  1. My 2002 SC430 sometines acts like the brake is on when I put it in Drive. It backs up fine in Reverse and coasts freely in Neutral, but when I put in Drive(regular) it feels like the parking brake is on. The brake is not on and the regular brakes are not stuck. If I step on the gas, it goes, but seems to have considerable resistance until it gets rolling , then it runs fine. this only happens occasionally. Is there a brake on the transmission ? When it acts like this it doesn't make any noises, so I don't have a clue what is causing this situation Has anyone had this happen? What is the cause and how do I fix it ?? Thanks, Belle
  2. Open the trunk Open the navigation door Remove the old disc Install the new one Start the car and don't turn it off until the program completes loading It's that easy
  3. Have to agree, run flats are a total mismatch for this car. I bought BFG T/A's ....much cheaper than Michelin Pilots and they seem fine. Sound like the Bridgstones are a good choice too Regarding the wheels on an 02 you can look for center cap replacements from a later model ie. 04 05 ?? that have a spoke design rather than that ugly large dinner plate that came on 02's . There may also be an aftermarket that works for you. When you remove the centercap, the wheel actually has a good spoke design, but it is covered up by that big plate. If you want chrome, you will have to replace it all Another tip, if you decide to get a spare tire, look for an Acura 17" compact spare. I think it comes from a TL and is an alloy wheel. It fits perfectly and can be purchased for a lot less than going to Lexus for the tire and kit. Do a search of other posts to find the year, make model and tire size for the Acura. I found one for $150 including shipping from the east coast to the west coast and only use it if I'm driving outside of an urbanized area where a tow might be difficult
  4. Last weekend I unbolted my calipers to paint them and it looks like theres no secret tools needed just standard stuff. However if you have tire sensors you must put the correct tire on where it came off since all four sensors are different. theazz If you have done brakes on another car at home, you can do these. I would suggest you get an inexpensive service manual on a CD , try E-bay, that has a blowup sketch of the clips and springs. They are a little more complicated than other cars. The backs are completely different from the fronts As a suggestion, you might want to think about replacing the stock rotors and pads with aftermarket cross drilled rotors and ceramic pads. The improved braking is very noticable. You don't need to spend big bucks for the Italian rotors, the name starts with a B_______, the knock-offs from China work fine, just match them up with a good quality ceramic pad
  5. Hi Rich: I did buy the mast assembly, but when I disconnected the antenna, the plastic coil part is separated from the antenna. Don't I need to retrieve the coiled plastic from the motor first? If the plastic gear coil is broken, you will need to access the motor to remove the broken portion before installing a new mast. Here is a link to the instructions: http://www.antennamastsrus.com/instructions.htm The original question still remains, How do you access the motor?? PS I found the replacement mast on E-bay for about $18 but haven't installed it yet Can anyone offer any advise about removing and replacing the trunk panels to access the motor????? Thanks, but yes, the original question, how do you access the motor??? OK I did the deed. Accessing the motor is not easy. You will end up taking out most of the trunk panels to remove the right side panel. You will need a star shaped dirver bit to remove the screw under the bumper stop for the trunk lid. This piece is set with lock tight so it may be a little tuff to remove( work it in and out) and you will need to lock tight it back when you are done. Other tools are 10 mm wrenches and screw drivers. You need to remove the lower corner panels, the tool kit and tire well ( black plasic), the bottom pannel and loosen the front and back to remove the side panel. You also have to remove the plactic molded corner in the upper right corner of the trunk to set the side panel out. NOTE: this piece catches water off the back window and has a drain hose connected to carry rain water through the trunk and out of the car....don't forget to reconnect this in the replacement phase, our you will have to do it all over again. There is also a drain hose on the motor that needs to be recommected The motor and antenna replacement are pretty straight foward,.. just follow the instructions in the link in my previous post. Three tips: 1. Digital photo each step in the panel removal process so you have a reference of the order when you reinstall 2. Unplug the motor and remove it completely from the car when you take it apart to get out the old nylon gear coil ,and , 3. Don't forget to reconnect the drain hoses for the trunk and the motor Set aside time with plenty of light to do this job. I started near sunset thinking it would go pretty fast and ended up well after dark with my wife holding a big flashlight Hope this helps

  7. Boys, If your not too proud ,...you can get a full synthetic oil change and filter at any Walmart for about $45 They will check all the fluids ,the air pressure in the tires, the air filter and vacume the car too. The oil filter is available because it also used on a Toyota. My theory is that it's better to have a superior lubricant ...Mobil1 or Castrol Full Synthetic and change it every 10,000 miles rather than using coventional oil for only 3,000 to 5,000 miles . I know your thinking they will cut a corner like not using the correct oil, however I have watched then and they come into the store and get the quart bottles off the shelf. Ask them to save the half quart left over because the filter won't take a full quart, and they will put the half bottle in a clean plastic bag. If you need more than oil srevice, then by all means go to the dealer or a specialist for such things as tires or alignment , but if it's just oil service there is nothing wrong with Walmart . I would use them for my BMW ,but they don't carry the cartride type filter. Hey it's just a car !! :)
  8. Just purchased a '02 SC 430 and replaced the runflats with a traditional set of tires --- Huge improvement in ride, noise straightline tracking and handaling but I still have a slight steering wheel shimmy when braking between 30 to 20 mph. It's not much, but I really don't expext to have any such feel on this vehicle. From reading here I'm guessing warpped front rotars are the cause ? The pads are down to the last 25 percent so I'm going to have to replace them soon anyway and was wondering what anyone might recommend for replacement rotors and pads . A search did not reveal any talk about brakes on an SC 430, but I assume there must be some experience out there to share If I'm going to jack up the car and get dirty, I'm going to do all the rotors and pads at once. The car is not driven hard, so is it worth it to replace OEM with crossed drilled rotors and a good quality pad that matches up with an aftermarket rotors??, or just stay with replacement rotors and pads ?? Thanks in advance for you help
