to get sound out of the main speakers. I'd only have the amp hooked up to some subs, the other speakers will be running off the headunit. Also mp3 quality is really good, especially if you have it encoded at 160kbps and up. VBR mp3's are good too. I use nero right now to burn cd's, and it burns the mp3's directly to the disc without converting them back to wav's to save time, and they sound fine. I'm not an audiophile or anything so it won't make a difference. I installed a panasonic mp3 cd player in my girlfriend's car and it sounded fine too. plus this is a good excuse to buy an ipod. :) thanks!
  13. I want to keep the factory deck, which is why I don't have any rca plugs. I don't know how I feel about the itrip, it sounds like it would be like any other fm broadcaster thing..it would only be radio quality. My plan is to buy a headphone jack splitter, run the tape adapter off one end and the headphone to rca adapter off the other end, and then hook the amp onto that rca cable. So yeah the ipod would be hooked up directly to the amp. My question is, is this a viable option? It seems like it should work, and I don't know how the ipod would be damaged..it would just be the same as the amp getting signal from the headunit, except it's getting it from the ipod instead. The power for the amp is coming straight from the battery of the car so it's not gonna add like some huge power load, or at least thats what I would assume. I think I'm gonna go for it. maybe I'll post updates about my adventure in hacking ipods into lexus stereos. pray that I don't make my car catch on fire or something.
  14. The FAQ doesn't say anything about a double-din bezel, only the single one, which I don't want because it would look out of place. that double-din one I showed would reasonably flow with the rest of the car and it keeps the 2-din size.
  15. I think I can honestly say I have no idea what stereophonic sound is.
  16. OK so I was brainstorming about my audio debacle. Someone suggested an ipod, but that didn't solve the issue of having no RCA jacks. But I found these little puppies online: headphone jack splitter (turns one female headphone jack into two female jacks) and headphone to rca splitter (hook rca cables into the headphone jack) I figured I would plug the 2 headphone splitter into the ipod, plug the tape adapter into one plug and the rca splitter into the other one, then run the amp off those RCA's. Would that work? Or would my ipod explode? Help!
  17. you could get around $10,000 in the seattle area for that car.
  18. sorry guys, didn't mean to start a flame war. quick update, I just went on a 500 mile trip a few days ago and after that I haven't smelled anything. could be a fluke but we'll see what happens over the next week or so!
  19. anybody know about the bezel/install kit and how it looks or if there's anything even available?
  20. yeah but that still doesn't really solve the rca issue. also I heard that the tape adapters don't sound as good.
  21. Hey so I'm sick of my stereo now. I hate having to get into the trunk to change CD's. My CD changer is sensitive to CDR's. And the lack of RCA outs is kind of the last straw. So, I've been looking at in-dash 2-din mp3 cd players and I found this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=5756280502 I decided on that one because it is the sleekest looking one out there. I didn't want something that wouldn't match at all, and this one kinda matches the interior. My main concern is this though-this receiver has a basically rectangular shape. My stock unit has more of a curved, trapezoid kind of shape. How would this work? Are there bezels you can buy or mounting kits to make it fit better? Or has anyone here installed a 2-din size receiver and have experience to share? Or some pictures of it? Thanks!
  22. that half-moon thing sounds familiar. I'll have to take a look at that because before I got the valve cover gaskets fixed I remember seeing oil all over that I think. ugh. oh well..whatever it takes I guess! :)
  23. That sounds about right. My car has been leaking oil and I had the valve cover gasket and pcv replaced about a week ago. It's leaked since I owned it (not a lot, like there would be a few drops on the ground after I leave it overnight) but I only started noticing the burning smell after I switched to synthetic. I'm not super mechanically inclined, but I do know a few things. Don't worry about offending me though :) I have owned a few CRX's before my es300 and I always worked on them. But they're so much simpler..I didn't trust myself to do the valve cover gasket :) One other question, besides the transaxle, are there any other places it could be leaking? Would the oilpan do it? Thanks for the info guys!
  24. my last oil change I decided to switch to synthetic. I have a 93 es300 with 75k on it now. I bought it probably...8 months ago? And I had used regular oil up until the last oil change. Now after driving for like 5-10 mins I can smell a burning oil smell. It's kinda fluctuates on the intensity of the smell, but it's never unbearable or anything. Anyway should I switch back to regular oil? Help :(
