  1. I had always taken extremely good care of my '94ES until I traded it in on an '03ES and that's why I got top dollar for this trade in. People couldn't understand why I wanted to trade it in 'cause it looked and ran like new......and it had only 53K miles on it. I just wanted a new car. I would never let any car that I've owned, "fall apart". Weighing the pros and cons of leasing or buying, dollar for dollar I'm way ahead of the game by buying it outright.
  2. Hey, old timer........I gotcha by 11 years(71)!! I just put a rear spoiler on my '03ES and I've been getting lots of compliments from the young as well as the old. I wanted my new car to look a little different than the original ES's that came from the factory. Come on.....be young at heart and DO IT!
  3. As far As I'm concerned, I buy! It has proven in the long run the cheapest way of buying a car. Naturally you have to have the $ to do this. If you don't, the next best thing is to take a loan from a bank that'll give you the lowest interest rate. Leasing a car is the most expensive way of purchasing a car. If you can write off this lease as a business deduction all the better. The only thing about a lease or a loan that I don't like is the car really doesn't belong to you until it's paid off. Finally, you have to weigh these alternatives and see what works for you.
  4. Open the moonroof and spray the tracks with either, Lithium grease or WD-40 and see if that helps.
  5. So, the timing belt doesn't have to be changed for another 20k miles, but I would change the fluids and than enjoy your new car. I don't know whether the spark plugs were changed at 60K miles, but as you said you feel the car was maintained properly so I don't know what to say in this respect. Good luck. :)
  6. H8R Proof, What do you mean?.......Is there a hole in the right rear fender where the antenna should be, or is the antenna staff missing?
  7. Need more information about the car to advise. Car model year, mileage, tire condition, etc. Personally I would change the fluids (engine oil, anti-freeze, transmission) just to play it safe. I didn't mention the timing belt 'cause I don't know the mileage on the car.
  8. I think it would be a good idea to read about alternators before saying that the Lexus alternators are crap. Lexus vehicles were designed to put out sufficient voltage and amperage under normal operating conditions, but if you find that this is not enough you can always change them to a higher output unit. Most people don't need to do this though unless they've added elecrical components that are very demanding such as high power audio systems, RF transmitting equipment, etc. The seat heaters of the earlier ES's were all pretty weak and it had nothing to do with the alternator. Read: http://www.misterfixit.com/alterntr.htm
  9. You can find it at most auto supply stores. Also stores like WalMart. ;)
  10. Design, man, design. :D It probably serves no purpose that I'm aware of, but the guy that buys a new car doesn't want his car to look like last years model. :P
  11. This is not a picture of the ES light assembly, but it'll give you some idea of the type of lines that are etched on the 95-96 ES's. The 92-94 ES's don't have those lines.
  12. 92-93ES- Driver side airbag only. Round yellow fog lights. ES300 badging in right rear tail assembly. 94ES- Added passenger airbag. Slight grill change. 95-96ES- ES300 badging moved onto trunk deck. Fog lights rectangular with a clear lens. Slight grill change. Front light assemblies have etched lines on the outer plastic covering. These are the visual changes I noticed, but there may be more that I'm not aware of.
  13. The cigarette lighter is next to the ashtray in the center console. You push in this panel (below the air conditioner controls) and it opens up.
  14. This wiseass has 1 bid on this car......probably from a friend who has zero feedback in his eBay profile. From the past type of auctions that he had it looks like he scours junk yards to get things to sell. Supposedly, he's owned this car for 4 1/2 years. Yeah right! He mentioned that the car had a "Branded Title". Here is description of what a Branded title is: A salvage vehicle is a vehicle damaged by collision, flood, or other occurrence to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value; or a vehicle that has been declared a salvage vehicle by an insurer or other state or jurisdiction, but is not precluded from further registration and titling (41-1a-1001). A rebuilt/restored vehicle is a salvage vehicle that has been repaired and restored to operation.
  15. Strange that the LS had only one position, "Super !Removed! Burn"??? My '94 ES had factory seat heaters with a rocker switch on the console that had low & high heater positions.
  16. This is a bogus car....I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole!!! :chairshot:
  17. A battery explosion could be caused by many reasons. If the electrolyte level in the battery was low there is the possibility that an electrical arcing(spark) took place between the plates within the battery. This would ignite the gases and cause the battery to explode. This can also happen if the terminal connectors on the battery were oxidized, and while cranking the engine a spark jumped and ignited the battery gases. Battery warranties vary, so it's impossible to tell how long this battery was warrantied for, unless you have the papers that came with this purchase. I think you should just replace the battery. These things happen, but it's generally an uncommom occurrence. If you replace it yourself be sure that the terminals are clean and tight. Put a light coat of grease over the terminals to prevent oxidation.
  18. The sensitivity of the embedded antennas are not as high as the staff type antennas. I noticed this right away in areas that were prone to multipath distortion. There is a fluttering sound as the signal goes up and down. This never happened with my '94ES. I like it better in one respect though.......it doesn't jam! P.S. There's nothing wrong with my radio! This happened with all the cars I drove with embedded antennas whether it was a Lexus or not.
  19. Road test of the Porsche Boxster: 0 - 60 Acceleration (sec): 5.8 1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 14.3 @ 99.9 Road Test of the '02 Lexus ES300: 0 - 60 (sec): 8.6 1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 16.6@84.4 Something wrong here!!! <_<
  20. I spoke to a Lexus executive and he told me that they will continue to have, EBD, VSC, and ABS in the new model and they're going to discontinue AVS. It seems the AVS wasn't that successful as far as sales were concerned.
  21. Sure the dealer wants you to come in for service sooner than the Lexus Corporation specifies. Very simple, they make more $$$$. ;)
  22. This happened to a co-workers Nissan 280Z on an outdoor Westside New York City parking lot. A flatbed truck picked up his car that had it's alarm blaring and drove off. Everybody who saw what was happening just looked, but nobody did anything to catch these crooks!
  23. If this option wasn't in the original equipment package for the car than I suggest you forget it.....It probably would cost a fortune to put it in, even if they could do it. P.S. If I didn't have it I wouldn't miss it!! Besides, the rear passengers should be very happy to be driving in such a beautiful car, so let em cook. hehehe :D
  24. The '02-03 ES's also have separate air conditioning controls for the rear seat passengers. I don't know what year they started that on the ES's. It could have on the '02 model???
  25. How does a pro beat the chip in the key to start your car? Like steviej said, "If a pro wants your car, they will get it in seconds." I didn't want an aftermarket alarm 'cause I didn't want an extra transmitter on my key ring and as it is I'm paying a lot for Auto Insurance, so let em take it if they're determined to steal it. ;)
