Need Help Hardwiring A Radar Detector

ED.

Recommended Posts

Tried to hardwire an Escort X50 in my Fathers LS but could not find a solid 12V source that was on ACC---->ON. Saw a solid red wire but didn't want to use it assuming it was hot all the time.

Anyone hardwire up there before or have any wiring diagrams?

Thanks. Ed

I've always tied in behind the radio for hardwiring devices, but you could also hit the key switch, the lower dash panel is easy to get off and gain access to the column harness.

And don't assume color codes will match anything typical, 99% of manufacturers don't use the standard ME color codes like red for power, black for ground. In Toyota/Lexus cars, the grounds are white with a black stripe.

I hardwired a Valentine-One into my 2002 LS30. I did not use color codes or wiring diagrams but went to the fuse panel behind the passenger kick panel. I verified those wires that were only hot when the key was on. The wire to the device was run up under the A pillar covering and then under the plastic strip at the top of the widshield. I removed the pass. visor and exited the wire where the attachment point is and then reattached the visor. I also installed simple male/felmale plugs at the device end of the wire in the Lex and in my wife's vehicle so that I can switch the device betwen vehicles. Take your time and you will be fine.

I hardwired my V-1. I used the remote display and volume control and have the actually unit concealed since I live in VA and didn't wish to draw attention. I connected it to the lighter circuit which works with the key.
