amf1932 Posted April 25, 2004 Share Posted April 25, 2004 Toyota calls this a noise filter, but it's probably a bass cutoff filter that's used to prevent overloading the speakers at very low frequencies. amf1932 Posted April 26, 2004 Share Posted April 26, 2004 A bass cutoff removes the extreme low frequencies(below about 30hz) that you wouldn't normally hear anyway, but sucks up the amplifiers power and uses this power for the audible range of frequencies. amf1932 Posted April 26, 2004 Share Posted April 26, 2004 If you took it out you'd probably hear more distortion at high volume levels, but this is assuming that the filter is used as a low frequency cutoff.
