roger that, i want to do the tail of the dragon in the spring.

I hear Tail of the Dragon is great. Some guys from here rode it on bikes this summer.

I always enjoy this snake.

That's neat. A real zig zag.

Yeah, It's fun to drive . It is located on the northern tip of the penninsula in Wisconsin on Lake Michigan.

Hmmm...you remember any of the arguments we had some time ago about road safety?

Maybe you should read them again...

If I were you at this point I'd be trying to keep this one off the wrecker, and stay alive...

85 on those roads, in an Escort with crappy tires, and a passenger? When you've totalled two cars in the last year? In the middle of the day on a two lane road with hidden bends and curves and oncoming traffic during deer season? Jesus man. Its time to start looking at these things with some feeling of responsibility. Come on.

Crappy tires? They're brand new! Dealer just put 'em on. Granted they aren't the ones I wanted, but they will do for now. Some people will just never understand until they drive the car. I'll bring it down to DC and let you have a go. 85 was the max I hit, usually it was between 35-55, ocasionally I had to drop to 20, like when I passed through a few houses.

Its not like I do it often, and I''m not a complete idiot...blind curve= slow down and stay in your lane <_< Steve honestly it hurts to think that you would think I was anything but responsible. The 2 cars in the last year were a result of bad luck, had nothing to do with lack of driving skills trust me. I'll tell you what I told the guy on CL:

Its not like there's people around, the only person I endanger is myself and maybe my passenger, who I might add was there willingly and never told me to slow down or showed any sign of discomfort at my high speeds. I even asked if she wanted me to slow down, she said no, I was fine. There ain't no schools way out here. Its just trees and stuff. If I saw a house I slowed down. I take responsibility for my actions. I have been to 2 driving schools that teach high speed techniques and recovery, and have had MANY hours behind the wheel of a car just like this one. Im more than qualified to operate this vehcile at these speeds when the conditions are right. Its about 50 degrees and the weather was ok. no water or ice.

I also know the mechanics of this vehicle better than most people. If the car couldnt do it, I wouldnt have done it. I have torn these cars down and rebuilt them from the ground up many times. more than i can count on 2 hands.

I drove through doing the speed limit once, while the passenger took pix and i got a feel for the curves through the stretch of road i would be driving on. then we went back the other way at or below the speed limit. then we put everything away, turned off the stereo and away we went. dont preach to me, telling me im a moron for driving that fast. Thats the difference between me and the average driver, i know what im doing. and if i ****ed up, i had noone to blame for myself.i saw 3 cars the whole time i was out there. and one of em was in the pic that i took. so back off please. i may be young, but dont stereo type me because im 20, im not stupid like many other young people. There si a difference between my car and many others, the difference is, at that speed, my car is PINNED TO THE GROUND. no understeer, no oversteer, just grip.

I guess from now on ill keep my FUN high speed and not very often occuring outings to myself :whistles: sorry.

You sing your laurels as an experienced, skilled, and safe driver but you're ignoring the facts. You've totalled TWO CARS IN ONE YEAR. At fault both times if I remember correctly. You've got to grow up at some point and realize that this is not safe behavior. All it takes is one deer or one car coming around a bend when you don't expect it and bam, you're a dead man. So is your girlfriend, and so could be innocent bystanders.

Its not harmless, its reckless driving. You're a soldier in the United States Army, its time you start respecting this country's laws and the safety of the citizens around you. THATS what taking a position of leadership means. How can I respect you for fighting to protect us overseas if you constantly endanger our lives here at home?

If you're driving this way you are being irresponsible. Theres no way I would ever let you drive me in a motor vehicle.

If you were as skilled as you think you'd have better respect for what a car can do to you, your family, and people around you. I've taken all of the courses you've taken, but it doesn't mean I go careening around the byways of the US at 50mph over the speed limit. I'm smarter than that. I don't stereotype you because you're young, I'm young too. What you do behind the wheel of a car is immature, its juvenile, its dangerous, its illegal, and its gotten you two totalled cars in one year. Come on, intellegence has got to pop in at some point and make you say "You know, something doesn't work here..." Drivers like you give all young drivers a bad name and sky high insurance rates and those of us that operate vehicles responsibly and safely (which is the majority) don't need it. You're arrogant and over confident and one day it will get you killed.

Sorry to preach but I'm sick and tired of watching you go out and do stupid bull*BLEEP* like this, and then post about it like you're some kind of God. You're a criminal. You're going to kill yourself. I hope you'll listen to someone at some point, but if you don't I hope its you alone and its a tree so that nobody else gets hurt. I've seen it happen first hand.

If you want to pretend to be Mario Andretti, go to a track like a responsible law abiding adult. These are public roads man, and you have no idea what can be waiting for you just around the next bend. Jesus Christ.

Dude, LOL, be real with me. More importantly be real with yourself.

How you like to have fun? So now you can just vehemently break the law and endanger the lives of innocent motorists and its okay, because its fun, and you're the most gifted driver that has ever lived? Come on, read that to yourself a few times and then ask yourself why I and others react to it in the way that we do. Because its stupid.

I grew up driving on roads like that in the mountains of West Virginia. You're from Texas. You don't have roads like that in Texas. People die on roads like that every day and they die on them while operating their vehicles SAFELY. Drive on them a little bit more and you'll come across the damndest things around those bends. Hitchhikers, crazy people just walking around, dogs, deer, bears, oncoming cars in YOUR LANE. It might be good to you no, NOT BE GOING 85 MPH WHEN YOU FIND THESE THINGS.

I live plenty, I have a lot of fun, and I have a wonderful life. I am also a responsible adult. I don't need to drive 85 MPH on a country road with an innocent passenger to have "fun". You need to get on this "adult" thing too. If you're old enough to hold a gun, you're old enough to think about someone other than yourself when you decide to "have fun". You can have fun without being reckless and selfish. Thats something adults learn. As for the nearest track being 800 miles away, oh well?

As for your accidents, if you were behind the car you hit, you were at fault. You know that. From behind you should have had time to react to the behavior of a car in front of you. The only reasons you would not be able to do that outside of mechanical failure is you were going to fast, you didn't allow sufficient room between you and the car in front of you, or you weren't paying attention.

Yes, but there are appropriate places to learn how your car behaves in certain situation. What you've learned is how to drive the car at 50 MPH over the speed limit on a country road. Thats not going to help you avoid rear ending another car.

What you describe is an exercise people go through in empty parking lots in the rain and the snow. Driving at illegal speeds on two way roadways doesn't teach you anything about the car, at least not anything that you need to know.

I mean what were you preparing for, running away from a cartel of spanish druglords?

For the record my above post is in reference to a previous post by Josh in which he told me I needed to "have more fun" that he has since removed.

Oh dear god it's in the middle of nowhere, you can see what's comming, and it's good to know how far you can push a car.

I know a semi- truck came within feet of hitting me head on with both of us going 60mph. Had I not know exactly how quicka Protege could change lanes, I'd either be dead from a head on with a semi, or dead from spinning out & haivng someone t-bone me.

I grew up driving 140-160mph & driving through great twisties throguh northern Alabama, along with off-roading & some mild dirt racing.

Then again, I couldnt drive *BLEEP* on ice, never done it.

Christ just let it go!

This is more of a WTF!? for both of you than anything else at this point.

SW, starting in with the Army thing, that's fairly lame blow, especially from staff...

Just lock the thread and let it die sheesh.

I'll settle this via Pm's, no reason to let it drown LOC.
