Flitt
Hi everyone...I am a new '07 RX400H owner so far I really love it! I do have a question about the break in period of new cars generally and the 400h specifically: How long is the break in period of time (500 miles?) and how should the car be driven differently during this period of time? Thanks for any information you can share.
RX400h
For 1000 miles (except where noted) observe the following suggestions: Avoid full throttle acceleration. Avoid racing the hybrid system. (The explaination of this is up for debate!) Avoid hard stops the first 200 miles. No trailor-towing the first 500 miles. Overall, these are very reasonable requests, I'd say. Dave

denslexusgx470
they must have changed the trailer towing suggestion. i could have sworn it was something like over a 1k miles before u can tow with a new car. :P
bikeandsail
The only thing I debate is the no full throttle. I made sure I varried speed and did do some full throttle accelerations during the first 500 miles. If your too gentle there is a chance the rings won't set. I also towed at almost exactly 500 miles. Car now has 36,000 miles and oil usage is zero so at least I did set the rings. Ron
SW03ES
In modern cars this is less of a concern, the tight tolerances in an engine like the one in an RX400h make concerns about "setting the rings" a thing of the past.
