I actually think the above article sums up the situation pretty well. Hopefully the link works, on my iPod at the moment.

Excellent overview....thought provoking. Thanks for posting.

Question: I have been in the affirmative on the need to raise some taxes in order to clean up our debt load. Am I correct when I say that our current tax rates are the lowest they have been since the early 1950's?

I don't think that's what the democrats are all about, Lenore. I do think they're a more compassionate party, and more socially aware of things than the Republicans though. I'd not have a problem with this one bit, as I'd like to think I'm a compassionate person as well. My issue is paying for that compassion. I'm fine with paying for it, as there are a lot of innocent victims of circumstance in this country that need help, but I'm beginning to question if that's what is truley going on these days? Clinton was a very compassionate President (a little too much, but that's a different story). He was able to do a lot of good for the needy, and leave us with a balanced budget and cash surplus. But, he did it with tax increases disguised as tax credits and the like. Why Obama has taken the road of Jimmy Carter when he's got Clinton standing right there to guide him, is just stupid on all levels. Follow a one-termer who had his !Removed! handed to him from a Republicsn, and not follow a two-termer who handed a beloved republican his !Removed!...shows the inexperience in the DC game of Obama. Too late now, if you ask me.

The blame game that went on yesterday on TV from Obama made me want to puke. It's the tea party's fault. It's just some credit bureau... It's this, it's that..... Whatever.... It's YOUR Presidency dude! Act like you own it, or get the heck out of the way!

Being compassionate,is one thing, but really providing what people need ie a job, a skill, and having a system that monitors abuse is lacking...Drug testing, and monitoring progress is what is needed, and there should be a limit on time to meet this goal (not 25years or more)....Charity groups do a better job than the government when trying to achieve the help necessary...You can continue to give freebees but there should be a goal, light at the end to self sufficiency....Only the severly disabled should be on the dole, not folks that are in better physical condition than the aches and pains that most working folks live with day in and day out.

And yes you are right, at least Clinton knew how to run things, Obama is all about looking presidential....

Yes the blaming of the tea Party is really getting old, but like simple minds in the right, the simple minds in the left join in on that Mantra. Heck if anything the Tea Party which is a cross section of all americans fed up with the over reaching government has at least caused both parties to react to their rediculous spending spree.... They are a catalyst in the locked division to the two parties, Neither of the old guard party members like what they propose...(real change)

The need to raise taxes would have to be tied to a freeze in the current budget...otherwise they will continue to spend as always....shuffle the money, and the money would never go to its intended distination...

I must admit, as one of the few "W" fans left willing to admit it. I find it kind of funny that a guy, from Texas, who is the Gov. of Texas, who looks like the guy who played "W" in the movie, is running for President. How funny would the irony be if he were elected?

I admit, I kind of like his button-downed approach certain things. I see him as someone who might clean up the airwaves a bit. With a 3 year old in my life, I really notice how rude and crude public TV and radio has become. I miss the days of Tool Time, Cosby Show, etc.. Not that Two and a Half Men isn't funny, but I don't think I want my son knowing what Charlie's mom shaved..

I know, I know....parent's responsibility... yeah yeah yeah.

Way too radically christian for me...

One thing about W, as devout as he is he never prosthelytized his faith. Something you can't say for Perry... anyways you can't legislate culture. The country is culturally different than it was in the 80s.

I just finished reading W's book actually. Have you read it? Interesting read.

Fool me once....didn't fool me twice, absolutely will not fool me a third time with another Texas evangelical catering to big oil and bigger pockets. Interesting fact from last nights debate, there was not one use of, or mention of the word "middle class" during the whole Republican Presidential debate.

Yes cultural times are different from the 80's, but that may not be necessarily for the better in all sectors. Prime-time TV is way borderline on some of their shows IMO.

Better or not, you can't legislate values or culture.

And how glad I am for that, especially when the religious right tries to do it all the time. There are enough channels on cable or satellite to accommodate anyones needs. Just don't mess with my "Big Bang" program!! LOL

I like what this guy has to say, and I think some of it can't be denied by anyone for being pretty accurate, especially the part about "just another speech". The true gridlock of this continuing economic recession is strictly on the confidence level of us consumers, and without a clear path in front of us to follow, it's like we're all still standing at the same fork in the road, waiting for our "leaders" to pick a path to take.

Interesting piece. His opinions are as polarizing as those of the "Leaders" he talks about. If in fact we are at that proverbial fork in the road waiting for our leaders to LEAD, it is going to take someone who can take their gaze off of their own navel and concentrate on somebody else for more than five seconds to do the leading. At this point, apparently the navel of those currently in power in both parties must be incredibly fascinating, for they all seem to be hypnotized by it's power. The power to think only of staying in power and convincing us that it is our fault if they don't. We have the government we deserve. We paid for it. We tolerate it. Were just to darn nice to ever do anything about it. If it was just another speech, was the topic bad? Can we put some people to work? Our do we always have to let every thing be blocked by big boys with small minds?

Maybe this Man better explains the destruction that this administration has performed. Not sure when he actually presented this info, but it is truely very alarming.

Subject: FACTS ABOUT DR. CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER, MD

1. Born: March 13, 1950

2. Birthplace: New York City, New York

3. Raised in Montreal, Canada

4. Attended Mc Gill University and Harvard Medical School

5. 1972 diving accident left him paralyzed from the neck on down.

6. Directed psychiatric research for the Carter administration

7. Began writing career in 1981 with The New Republic

8. Helped develop the "Reagan Doctrine" in the 80's

9. Appointed to Presidential Council on Bioethics in 2002

Dr. Krauthammer is frequently on the Fox News Channel. He is an M.D., a lawyer and is paralyzed from the neck down. A friend went to hear Charles Krauthammer . He listened with 25 others in a closed room. What he says here, is NOT 2nd-hand but 1st. The ramifications are staggering for us, our children and their children.

Last Monday was a profound evening, Dr. Charles Krauthammer spoke to the Center for the American Experiment.. He is a brilliant intellectual, seasoned & articulate. He is forthright and careful in his analysis, and never resorts to emotions or personal insults. He is NOT a fear monger nor an extremist in his comments and views . He is a fiscal conservative, and has received a Pulitzer Prize for writing. He is a frequent contributor to Fox News and writes weekly for the Washington Post.

The entire room was held spellbound during his talk. I have summarized his comments, as we are living in uncharted waters economically and internationally.

Even 2 Dems at my table agreed with everything he said! If you feel like forwarding this to those who are open minded and have not drunk the Kool-Aid, feel free.

Summary of his comments:

1. Mr. Obama is a very intellectual, charming individual. He is not to be underestimated. He is a cool customer who doesn't show his emotions. It's very hard to know what's behind the mask. The taking down of the Clinton dynasty was an amazing accomplishment. The Clintons still do not understand what hit them. Obama was in the perfect place at the perfect time.

2. Obama has political skills comparable to Reagan and Clinton . He has a way of making you think he's on your side, agreeing with your position, while doing the opposite. Pay no attention to what he SAYS; rather, watch what he DOES!

3. Obama has a ruthless quest for power. He did not come to Washington to make something out of himself, but rather to change everything, including dismantling capitalism. He can't be straightforward on his ambitions, as the public would not go along. He has a heavy hand, and wants to level the playing field with income redistribution and punishment to the achievers of society. He would like to model the USA to Great Britain or Canada.

4. His three main goals are to control ENERGY, PUBLIC EDUCATION, and NATIONAL HEALTHCARE by the Federal government. He doesn't care about the auto or financial services industries, but got them as an early bonus. The cap and trade will add costs to everything and stifle growth. Paying for FREE college education is his goal. Most scary is his healthcare program, because if you make it FREE and add 46,000,000 people to a Medicare-type single-payer system, the costs will go through the roof. The only way to control costs is with massive RATIONING of services, like in Canada. God forbid!

5. He has surrounded himself with mostly far-left academic types. No one around him has ever even run a candy store. But they are going to try and run the auto, financial, banking and other industries. This obviously can't work in the long run. Obama is not a socialist; rather he's a far-left secular progressive bent on nothing short of revolution. He ran as a moderate, but will govern from the hard left. Again, watch what he does, not what he says.

6. Obama doesn't really see himself as President of the United States, but more as a ruler over the world. He sees himself above it all, trying to orchestrate and coordinate various countries and their agendas. He sees moral equivalency in all cultures. His apology tour in Germany and England was a prime example of how he sees America, as an imperialist nation that has been arrogant, rather than a great noble nation that has at times made errors. This is the first President ever who has chastised our allies and appeased our enemies!

7. He is now handing out goodies. He hopes that the bill (and pain) will not come due until after he is reelected in 2012. He would like to blame all problems on Bush from the past, and hopefully his successor in the future. He has a huge ego, and Dr. Krauthammer believes he is a narcissist.

8. Republicans are in the wilderness for a while, but will emerge strong. Republicans are pining for another Reagan, but there will never be another like him. Krauthammer believes Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty and Bobby Jindahl (except for his terrible speech in February) are the future of the party. Newt Gingrich is brilliant, but has baggage. Sarah Palin is sincere and intelligent, but needs to really be seriously boning up on facts and info if she is to be a serious candidate in the future. We need to return to the party of lower taxes, smaller government, personal responsibility, strong national defense, and state's rights.

9. The current level of spending is irresponsible and outrageous. We are spending trillions that we don't have. This could lead to hyperinflation, depression or worse. No country has ever spent themselves into prosperity. The media is giving Obama, Reid and Pelosi a pass because they love their agenda. But eventually the bill will come due and people will realize the huge bailouts didn't work, nor will the stimulus package. These were trillion-dollar payoffs to Obama's allies, unions and the Congress to placate the left, so he can get support for #4 above.

10. The election was over in mid-September when Lehman brothers failed, fear and panic swept in, we had an unpopular President, and the war was grinding on indefinitely without a clear outcome. The people are in pain, and the mantra of change caused people to act emotionally. Any Dem would have won this election; it was surprising it was as close as it was.

11. In 2012, if the unemployment rate is over 10%, Republicans will be swept back into power. If it's under 8%, the Dems continue to roll. If it's between 8-10%, it will be a dogfight. It will all be about the economy. I hope this gets you really thinking about what's happening in Washington and Congress. There is a left-wing revolution going on, according to Krauthammer, and he encourages us to keep the faith and join the loyal resistance. The work will be hard, but we're right on most issues and can reclaim our country, before it's far too late.

Do yourself a long term favor, send this to all who will listen to an intelligent assessment of the big picture. All our futures and children's futures depend on our good understanding of what is really going on in DC, and our action pursuant to that understanding!! It really IS up to each of us to take individual action!!

I believe he has a great perception of what is really going on...

How to take a good country and tear it apart;

Take opinions and call them facts....spread them around.

Use paranoia as an everyday part of your political platform. Never bother to check a rumor for fact, especially if it's about your opposing party.

Always assume the worst in the other person. Believe everything you hear about everyone.

If you start feeling paranoid or believing conspiracy theories, never have your own mind checked out by a professional.

Good lord, Lenore, you're certainly passionate about this, I'll give you that. I can see trying to change your mind that the Commies died with Rambo (part 3) is real, is going to be like trying to teach the cat to bark. So, I'll respectfully pass on this one!

What I think has happened is that Obama kind of got taken to the cleaners by some in his own party, some far more experienced and influential than him in those DC circles. We elected a man with very little experience in general, to oversee one if the greatest shifts of wealth in this nation's history. I think he got in over is head, and only a few key players saw it coming in 2008. Who were these players? Couldn't see them back then, but I think you can see them now.... Who's got the wealth? Find that answer, and you'll find the puppet master.

That being said, I kind if like where "he is at" now. I think he sees what has happened at his expense, is getting angry about it, and hopes to get four more years to fix it. I don't think he's an unfair President. I do think he was too green for the job at this crucial moment in our history. Two wars and an economic collapse would be a struggle for even the most experienced and wise President on earth. I know I couldnt do it. Well, I could, but I doubt I'd live to see the sunset...

I know Boston Properties quite well. Have done business with them in the past. They're one of the top five REITS in the game. Theyre smart, they're focused, and they're careful. But, they're also first in line to complain when it doesnt go their way. I know first hand. Tried to do two deals in DC that had big government leases awarded to the properties. Both times, BP was first to file a complaint about favoritism. Not because they had a better property to offer up for lease, but to basically block the potential success of someone else. It's viewed as dirty pool.

Some of what you say is true, but I see a man that picked his cabinet based on his true beliefs. I Know he is very inteligent, but his agenda has put this country in the worst possible position. If he really had gotten over it he would have moved more centralist like Bill Clinton did. He is truely an obstructionalist, in that he shows zero leadership....(I think on purpose) and because of this and his deep rooted beliefs will, and cannot move to the center. Funny if he did he would gain politically by showing that he is the one to compromise and solve the real problems. Funny the folks in the Beltway just cant see out of their little sub world that is isolated from what the rest in the US are experiencing. I know the economy is still a boom in the beltway, mostly because of the huge growth in Government...all at the expense of the millions that have lost their jobs elsewhere in the country. Most eleistist attack their opponents by referring to them in derogatory terms and trying to belittle them. The Ivy league bunch loves to belittle the folks that dont have their views. Quite frankly the rest of us whom have plain old common sense are what made this country so great...not a bunch of theorist, social doctrine, uptovia anarchist. Their is truely a sickness in the democratic party, showing the true mental disability that has struck a great deal of people that either are on the dole, or those that want power and give everything to these same folks. I think Obama is madd, like a child that has thrown a tantrum because he cant complete his irrational deed. Hopefully the nation will fix this by spanking his butt out in 2012 before he infects the whole population with his childish, destructive behavior. I also hope all of the old guard in both parties is kicked out, and we get some younger more centralist thinking folks that want to solve this nations problems...

How to take a good country and tear it apart;

Again attack because they are not your views, or views that you agree with...This is not conspiracy, it seems to be standard operating practice in this administration, from throwing out the Black panthers case of itimidation at places of polling, to selling guns to the cartel and than not admitting you knew anything about it. Then trying to sell us on green jobs and taking a loss of over a half of a billion to a failing solor company, with kickbacks to your campaign fund. And more to come... Seems like Chicago style politics at its best.

Maybe this Man better explains the destruction that this administration has performed. Not sure when he actually presented this info, but it is truely very alarming.

Wow!...I have no idea what your talking about now.

Beyond the theories and policies of his presidency, I don't think he's going to win in 2012 because I don't think he wants it anymore personally. I don't think his family want to be "in the bubble" anymore, and as a father myself, I know the weight of making a decision that makes your family unhappy.

If I were Barrack Obama, I would be sitting on the patio of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, thinking to myself the following:

I made to the Presidency

I made it into the history books as the first black man with all of the keys

I made it to great wealth

What more can I make here?

My performance numbers are getting as low as the guy I've been blaming prior to my arrival.

I've got protesters in every city

Gas prices are still high

Unemployment is still high

War is still continuing and expanding (Lybia).

We're sold out to the Chinese.

All good efforts that I have done, won't be seen by the American public for a few years anyway.

Oh, and my buddy Rahm is now the man running my home city, where we want to return to...

Why do I want to do this for another 4 years?

If you ask me, I personally detect some of this in his swagger now. If you don't want the job, don't ask me to hire you. I just went through this same thing the past few months. I was at the top of the ladder of what I do for a living, and nobody I care for personally was happy about it. That's why I resigned for another position in a place we want to be. I'm not on that top run of the ladder anymore, but much happier than I was when, I was. Oh, and making more money now too ;-). Obama is probably thinking the same thing.... Chicago is calling in his mind.

I hope your right NC, however his war chest is huge, and his popularity with most of the media which influences the John Does and Janes along with the metropolitan liberalism could put him back in office. My biggest fear is that it would be another 4years of nothing done to solve our countries problems and allow the economy to recover... Also in those years his health disaster will continue to downturn the economy due to all of the hidden laws that will further tear down our economic stability. Real health care reform would have included tort reform, and cost cutting measures. His plan just redistributes wealth and decreases benifits to existing medicare. THere are so many clauses that are going to tax us out of any chance of reducing debt. His support of class warefare has done nothing but divide this country further.
