  1. A mechanic friend of mine told me all about the difference between real time and "book" time. Mechanics always charge book time (what the shop manual estimates the time spent on a project would be, usually a high estimate) and then will add on to that if it takes longer. So yes, if the book says it's a 3 hour job and it only takes an hour, you get charged for 3 hours.
  2. From what I know, timing belt, water pump, etc all done at once shouldn't be more than $500. Yes it's normal to get all those replaced at the same time, because it's easier to get to all that all at once instead of replacing them as they go. As for the axel, I have no idea.
  3. why don't you just go to les schwab or discount tire and use their tire simulator computer thingy. you choose your car, then choose what rims/tires you want and it does it all in front of you so you can see what it looks like. then a sales guy can tell you how much it will cost.
  4. oh, one last quick question: which of those two would you recommend? would it even make a difference having the cheap one over the other one?
  5. when you say they're pure garbage, what do you mean by that? do they pop and hiss through the speakers or what? I'll be adding an amp to power a couple of subs so sound clarity isn't exactly my highest priority. just as long as the subs know when to pound, that's good enough for me :)
  6. hey dudes, I have a quick question. I read in SK's faq about using a line level converter on the stock system since it doesn't have any RCA outputs in the back. I was wondering if these are what he was talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5733569709&rd=1 or http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5733825798&rd=1 If they are, how exactly are those installed? It sounds like they run off of the speaker wires? Also just out of curiosity, I was wondering if I can add an aftermarket CD changer that can play mp3's. I saw some universal ones that play off the FM channel on the radio, but I was wondering if they were worth it or not? Are they CD quality or do they sound all fuzzy like the radio? Thanks!
  7. are my fogs supposed to be aimed higher than my headlights? I aimed my car at my garage about 20 feet away. my headlight beams (low) were probably 2-3 feet from the ground, but my fogs were closer to 4 1/2 feet high. Is this normal? If not, how do you aim the fog lights? I heard there is a screw somewhere under the car but I don't know for sure. Do they have left/right up/down adjusters like the headlamps do? oh also I just remembered, I just read that the 94-96 tails will fit a 93, but I also read that the lighting was updated. Does this mean you have to rewire things to get the newer ones to work or are they just plug and play? thanks!!
  8. ah I see. that's good 6000k is fine but people think higher number = better bulbs..I hate getting blinded by deep blue or purple hid's. congrats on the purchase then B)
  9. looks like they're fuzzy and purple...I'm guessing you went with like a 10000k set? 4300k is optimal, 5500k is probably the highest you should go.
  10. yeah I'm gonna try to reinstall the bulb again when I get a chance..it's the low beam in front of the battery. what a horrible place for the battery, they couldn't have put it in 1" further back? oh well. I'm guessing now that it's just the bulb isn't in straight because the high beam is aligned fine, just the low beam is aimed at like a 45 degree angle towards the ground.
  11. Hey I don't have an owner's manual or anything for my 93 es300, and I searched on here and found nothing..I just installed silverstars and now the aim for the left headlight is all screwed up, the low beam points way lower than the driver's side. is there a manual adjustment thing somewhere? On my old civic there was a bolt you could tighten or loosen that would move the headlights up/down but I couldn't find anything on my car...any help would be appreciated!
  12. At times my climate control is tempermental. I'll have it cranked all the way to "hot" but it won't blow hot air, it will stay cool. I can hear the little motors moving around behind the dash, so I'm guessing there could be a sensor somewhere that's to blame? I tried searching but I didn't know what to search for, and I came up with nothing on this... please help thanks :) Oh, btw skperformance, thanks for that sweet faq you wrote :)
  13. mine was jammed when I bought my car, so I took it apart and took the magazine out, unloaded and reloaded all the cd's, then put it back in. it works now.
  14. Hey everybody, I just bought a 93 Es300 with only 66k miles on it. It's an awesome car, I absolutely love it! HOwever I do have some questions about it since I've never owned a toyota before. First, I just read that there are overheating issues for the 92-93 models. Was there ever a TSB or recall about this? What components go wrong to cause this? My radiator has a crack in it and the engine got pretty hot the other day but I dunno if the crack caused it or this supposed overheating problem.. Second, the girl who sold it to me lost both the master key and the keyless entry key, so all I have is the valet key. Can the lexus dealer make me a new master and keyless set our of my valet one, or can they somehow cut a new one for me? Third, does the stock stereo have outputs for another amp? I've decided to probably keep the stock system to keep it looking nice, but I want to add a sub or at least some nicer 6x9's. And lastly, how in the heck do you get the oil filter out of there? I can't possibly see how you'd get it out from underneath the car, is there a trick to it? Thanks guys! I love the car already, I'm very happy with it. :) **edit** so yeah, you can tell I'm new, I typed my username into the title field when posting this message..ugh
