Of course when you say 350 chevy i automatically thought silverado, my mistake. those ARE gas hogs LOL. i had forgotten breifely that GM's crossplatforming allows the 350 to be used in everything from a camaro to a cadillac.
-
I retract my previous statement, 36 may be possible in a corvette or a camaro....maybe.
-
28mpg on open road.... yes.. i've averaged that with my ls400.. but... you know... same speed.. same everything i have averaged 36 with the ls6. it has 110hp more and a lot of more torque.... the ls400 IS A GAS GUZZLER compared to an ls1. PERIOD.. even on city driving the ls6 will give you WAY better gas mileage.... ← You want to run that by me again? I have a 2.0L, Less than HAlf the engine of an LS6 or an LS1, With a 5 speed...and i can BARELY average 40mpg on the open freeway, and that is DAMNED GOOD for a car that isnt a hybrid. There is no way in God's green eart an LS^ or an LS1 gets 36MPH on the freeway in anything other than the chevy SSR (maybe it because it doesnt weigh much). My car weighs 2,000 lbs and has 130ish HP stock from the factory. its average is clearly stated at 25/33. maybe...just MAYBE, an SSR at 55mph, with no wind, downhill with the clutch pushed in....MIGHT...hit 36mpg for a few miles....maybe. But there is no way it averagew better, (or anywhere near the same) as my car on the open road. i go almost 400 freeway miles on 10 gallons of gas. thast about 36-40 MPH average, lets do the math on yours, my friend has a silverado Z71 with the 350 vortec. he gets about 400 miles on a tank of gas, if hes lucky, and his tank is 27 gallons. do the math, 400/27=14.81mpg. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/MPG.do?acti...87&browser=true check it out. i would believe 25, not 36.

I will get a new battery, but i think that jp imporrtz may be my best bet. I am so tired of messing with this car. ← JPI is your best bet. Trust me. he did well over $4,000 worth fo work to my old ES250.

yep, its normal, my ES250 did it. the concorde does it. the F-150 does it too. :)

Pinging After Turning The Car Off
ArmyofOne replied to kaygee68's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
Negative, no cause for concern. Most cars do this, it is the exhaust system (namely the heat sheild and the cat) contracting as the metal cools down. not a problem. :D -
SO...Im curious to see who's audio system is powered by what. Ill start with mine: -Metra Dash Kit for the Ford ZX-2 -JL Audio 10W2v2.4 10" Subwoofer -Elemental Designs Ported Enclosure -Alpine Type~S Coax in the front and rear -Dynamat -Kenwood KDC-318 HU (recently replaced the KDC 1028) -Kenwood Amplifier -Rockford Fosgate 8 gauge amplifier wiring kit. so im powered by a combination of brands. what about you guys, are you brand loyal?

the LS4's 1UZ-FE's fuel economy is bad? since when? Ask blake, who averages something like 28mpg...with over 260,000 miles on the clock! NO General Motors engine could get that good fo mileage with that many miles on original internals. sorry, cant be done. the GM will never get that good of mileage brand new, or nearly new, becuase they run too rich to begin with.

www.discounttiredirect.com like $80 a piece, Falken Zeix ZE-512. Hands down the BEST high performance/general use tire IMO. ← It all depends on your desires. The Falken is a sportier tire. The smoothest tire I've found is the Bridgestone Turanza LSV. I drove a Michelin MX4 at the same time and the Turanza was much quieter. ← I will have to see if they come in my size!!! ← I drove with turanzas and Falkens Back ot back on the same car (my mothers Concorde Limited) the Falkens were quiter, hands down. they arent a Sporty tire. they are a high-performance/Luxury All-Season. they come in sizes from 195/65/R15 to 265/45/ZR18, and even some 20 inch sizes are now accomidated. trust me, Sumitomo knows what they are doing. with a treadwear rating of 420, expect over 60,000 miles of treadlife.

I did have a purpose behind messing with him though. He wont forget to check that ever again his entire career. Lack of attention to detail is what kills alot of soldiers. we deploy in less than a year, and while im not an NCO, it is still my responsibility to correct something thats wrong. the army is a team. it is how we function. Whats really bad is, 9x out of 10, neglingence could not only kill you, it could kill your buddy. and by regulation he has to do what i ask (within reason) anyways, im E-2P and he's E-1. :D

Damn NC, good to hear. sounds like an experienced mechanic. Have them put a set fo wheels and tires from another car like yours on it and see if it does it on your car still if so put your wheels back on, cause it aint them. hopefully they dont charge you for it. sounds like he knows what he is doing. :) BLAKE: if your reading this, call me, i aint heard from ya in a while, im kinda worried

Well, today we got our first few inches of snow. It stuck to everything and i had to go out in it anyways to drop the escort off at the paint shop (getting a few rust spots sanded off and chipgaurd installed and painted to match), so i figured i would take the car for a little spin. My buddy following me in a 1997 Chevy Blazer, had brand new (i mean put on yesterday) Firestone Destination A/T radials, and i was getting around better than he was when he was in 4WD. The Escort was stuck to the road. and the roads were slick too! I had an occaisional slip, but nothing too drastic. It was blizzard conditions for a few minutes with ice already formingon the roads and i was pushing right along. i pulled into an empty parking lot and slammed on the brakes. I surprisingly had to do very little pumping to come to a stop from 15 MPH. (I have no ABS). My buddy in the blaazer, slid right past me, with ABS, for another 30 feet or so. further into the testing back ont he roads, we ran into some snow drifts on a state hwy. speed limit was 55, i proceeded cautiously at 35 or so, went around a curve with no problem. my buddy's blazer nearly slid off the road. Everyone was sliding everywhere, cars were in ditches all over the place, but the falkens stuck to the road like GLUE. Overall, i woudl say the Falkens performed FANTASTICALLY in the snow. Again, i would reccomend them to anyone looking for an incredible ride, Low road noise, (the ride in my escort is quiet as the dead) Excellent price (i paid $64 a piece for 195-65-R15's) and incredible wet and snow traction, the Falken is a great choice. any specific questions?

I love playing with the new guys in the motorpool! Yesterday, we got this new private. Today he asked me to help him figure out why this humvee wouldnt start cause he had looked all around. I asked if he was sure he looked all around, he said he was, so as we walked the 100 feet or so to the truck, the following conversation ensued: Me: "you say it wont even crank?" Him: "thats right man." I go about my usual troubleshooting and look at the gear shifter. its in D (Drive). It has a neutral Saftey switch. But i didnt tell him that. I put it in N (because Humvees dont have Park, only R, N, D, D1, D2, D3). and i crank it, it fires right up first time through. He is standing off to the side, so he doesnt see this. Him: " I dont know, maybe its intermittent?" Me: "yeah, Maybe." I secretly slipped it back into D as i shut it off. Me: "Give it a shot" he tries it, no start. at this point im about to bust out laughing, but i keep my cool. I tried it again, He was standing there this time, but he didnt see me put it in N cause i shut the door. I turned the start switch, it fires right up again. Now he's scratching his head and i have a big smile on my face. I shut it off and slipped it back into drive. Then i let him do it one more time. He turns the switch...nothing. Now, i could have let this go for hours, but i didnt have that much time to waste, so i said: "hey...put it in Neutral man..." Him: "Oh man, i feel like a complete idoit" He puts it in Neutral and it fires right up. I had a humongous smile on my face. he said "wait...you *BLEEP*!" and he busted out laughing. I said, "next time, make sure you check EVERYTHING, kid." Hope i taught him to be more observant. :)

The snow tires are on, we got about 3 inches today, the Falkens did fantastic!

Nah, bring it to me. I WILL solve it. If it was built by a human, than it can be fixed by a human. last resort though. i'm willing to bet i narrowed it down over the net for you. :) I see it all the time with hummvee's, because the damned operators will drive them until literally, the wheels fall off. i had one come in just today that needed drive axles and diff mounts because the jackass operator decided he was going to try to climb over a rock, and smackedthe diff as he slid off the thing, Bringing both rear wheels off the ground, snapping the mounts for the diff and shoving the diff up into the bed of the humvee, thus high-centering himself most effectively.

Yeah, i know, they are getting painted flat black when they come out next time. for now, i will just put tire dressing on them. and yes, i do always have something to share. I love to photograph things, its kind of a hobby of mine. and im considering getting a new digital camera. because my phone takes better pix than this kodak! Its very beautiful up here, you will see alot more pix from me im sure. I also ordered new plates on saturday. they say "ZX2NER" I did it to be different, it only cost me $38 plus tax for 2 plates and the change in the registration. not bad eh? Its kind fo the finishing touch for the car...but before the car is finished :)

NC, its the flux Capacitor. Replace it and your wobble will go away. In all actuality, I have a hunch. A friend's LS430 had a VERY similar problem to what you are describing a year ago. I finally narrowed it down to a warped halfshaft. The alxe that goes from the differential to the wheel, it was just SLIGHTLY out of line. Put the car up on jackstands (rear only), and start it. have a friend put it in drive and let off the brake. With no weight the wheels should spin forward under their own powr, with no accelerator pressure. Watch the left rear halfshaft and tell me what you see. I am willing to bet thats your wobble. When they warp, its not usually enough to see, just enough to be felt. And no, it wont do any permanent damage to the differential unless its bent really bad, or it breaks. Rare that they break. I see this all the time on Humvees, which ironically, use a very similar setup to the LS400 in the rear. Upper and lower control arms, upper and lower ball joints, strut rods, etc. I see warped drive axles alot. I also would recomend replacing your tires, but thats because im brand loyal to one kind of tire: Falken Zeix ZE-512's B) Call me and we can discuss further. 803-556-1710.

The town of Alexandria Bay, or A-Bay, as its so affectionately called is a tiny little town, full of resorts. There are 3 stoplights, a harbor and a few bars. all and all its really quaint, and a great place to take a few pix. God i wish i had a better camera, these would have turned out fantastic! So, without further ado, welcome to Alexandria Bay! ^see what i mean? if i had a better camera.

dude, he has seen at least 2 per week every time i had been in there, which is alot! I can personally vouch for it, every time i was there there was a new engine slugde problem. there is always an ES300 or 330 in one of his bays with this issue. as far as there not being enough ES's, have you EVER BEEN to dallas TX? people have lots of $$$. ES's are EVERYWHERE there. i would estimate well over a million and a half of them spread out over the model years. people drive from other states just to have JPI work ont here cars. ask Blake he drives from louisiana. I drove 70 miles one way for all of my work on my 250.

More pix of the ZX-2, alot of them didnt turn out, but i want to show em anyways. you get the idea of what i was trying to do. on the overhead shots, there is a lightpole next to the car, my camera just sucks at picking up light. ^nasty gouge in the bumper? no, cobweb from parking half the night. ^see what i mean about the light? plus its blurry cause i took it as i slipped on a rock and darn near fell on my behind. ^me and my ride! ^My buddy Brandon and my ride! ^New headlights with flash. ^New headlights without flash. ^good pic of the Limited Edition Mineral Grey Metallic Paint. minus the dust on my lens. ^decent front shot
