wsemple Posted April 27, 2007 Share Posted April 27, 2007 I have a 2004 SC 430, and recently replaced the Dunlop run flats with non run-flat Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position 245/40ZR-18 tires from The Tire Rack. I also went on eBay, ordered and installed the spare. This mesage is short and to the point: Run as fast as you can to your nearest computer, dial up the Tire Rack, order these tires and install them. Don't ask any questions. Just do it. Tire Rack sends to local tire installers, but be careful that they are ware of the size of the tire sensor so they don't break one. I was also frustrated with the performance of my car, the horrible tire noise, and a lack of the glidding elegance I would expect from a car of this quality. I also read the Consumer Reports review, and while I was initially offended, wound up agreeing with them. It's all in the tires. I am an experienced driver, with almost 1,000,000 miles of road time. The difference in performance is night and day. No longer. These are the best tires I have ever owned. They are extremely quiet; the road is 100% more comfortable; and I finally feel I am in a Lexus. Cornering and wet pavement performance have been substantially improved, and while I haven't tried 'em in the snow, reports are they do very well. Belle Posted May 2, 2007 Share Posted May 2, 2007 Have to agree, run flats are a total mismatch for this car. I bought BFG T/A's ....much cheaper than Michelin Pilots and they seem fine. Sound like the Bridgstones are a good choice too Regarding the wheels on an 02 you can look for center cap replacements from a later model ie. 04 05 ?? that have a spoke design rather than that ugly large dinner plate that came on 02's . There may also be an aftermarket that works for you. When you remove the centercap, the wheel actually has a good spoke design, but it is covered up by that big plate. If you want chrome, you will have to replace it all Another tip, if you decide to get a spare tire, look for an Acura 17" compact spare. I think it comes from a TL and is an alloy wheel. It fits perfectly and can be purchased for a lot less than going to Lexus for the tire and kit. Do a search of other posts to find the year, make model and tire size for the Acura. I found one for $150 including shipping from the east coast to the west coast and only use it if I'm driving outside of an urbanized area where a tow might be difficult Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
