  1. Maybe since the ES350 is purchased by a large number of "mature" buyers they've opted to keep things familiar??? could be, good point
  2. ok guys, here's the thing you all seem to admire the gated shifter, but virtually everything else in the car is electronic..drive by wire, etc. why stick (no pun intended) with the old-school shifter have it work like the BMW, and everyone would likely adjust and end up liking it better, as I am sure was the case with most of the computer controlled features eh?
  3. ahhhh, gotcha, thanks steve feels awkward and old school to me, but guess it makes sense
  4. in the continuing spirit of complaining about the es350,lol... let's see if anyone else also has been at least slightly bothered by this the shifter design seems archaic in the jagged pattern it takes through the different gears why can't it be a little slicker/smoother, something similar to the beemer, or one of the others am I alone again in being bothered by this nit-picking item?
  5. if you are talking about the continuing decline of the American economy as the more developing countries move up, I am part of the .001% of the people that understand, agree with you, and do not see how this trend can be reversed..very scary I am reading into your words correctly, or you are thinking something else?
  6. agree that brand is huge and hyundai has more than a tad of catching up to accomplish, but look, they have made enormous progress the name hyundai used to only be used as the punchline of a joke, and we all know that is not the case anymore..especially on the lower end..the sonata has taken share from them all lexus and the others better watch their backs as hyundai will likely continue to get strong reviews, and increase share in the more expensive markets
  7. YES. Very frustrating..should be able to see the pressure in all tires on display!!
  8. look, you went to the shop to get it fixed, so not sure what the inconvenience is, but I would take it back and have them make it right you paid for it so let um complete the job properly..that would *BLEEP* me off, and I would be right back there
  9. no personal experience with them, but I wouldn't take a chance !Removed! with something like that
  10. http://lexusenthusiast.com/2011/08/15/2012-lexus-es-350-information/
  11. the tank average is for the current tank, and resets every time you fill up the average is for the entire mileage of the car
  12. perhaps, but I suspect the difference would be marginal, and would not even be noticed in normal driving, even with fast accelerations I have tried all the different octanes, and without doing a full out 0-60, but with significant acceleration, I could not feel the difference Will we ever leave here and get back to Kansas?? lol, strong point...guess we have exhausted this topic a bit

  14. see the other post for tire pressure info, again, lol
  15. we have been through this the higher the pressure the rougher the ride, but the better the handling (though a bit more dangerous in slippery conditions) you were complaining about a rough ride, so it was suggested that you go with the Lexus recommendation of 30psi all around that will give you the ride designed for that car, smooth and quiet if the ride is still rough after putting the proper 30psi all around, the problem is not the tire pressure don't know where you read to increase pressure for smooth ride, but it is wrong!
  16. the lower mileage in traffic makes sense of course, but still no explanation for the computer's inconsistency
  17. my understanding of brake assist systems is that they help you brake when trying to stop super quick never tried it, but to check it out, I would imagine you would have to brake real quick and hard, and see if you can feel the brake assist system kick in to stop you quicker then you would be able to do on your own you got me curious..without locking um up like some maniac, lol, I'll give it a try to see if I can feel the system kick in So...? Did you give it a try to see if you can feel the system kick in? saw your note here and it reminded me to try it out tried it a few times today, and could not notice any "brake assist" when braking fast perhaps the system kicked in and I just didnt notice it perhaps the circumstances have to be different, then just braking hard, to activate the system, though I have no idea what that scenerio would be or what value it would have..seems to me that trying to stop fast should do it if fact, I posted here once that I thought the brakes were not as responsive as they should be with quick stops, and characterized the brake feel as "spongy" most, if not all of the participants of that thread, disagreed with me, and said the braking feel was fine for quick stops do you think they feel "spongy" for quick stops? Not sure about "spongy". Was just wondering where's the "assist" in brake assist? I don't feel anything. However, in my old 2006 ES330, I could. When I went down a hill and I tap the brake or press it down lightly, I could feel something kick in, like a mini jolt, and I could literally feel the car slowing down a bit more on my behalf. Not so in the 2010 ES350. pretty sure what you were feeling when you braked lightly going down hill, was the transmission down-shifting, not the brake assist no idea how to test the brake assist..it might have kicked in when I tried the fast stops, but I definitely could not feel anything
  18. hard to find the right adjective, but I think cars in general look better with "simple" designs and minimal bling, like chrome, etc., wether luxury or sport I have always thought that beemers are the best looking cars hands down..simple, but nice design styles, no goofy ornaments they just look good guess it is hard to debate taste, though I sure we will continue to do so,lol
  19. let me go at it another way for those of you who prefer the chrome on the es (everybody but me apparently, lol), would you like chrome on your car if it was a sportier model, or on board with car makers that it would not be aesthetically pleasing there?
  20. I'm actually not wrong, I've been driving luxury cars and been a luxury car enthusiast for a LONG time, I have watched very closely how these styling trends go, and the "sportier" the model is supposed to be, the less chrome the designer puts into the design. Been this way for years. I'm not saying whether its a good or bad thing, which is why its not a matter of taste, but it IS the way manufacturers style vehicles. All you have to do is look at the cars within a manufacturer's lineup to see that the "sportier" models have less chrome. Look at the DTS Cadillac vs the CTS. Look at the 7 series vs the 3 series BMW, look at the M5 vs a 535i. Look at a CLK Mercedes vs a S class. Look at a Rolls Royce vs a Bentley. Even more downmarket, look at the Ford Edge, the "Sport" model replaces all the chrome with matte black trim. In general styling trends have been moving away from chrome, but you do see it making a little bit of a comeback. Aftermarket is meaningless, I'm talking about how MANUFACTURERS style their models. Personally I like chrome on a car, THAT is a matter of taste but the statement that sportier cars in general have less chrome than more luxury minded cars isn't a "matter of taste", just look at the cars a carmaker puts on the market... I conceded in sentence one of my post that that might be the current trend with car makers my point was that chrome, whether on a luxury, or sport car, is JUST a matter of taste, and I cite the large chrome after market parts business for sports cars, as proof that chrome is popular on sports cars regardless the manufacturers design trends perhaps we are in agreement, eh? Actually, i don't think aftermarket chrome parts are as popular as they used to be. Take chrome rims... are they really a big deal anymore? yeah, I think so..anecdotal evidence, but I still see a lot of them
  21. can you feel a difference? I assume yes from your excitement, lol
  22. sounds like a good idea, never seen it
  23. yeah, I agree that the stopping time is fine, was just complaining about the feel not really an issue for me anymore, having the car for a bit now (10k+ miles)
