ketsac
I've noticed a knocking sound from the engine compartment at cold start-up's. Gone in 1-2 seconds. Guessing is a engine lubrication problem. I run Mobile 1 at 5-7 thousand mile intervals and the 2012 ES350 has ~60,000 easy miles in the AZ. sunshine. Is this development bad on the mechanics? Should I be alarmed? Any idea as to a cause and any potential fixes? Recommended oil aditives? How's that for four questions? Thanks for any assistance. chris
TrevC
Hi Chris Is it a knocking sound or a tapping sound (e.g. top end or bottom end of the engine)? Cheers, Trevor
ketsac
Greetings Trevor. I have little knowledge of auto mechanics however, it could be a tapping in that it is more of a high-end sound vs. a low-end knocking... If you made me guess, I'd call it Top-end tapping. Thx. chris
TrevC
If it's top end rattle e.g. hydraulic lifters priming up, then it shouldn't be anything to worry about if it disappears in 1-2 seconds. Mobil 1 is probably the best oil you can get so shouldn't worry about that unless its completely the wrong grade/spec for the car.
