  1. Two answers. 1. I have had my 2002 since new and have had only Michelin Primacys (or the previous equivalent). The dealer swapped out the garbage OEM Yokohamas at my request at delivery just to keep me as a customer. Yes, they do cost more but they last a very long time and are extremely quiet as well as providing the ride I wanted. They also have very low rolling resistance for better gas mileage. 2.Re: the tires leaking air. It may be a rim leak. I have experienced this on several wheels. They are chrome Lexus wheels and have been told that this is very common for the LS 430 chromes
  2. I have a 2002 LS and have had the same problem several times. I am told that the wheels from 01-04 tended to corrode. The chrome plating also tends to peel off. The tire shop told me that the only solution, if you intend to keep the wheels, is to remove the tires and carefully clean the insides of the rims. I have had some luck with deflating the tire and pushing the bead down while using a strong water spray. This lasts for a year or so. I'm installing new wheels next week as a permanent repair. Good luck.

    Thanks for the reply...good information.
  4. I would like to put new factory wheels on my 2002 LS 430. They are currently 16-inch and I want to keep them the same size. There are may alternatives from Lexus and Toyota but not in a 7-inch width. My question for you is; can I use 6.5 or 7.5 (-.5 or +.5) safely and without negatively affecting handling, braking, etc? Thanks.

Thanks, Steve. I'll try the swap today. Also, what does PCD stand for and what does it mean?
  6. Shortly after I purchased my 2002 LS 430, I installed a Motorola Bluetooth HF1000 Bluetooth Car Kit. It is a hardwired kit that doesn't go through the radio by performs perfectly. The voice recognition is excellent. I powered it from the fuse box in the passenger kick panel. It will take about two-three hours to install and cosst approx. $180. BTW a 2002 LS 430 with 30-K is a gem! I just turned 115K. Good luck. http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Bluetooth-HF1000-Car-Kit/dp/B0008IV508
  7. Hello everyone. My wife has finally decided that my LS 430 is a better car than her Caddy even though it is older and has three time the mileage. She does, however like the chrome wheels on her car better than those on the Lexus. I am wondering if I can swap the wheels between the two. The lug bolt spacing measures the same, but I have no clue about clearances for the calipers. Her Caddy is 2003 Deville...the Lexus si a 2002 LS 430. Same tires on both. Thanks
  8. I had the same problem a few weeks ago and got the solution here. Jumper.pdf
  9. Thanks Guru! I followed the instructions that you pointed me to and they worked perfectly. VSC code is gone.
  10. Thanks for th reply. I disconnected the battery which should have reset the codes but as soon as I stared the card and put it in drive, the light and chime activated.
  11. Hi all. Friday I took my 2002 LS 430 to my regular shop for some routine maintenance. They have been caring for my cars since 1990 with excellent results. I had the spark plugs changed, the coolant flushed and changed, and the brake fluid flushed and changed. Now I am getting a VCS and warning lights on the dash. No others just the VSC off and the exclamation point. When the car is first started there are no warning lights during POST but after I put it gear and begin to move forward, the lights come on. I searched for any loose wires and vacuum hoses but found none. I also disconnected the battery and cleaned the connections although they weren’t dirty. Any thoughts? BTW I searched the site but found only issues with multiple lights. Thanks
  12. I just ordered the update for my 2002 LS from Sewell Lexus in Dallas.
  13. I took the module out just last week due to the same issues. Once out, the switch comes apart fairly easily and it is very easy to clean the contacts. It is also easy to reinstall. Now it works like new. Take your time so as not to harm the material around the switch. Good Luck.
  14. Yesterday I noticed that one of my tires was down to 23 psi from 30. I inspected and soaped the entire tire and found nothing. Then I read the board. A couple of members told of their tires leaking where the tire meets the rim due to corrosion. I removed the tire and laid it flat and then poured a soap solution in the bead grove. Within seconds there were tiny bubbles. I marked the spot. I deflated the tire hoping I could inspect the area. I managed to safely pry the bead down a little and found no corrosion. However, I found a small bar-code label exactly where the leak was and where the tire meets the rim. I carefully removed the label, re-inflated the tire and the leak was gone. This is a 2002 with 97K in so Cal. The tire is a Michelin Primacy from Costco.
  15. I have had 5 or 6 side mirrors replaced when they wouldn't adjust or fold. Additionally. the PAX door controller had to be replaced once. Fortunately all were under warranty at +/- $500 each. If it happens again, now that I am out of warranty, I will most-likely adjust them and leave them alone.
  16. I have the iPod device in my 2003 ML/NAV but haven't had the problem that you are having. Try unpluging the unit from the cable that comes from the back of the radio. Do this with the key off. Drive the same route and see if it still make the noise. If it doesn't you may want to E-mail Vais directly. I had a problem with it interfering with the Nav unit and thy took care of it.
  17. I hardwired a Valentine-One into my 2002 LS30. I did not use color codes or wiring diagrams but went to the fuse panel behind the passenger kick panel. I verified those wires that were only hot when the key was on. The wire to the device was run up under the A pillar covering and then under the plastic strip at the top of the widshield. I removed the pass. visor and exited the wire where the attachment point is and then reattached the visor. I also installed simple male/felmale plugs at the device end of the wire in the Lex and in my wife's vehicle so that I can switch the device betwen vehicles. Take your time and you will be fine.
  18. Thanks to all who responded. In the past week, the coolant level has remained stable. I'm driving I-10 from the ocean to the Arizona border and then north to Nv. on Monday. So...we'll give it a good test then.
  19. Thanks. What [1] does the switch do? [2] what does it look like? [3] where do I find it?
  20. Thanks for the replies. Sometimes good comes out of bad and in this case when I put the car up on the ramps yesterday for a really close look with the engine covers off, I found that the transmission oil pan is seeping. Since my extended warranty is up at the end of October I’ll monitor the coolant a bit longer and then may have to have both repaired.
  21. Thanks for the reply. I had the cooling system flushed and new coolant added about 11 months ago. I checked the radiator and it was totally full.
  22. Hi, Lexi Fans. I have owned my 2002 LS since new and have no problems other than many mirror replacements. During my last oil change I noticed some dried pink coolant on some parts of the undercarriage. This led me to look at the overflow tank and discover that it was very low. I cleaned the exterior of the tank, added some water and marked the level. I drove 130 miles and checked the fluid and found that it had increased as expected. Twelve hours after parking, I checked it again and it was below the marked line. I repeated this with the same results. I have not found any evidence of leaking. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks
  23. For the past 17 years I have used nothing but the MXV4 Energy or the newer Primacy. When I purchased my LS new in 2002, the dealer was generous enought to (after many complaints about the Yokohamas (trash)) to provide a new set of the MXV4s. I have had great service from these tires. One additional bennefit to consider is that Michelins have very low rolling resistance.
  24. There is just one other thing that I'm curious about...I installed a VAIS Tech iPOD adapter about a year ago. I'm wondering if it can give off any signals that would disrupt the nav. I left them a message at their tech support and am now awaiting an answer. Thanks again.
