VBdenny
I have played with the E C T button and put it on power. The only thing I notice is that it seems to hold in each gear longer. Does this switch change the engine timing or anything else? Just one of those things I was thinking about.
bartkat
That's about all it does plus it's supposed to give crisper shifts.
SKperformance
it just hold the gear longer and increase gas milage kind of a dummy button as if you need more power just press the gas and it does the same thing by holding the gearing changes
VBdenny
Yeah, but it sure looks cool when people are riding with you. I didn't notice much difference at all except that the Power E C T light comes on on the dash.
Jasoneo5
It stands for Electronically Controlled Transmission I beleive......but where did you hear that it helps IMPROVE gas milage? From my understanding, The higher the RPM's the lower the Gas Mileage.
SKperformance
sorry i said it wrong it increase gas usuage reducing milage
VBdenny
I'll attribute it to a ..... spelling error heh heh
sebastor
.....it also opens up fuel injectors to full spray instead of economical on normal. You have more hp on ECT then on normal
VMF
never heard about that
CanadaCraig
I notice quite a difference when the ECT 'power' thing is ON. Not only does it hold each gear a little longer - but downshifts are noticeably quicker. I often switch to 'power' whenever I'm feeling ... um.... somewhat aggressive!! As for it increasing horsepower - well - yes and no. It doesn't actually increase horsepower - but because it holds each gear a little longer - each shift occurs when the engine it revving more - therefore producing more horsepower. [if that makes sense] Of course - if you 'floor it' - then it doesn't really matter what 'mode' you're in - the transmission will upshift at or very near the readline. Craig!! :)

SKperformance
the ect does nothing in regard to fuel injection duration. your hp is the same you are just held in the torque band of the engine more.
VMF
what it really does is it turns off 4th gear and makes switching RPM limits higher. eg if in regular mode it was at 2k rpms then with this feature on it will be 3k. but what i noticed that on some cars it disables 4th gear and on some dont. so it means that on some cars it works just like regular overdrive button and on some like a swithcing RPM designer
91ls400
In my 91 LS the power mode only makes my shifts rougher. I don't even bother using the power mode, if i push the button on the floor (if I floor it) it is just as powerful regardless of the mode.
