  1. Good point about the warranty. That means at a reading of 2 mph lower we're being cheated out of 2,000 miles of coverage on the basic warranty of 50,000 miles. (Is my math correct?) My '96 Camry also read about 2-3 mph lower at 50 mph - a little less at lower speeds, a little more at higher speeds. Someone (is there an attorney in the house?) should raise this with Lexus. Warranty aside, I don't mind the slightly lower reading - tends to keep me off the radar screens. ok, site seems to work when replying in general, but not to another post anyway math above is all hosed up...also, idea about being off radar screens is a*s backwards if the speedometer is reading lower than the actual, mileage will be less than the actual, and your warranty will last longer the math needs to be done as a percentage, not using raw mph example: if your speedometer is 2.5mph off at 50mph, that is 5%, so the odometer will be off 5%, or 2,500 miles at 50,000 miles if speedometer is 5% less than actual, you cheated them out of the miles, if the speedometer is greater than the actual, you got screwed out of some miles as for staying off the radar screens you will get MORE tickets if your speedometer is to low cause you are going faster than indicated!!! if people have the speedometers off in both directions, there goes the conspiracy theory for the warranties
  2. all wrong - I will elaborate if this posts..been having trouble getting this thing to work
  3. ahhhh, strong point...if they are all off, and all wrong in the direction of showing higher speeds than actual, you have to think it is intentional
  4. I just bought a gps and it confirmed what I suspected for awhile, my speedometer is off about 2 mph also. Reads 37 vs. 35 on gps. I checked the speed of my 2010 ES350 with my Garmin from Walmart and Lexus was also off by 2 mph. ok, this one of by 6% or so...that is a lot by anyone's standard at 70mph, this speedo will say 74..not good
  5. tire pressure will affect speedo accuracy, but it should be pretty marginal...2mph sounds a lot unless your speed is pretty high if the speedo is reading too high, as it is in this case, you might have your tires over-inflated take out some air to test the theory if you like..it will get it closer but you will lose some handling as to whether or not 2mph is worth complaining a bout, DEPENDS on the speed at which it is off by 2mph 2mph at 20 is horrible..at 60 that speedometer is a complete piece of sh*t 2mph at 100 is just an annoyance, but even that should be better IMO getting it right, with some margin of error allowed for tire pressure, should not be a difficult thing
  6. Indeed. This crowd has built themselves a system that they are addicted to, and that system requires more and more money to feed. So they are always looking for new ways to feed their addiction..camera tickets, casinos, etc....they will become more and more inventive The worst thing about it is that it can't be stopped, cause guess who is watching the hen house, correct my Lexus friends, it is the fox of course ============================= hey, anyone know what after market parts I need to install to match the performance of the car in the video that literally and figuratively can beat the camera But Rob, YOU and I, and all citizens are the Fox. We have the government we voted in. We are the ones who lack the backbone to do with a little less or pay a little more so someone who has none can at least eat once a day. We get what we give. Our locale is no different from yours. We too have multiple casinos. They are packed all hours of the day and night. The state, we tax payers, make a fortune off of them in tax revenues. At the same time, the state, again read that "we tax payers", also sponsor a 1-800-BETS-OFF line for problem gamblers. Call me crazy, but isn't there a problem with cause and effect here? Everybody thinks governments are rich, city, county, state, federal; Because they collect other peoples money and deal in sums that average citizens usually can't grasp. The taxpayers think the government has to be lieing and just wasting money. The cities DO need the money as do many of the states. The question is how do the chickens get over that "trust" thing with the Fox, and how do you satisfy the Fox's taste for more and more chicken? Yeah, I know. I do go on. Sorry. "We are the ones who lack the backbone to do with a little less or pay a little more so someone who has none can at least eat once a day." I am a little taken back by your words I quoted here. You have really drank the Kool-Aid! Do you really believe we do not pay enough tax to feed the poor. Enough tax is collected to feed the poor in this country for multiple lifetimes. It can be done with the money wasted, money stolen, or by cutting just one insanely expensive useless program or undertaking. Yes, we get to vote, and agree that there is too much apathy, but the problem is that nobody with good intentions can break into the system to even run for office. To do it, you need enormous personal wealth, and the organization to move the many obstacles that have been constructed. I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one since we are so diametrically opposed in our thinking. If your bringing Kool-Aid, make mine Cheery!!LOL The Tea Party already did what you just said can't be done. And they put a bunch of people in congress who are really shaking up things. They started out with just being fed up!! I didn't say I agree with them, but you gotta respect them. I agree. Lets move on to making a gas pump that can customize a blend of 93 & 87 octane. Paul Kool-Aid is on me my friend, any flavor, any time always enjoy the banter here with you, Steve, and the others

  9. It's completely out of control. We are going to have a casino somewhere in my area soon which will absolutely create unbearable traffic conditions in an already way congested area. Everyone knows it is a horrible idea. The most avid gamblers are also completely against it. Only the politicians, seeing big revenues, are for it. And they are pushing it forward. So sickening. The masses are hoping that as it gets closer, the ground swell of opposition will kill it, but it is hard to fight these guys. Red light camera tickets have increased in price from $50 to $65. Pure greed!! They figured if $50 was good, $65 is better. Chance is 0.0 that the $15 increase will increase the deterrent, but it is a lot more in their coffers. Absolute proof they are not interested in safety.
  10. ....and I understand that, I really do. When your in freeway traffic and your not the lead dog, you'd better keep up. What I don't understand is the mentality that speed limits are only for generating revenue, and if I run a red light and hit someone, I shouldn't be punished because it was just turning red. I don't know if speed cameras and red light cameras are good or bad but lord, it begs the obvious that if you don't run the red light you've got no worries. Pretty simple. Paul Paul, here's the thing. Camera enforced traffic signals are a very, very slippery slop. The argument that you have no worries if you don't run red lights misses the point. What is next, I am sure you have your breaking point. Would it be camera enforced speed limits? No speeding, no worries, eh? How bout having your car searched. Nothing illegal in car, no worries, eh? How bout having you phone tapped, or your house search, same question. Sometimes we have to give up some of our freedoms for the better good, perhaps being harassed a bit at airports is a justified example, but even question the value of that. For me, the point is about civility and respect for the guy next to you. There isn't enough bandwidth on this forum for everyone to voice their opinion about the red light camera debate. The real question is why do so many of us try to beat that red light when it would only take another 90-120 seconds off our trip to wait for a green light. Do we think about anyone else in that intersection besides our own sense of entitlement. If you always drive 10 mph over the limit should you get a ticket at 11mph How do I know your driving safely. What are the criteria. How do you know I am driving safely. The limits are there to establish standards that can meet almost all drivers needs. Certainly an exception would be WV that SW wrote about. Maybe on Interstates we need an "Autobahn" lane. You missed my point Paul. I am not advocating running red lights. And of course I am on the side of safety and civility. Just don't want to see an expansion of big brother tactics. If we are honest with ourselves, I think we all know when we are driving safely.

  12. With that logic, if the limit was 60, you would drive 70. If he limit was 70, you would drive 80. If the limit was 80 you would drive 90..and on until you red lined I guess. So what speed do you propose is "driving safely"? o stop, there is no speed limit on earth where driving 10mph over is not safe as long as traffic permits it...speed limits are always set conservatively, and, of course, the limit will never get you close to the red line
  13. speeding tickets for 10mph over the limit are silly if you are otherwise driving safely these tickets are likely encouraged to increase revenues very frustrating!!!
  14. NY is brutal. Lot's of check points looking for seat belts, expired reg or inspection, cell phones. Camera enforced traffic signals have recently become extremely popular. HUGE revenue generator. That money will certainly be wasted on sweetheart deals and outright theft like a big chunk of the already sick amount of tax collected in NY. If they start issuing camera enforced speeding tickets (I fully anticipate that), driving will be an absolute nightmare! Agree that 10mph over the limit is a way safer play than 15mph, but if traffic is moving well, keeping it under 15mph over the limit is reasonably safe. Tailgating, weaving in and out, or any aggressive driving sticks out like a sore thumb and will surely get you some unwanted attention.
  15. nice..it's good know that you don't have to go some horribly low speed to get decent highway mileage I have played with different speeds, keeping an eye on the mpg display, and have noticed that it does go down a bit at higher speeds, but it is not significant I try to keep it just under 80 for 65 speed limits and just under 70 for 55 speed limits...usually won't get stopped at less than 15mph over the limit..tough to keep that discipline though....with the es ride, it feels like you can get out and walk even at 80 or so, so 55 is virtually impossible to maintain, like standing still
  16. where did you hear about those 2 items?
  17. There certainly is some interesting competition to the ES out there right now. From Buick, Lincoln, Audi, Infiniti, Acura, the list goes on. I'm sure that Lexus realizes this, so hopefully the new ES will stay at or near the top of the Entry Level Luxury pack. yeah, i totally agree....competitors have really caught up...will be interesting to see if lexus can innovate a bit at this point i drove all the cars you mentioned, before buying the 2011 es, and as we have discussed here on this forum, it was a close call...especially the infiniti When we bought our car the Infiniti G37x was on our short list. Nice car. Good value too IMO. yeah, infiniti g37x was a close second choice for me....great style, much better performance than the es, with all the benefits of awd at a bit lower price..unfortunately just a tad small for my taste

  19. interesting Steve...if that is the case, probably not quake related since a decision like that would have to be made more in advance..takes time to re-tool the line, etc.
  20. agree that the japanese culture is unique...no looting, etc. this entire time... here's the thing..if the worst is behind them, then ok, full steam ahead...but my guess is that it could get much worse with ramifications that could last for some time just a big unknown in my mind..so too risky to count on anything
  21. not wringing hands in despair..just looking at the situation, and speculating as accurately as I can....my take is that japan will be derailed marginally or more significantly for some time to come..japanese authorites have lied throughout the events..perhaps it will be business as usual, but I am on the other side of that bet
  22. Very good point. When the current gen came out in 2006 as a 2007 model, a number of owners complained about transmission and engine noise issues, as well as other issues. I had an early build 2007 that was problem free but it is safer to wait a model year or two to be sure that any bugs are worked out. very true, guess it is a tough call..will be made a lot easier if lexus turns out something that a typical es owner does not want tough to see lexus making a mistake like that, but **it happens...if they are looking to lower the price point a bit, it could definitely happen
  23. I hear ya...I bought my 2011 a few months ago cause the tranny in my maxima was on its last leg, but I definitely would have waited with the new 2012 coming out big assumption, but assuming lexus does not have production problems, you should see the 2012's in 6-7 months, so not too bad Well if that's the case,i just might wait 6/7 Mos BTW: Will the 2011 get less expensive in 6/7 mos.? absolutely..even if there is less inventory than usual, they will certainly be discounted

  25. perhaps paul, but my thinking is that we are getting a lot of spin out of japan, and when all is said and done, that country will be devastated for a long time from both a human and financial perspective....hopefully my gut is wrong on this one
