  1. I will definitely post back after the upgraded ECM is installed tomorrow morning. The weather forecast is thunder showers for tomorrow so I'll test it the best I can under these conditons. The service manager told me that the labor to do this is about 1 1/2 hours. I was surprised that it would take that much time. Does anyone know where this ECM is located in the car?

  3. I spoke to Lexus Corporation this morning to verify this service bulletin(TSB-TC004-03). They were very aware of it. I than called my local Lexus dealer who also knew about it and I have an appointment tomorrow morning to have this updated ECM software installed. Great!!! :D

  5. Man, I would complain to the Lexus Corporation about their shoddy service practices! As a Lexus owner you should expect better service than what you've been getting. Remember the old adage, "The squeaky wheel gets the oil".
  6. I can't believe they told you that! There MUST be a reason for this behavior. Didn't they try using any diagnostic equipment?
  7. Read some more about it here:My Webpage
  8. Concord, Welcome to the club. :D As far as your transmission problem......join the crowd ;) We're all eagerly awaiting this fix from Lexus. I already got this attitude from my dealers. They acted like I was the only one with these complaints!! Do like steviej said and print out these transmission discussions from this website, so they can't make a fool out of you.
  9. Yes, that's me. hehehe
  10. I was told by my dealer(East Coast) that AVS was going to be dropped in the '04ES since it didn't make a big hit with most customers. All '03ES's equipped with Nav/Mark Levinson radio came loaded with all the accessories except for the adjustable pedals and AVS in my area of the country.
  11. I don't know whether the 92-93 ES's had a beep, but my '94 had a control on the dashboard to change the volume of the beep when I locked or unlocked the doors. There must have been some sort of audible indication on your year car.....I think???
  12. As an example: In March '03 I traded in my immaculate '94ES w/53,000miles to my Lexus dealer and he allowed me $8000.00. He kept it in his used car area and it was sold within 1 week for $10,000. He had a price on the window for $12,000. Here's a recent picture of the car:
  13. Hey Joel, What day & time were you planning on being around Midwood? The funny thing is my son has a private garage on Rugby Road between Foster & Avenue H and I might be there Saturday or Sunday for awhile. :)
  14. You could use the cigarette lighter feed wire. I'm not sure whether this will give you power in the accessory position. This feed will give you at least 20 amps of power.
  15. Does this yellow light go out when you raise the rpm's of the engine? If it does, this light is probably indicating low oil pressure at idle. Low oil pressure at idle generally happens when the bearings(crankshaft and camshaft) are worn or possibly the oil pump is not working properly.
  16. My '03 ES has a 100 amp alternator. When designing the electrical system manufacturers figure how many amps are needed when using all the accessories so it will keep the battery properly charged. This is based on the resistance of the entire system. Naturally, as a car ages the resistance will probably rise, but at this point the area that causes this rise should be checked out with an ohm meter to find out where the culprit is.
  17. Can you explain to me why Lexus didn't put in a smaller pulley in the first place? I'm sure there must have been a balance between idling and road speeds that made them decide what RPM would be desireable at these different speeds. If you do road speeds with this smaller pulley I think it would put undue strain on the alternator bearings and other internal parts and possibly shorten it's life. If you need extra amperage I suggest you get a heavier duty alternator.
  18. I lived in Flatbush thru my high school years and I went to the "old gray school".....Erasmus Hall. It's nice to hear that you lived so close to me at one time.:) I was one of the few students that used to drive to school. I had a 1937 Ford that was one of the first cars that I experimented on modifying the engine. Lot's of fun. hehehe! Do you remember Garfields Restaurant? I hope the other members don't get mad at me for reminiscing.
  19. skperformance, Could you please type a little slower! I find it very difficult to understand some of your posts because of all the typos and spellings. Thank you, thank you, thank you. :chairshot:
  20. Manual transmission cars have two types of linkage, mechanical or hydraulic. I'm not familiar what the Lexus uses, but if it's the hydraulic type the slipping would not be corrected by adding fluid to this part of the clutch mechanism. Pushing down the clutch pedal, whether it's hydraulic or mechanical just serves to disengage the clutch and does not have anything to do with the slipping symptom that you described. The pressure plate or the clutch plate or both are probably worn out. The clutch plate has a friction material similar to brake linings and when that is worn down slipping occurs. I don't know how much they charge for this type of repair, but you can get an idea by calling a few repair shops. Naturally, Lexus Dealers would probably charge the most.
  21. I don't know whether this was mentioned before, but the moonroof is now considered standard equipment on the '02-'03 ES's.
  22. It certainly sounds like the clutch is shot. On a manual transmission 160k miles is considered great service, if that was the original clutch. Try not to drive the car hard because this slipping will cause the clutch to overheat and that'll weaken the springs which will make it even worse than it is now.
  23. Hey, jweiss, you made my day!! I live in Sheepshead Bay....of course you know where that is. Where did you live in Brooooklin. :D
  24. FYI: In the '02-'03 ES they eliminated the half stopping of the moonroof. When you press the button and let go it automatically closes fully. Originally this half stop in the earlier ES's was supposed to be a safety feature. Now if somebody obstructs the closing it automatically reverses direction.
