calean007 Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 I have a 1992 Lexus LS400. The wood trim on the console where the gear shift is has chipped up and broken off in some areas. Rather than going to the dealership, I would like to know if anyone has a link(s) to where I could get that wood trim. also, possibly some tips on getting the old stuff up and laying the new down. I'm new to these forums and I couldn't find another section to put this in...
silvermate Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 ebay tends to have those center wood console pieces quite frenquently. also you could try salvage yards
LinuxFan Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 Yeah, ebay is what I was about to suggest as well. Just type lexus ls400 in the search field and hit enter. You are sure to find a few. Be careful you know what you are getting though -- some are plastic and just look like wood. I think ours are real wood. correct me there if I am wrong what I would like is a steering wheel with the wood for my 91
calean007 Posted May 6, 2004 Author Posted May 6, 2004 Well, I think it's plactic stuff anyway and not real wood...I didn't think any Lexus vehicle would be in a salvage yard or very hard to find at least...
Lexus. Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 It is real wood, albeit a very thin layer veneered onto plastic
silvermate Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 there are lexus all over the place in salvage yards, just like any other car. especially gen 1 just call around and you'll see ;)
calean007 Posted May 6, 2004 Author Posted May 6, 2004 Well I know they get wrecked, but I figured by the time I get to them they are stripped. Incidentally, how would I get that veneer off of that console in the salvage car?
UCF3 Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 Think about visiting Exoticwoods.com or some of the others listed after a Google Search. You can always custom cut them and have it Vaneered by an expert.
VMF Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 i would not recommend to put this "wood" trim kit for several reasons first of all, it fades away and starts cracking in a year or so it blocks signs on the audio unit if installed incorrectly would start coming out soon
