Acceleration Power

Does the acceleration power on the lexus es300 make a big difference in gas mileage? Or is it more pressure on the engine...sorry I am a newbie at cars.

No, I have a ext power button.

If you accelerate normally without the "ect power button" engaged you'll get your best gas mileage. If you accelerate hard with the "ect power button" engaged your gas mileage will suffer.

That must be a feature on the older ES models I assume? I've never seen or read about it on mine. What exactly is ti suppose to do?

The "ect power button" changes the engines RPM shift speeds. When engaged and starting from a dead stop the engine goes to a higher RPM before shifting to the next speed. By doing this, the car is shifting at a speed where it develops peak horsepower in each gear. The problem using this power button is, it's not considered to be the most economical as far as your gas mileage is concerned.

I don't know what year they dropped this feature, but my '94 ES had it.

ECT power, as it's called, is common to almost all Toyota vehicles with automatic transmissions from the Supra (the first car I think they put it in) to the Lexus models, but I have noticed that they no longer use it.

My roommates 98 Hyundai (i think its an Elantra) has an ECT button too.

The LS430 still has an ECT PWR button in 04, so they're still using it its just more sporadic.
