Hey there!

Um, first I'd like to tell you a short story.

I'm from Slovakia, nearest Lexus reseller and service is 300km far.

Recently, the headmaster of company where I'm working gave me Lexus ES300 1995, bought in Canada, brought in 1997 to Slovakia. Someone could said, that it was best that could ever happend to me. At first day I cleaned the car and engine, made a leather renewal. Checked the oil, coolant, etc. everything was ok. Until this saturday morning 5am. HMaster also gave me all the papers from car, and I noticed, that there aren't mentioned few parts. Car has now 220.000 km. So I found this forum, and asking, if it is possible to have 220.000km car without ever changing fuel filter, transmittion oil and filter? Should I be aware that something could be damaged? I'm going to change them on Monday, do I need to check something else?

Problem: I don't have service manual/book, only papers that what was changed on the car and which parts were bought.

Yes, it probably would not hurt to change any of those parts. The fuel filter is not quite as essential if it is not causing trouble, but why not go ahead and change it.

136,000 miles = 220,000km. . that's not much of miles.

i would not change the transmission fluid because the new fluid acts like a detergent and will degrade the parts inside the transmission if the fluid was never changed before. if the fluid was changed regularly, then it's ok to change.

Personally, I feel like that is just a myth. My mechanic and Lexus dealer tell me it is, at least. I've helped a couple friends change transmission fluid on cars that have not had it changed for years will no ill effects.

I would check the transmission fluid, making sure it's of a transparent red color, with no burning odors.

If the transmission fluid appears brown, or has a burning smell, i would definitely change it.

Maybe it would sound like emotional.

But hell this car works like charm, even it is 13 yrs old.

I contacted Lexus service (that 300km far), they will send the transmittion filter soon.

Another question: What oil/fluid can I use in transmittion? I found shell donax tx, is it allright? In Lexus service, they told me, that they don't know exactly, because it's American version.

Welcome to LOC!

You will need Dexron III ATF fluid or equivalent. Try to get an owners manual from e-bay or order one through your dealer.

When was the last time a 'major' tune up was performed (Spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter & PCV Valve)?

Has the timing belt been changed yet?

Whenever I get a used vehicle, I change ALL the fluids to create a baseline for future maintenance. Power steering fluid and brake fluid are often overlooked ... until there is a system failure. If you can get DOT4 brake fluid, that would be a great upgrade during the brake flush. Other common problems with your car are easily changed sway bar bushings (symptom: clunking over bumps), and the upper engine mount ('dogbone') which will also clunk under acceleration with the worn bushings. Congrats on getting a free Lex as a company car, ride is style for free! :P

Sorry I'm late :-)

Well, 200.000km was last main tune up - belts, spark plugs, water pump all that was recommended by lexus dealer. PCV valve, that one I don't know. How would it behave, when something was wrong with PCV valve? I do change oil every 7.000km with oil filter, air filter every 14.000km, fuel filter every 21.000km - car is mostly driven in city. Equivalent for Dexron III is Donax TX.

Year ago I had a strange problem, engine check showed up and RPM was high on idle, even when the engine was warmed up. Diagnostics said that it is AIC, so I googled what to do about this problem and it just needed to clean it gently. It is fine, but there is another strange problem, I think it could be clutch. When driving at higher speeds (above 70km/h), the engine is not holding the RPM, so I don't brake with engine anymore, But I think it did few years ago. And I have another problem, that spark plugs that I bought for another change are NGK BKR5EP-11 for GS300 and for ES300 are BKR6EP-11.

My head is starting to ache :angry:
