EDV Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 My dealer recommended I do a fuel injection cleaning for $170. He also recommended a A/C flush $229. Sounds like he's trying to take this lady for a ride. Most mechanics do so I am always worried if I really need these things or they are trying to make some extra money. I have a 2007 RX400h withb 35,000 miles. Anybody out there that can tell me the real deal? Thanks!
richard4u Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 i had a 1994 toyota with fuel injection until i bought my 2007 RX400h - in the 13 years i had the toyota i never had the injectors cleaned nor did i get any of the flushes they recommended -- guess what absolutely no problems = yes these are nice to do but i doubt if they are really needed - if you have too much money and want to go very first class then get it all done - these cars can go 200,000 miles with basic maintaince like oil changes etc. my final word is ------ if it ain't broke , dont fix it ------------ good luck - richard
RX400h Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 i agree - waste of money. I do throw a can of Techron concentrate in my older cars' gas tanks every year or so. Blowby gasses that are recirculated into the engine's intake contain a fair amount of oil aerosols. This oil and particulates tend to stick to valves and become carbon bulidup on pistons over time. While auto manufacturers are trying to come up with internal separation solutions, there is currently nothing out there that will "catch" all oil and particulates.

My dealer reccomends the fuel induction service be done as a part of the big 90k mile service which seemed reasonable. I have never had the A/C duct system cleaned on the Lexus, but did have it done on the Prius since it sits outside and it made the A/C smell nice and fresh... Neither NEEDS to be done...

katzjamr Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 at the 30K service when the dealer first brings this stuff up, (no one ever asked for the ac flush LOL) i told them to do only the items that toyota requires to keep the warranty in effect, no more and the bill went from $450 to $125. i did change the cabin filter at that time it gets pretty dirty. I also agree on the techron added to the gas from time to time, i like to do it just before a long trip, never had to do any other injector cleaning.

I use a store bought injector additive twice a year...thats all you will ever need...buy a good brand name one should be $5-$10 max

Neither NEEDS to be done... +1 Put another way, here's an excerpt from one of the specialist hybrid tech's: 5. EFI or fuel injector cleaning really not necessary until you see 100k, if you have a bad tank of gas, or if you start seeing misfires (and you'll see a check engine light when that happens.) . . . . . other possible [misfire] problems could include seal failures due to pressure (rare but possible.) since it doesn't idle, most techs will get in and stomp on the gas pedal until the EFI cleaner runs its course. this leads to a condition called "blinky check engine light" which means that you have overheated your catalyst and are in serious danger of melting the insides of your catalytic converter. Bottom line, as others already eloquently said, save you money.
EDV Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Thanks to all for the input. I kind of figured my car was a litttle to new for for cleaning injectors just yet if at all. I saw some discussion on the a/c filters and how to change a filter yourself that is behind the glove box. I think I will do that. I appreciate all the help. ;)
DrDaveMcc Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 I have a 2017 RC 350 FSport with 20k miles. Great engine with high performance from eco to sport plus settings. Having the injector cleaning done and will see if I see any change in performance and gas mileage. I keep cars for a long time (Had a Lexus GS300 for 15 years with 150k miles and never had a single problem). Regardless of opinions, I can afford to have it done and it’s worth peace of mind.
T J Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 (edited) I have a 2017 rx350, dealership is recommending front and rear differential fluid, hvac and injector refresher service. It has 60k miles and I purchased it at 40k, the vehicle sat for 5 months. Is this service necessary? I don’t mind paying for necessary things. I don’t want to throw money away. RX400h Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Your manual should include in it or in a separate manual, a maintenance schedule. If its not listed under 60K miles then you do not need to have it done under normal circumstances.
